These cars weighed 2300 lbs new and a small block chevy fits like it was designed to be installed and it is so easy to work on, at 1/10 of a second for each 100lbs savings in the quarter mile, you will whip that modern muscle car that weighs 3500 lbs plus easily! car only picks up a few hundred pounds with the v8 conversion and maintains its near even front to rear weight ratio. This is a perfect example of a car that overwhelmed the last restorer, I bought it as a near perfect shell and installed a crate engine and rebuilt transmission. It is a Jags That Run 350/7004r conversion which means engine is set back much farther than other conversions using a new crate code r 96-99 truck 4 bolt vortec, roller cam, 9.4cr upgraded and ported vortec heads with big mutha thumpr roller cam, GMPP single plane, Quick fuel Holley 750 carb, comp roller rockers and compatable springs, HEI, 7qt oil pan, gm gear reduction starter, custom heavy duty driveshaft,15 gal fuel cell under floor, headers and 2.25 dual exh with full size hooker turbo mufflers, maybe 7,500 miles on setup and trouble free. Beast 700r4 rebuilt and hp 2500 stall converter using a late model Firebird shifter that fits console nicely. upgraded R200 rear end and shafts from a 78 280z. '95 Toyota 4 runner front calipers.280 springs all around. original 4 speed car if you want to change and still has pedal. Mostly rust free car, I replaced the lower front of both quarters in front of rear tires [all rust there regardless of how nice] and took all other sheet metal to bare metal, sprayed awl grip epoxy primer and forest green paint, installed new windshield and back glass gaskets, windshield in good condition, floor pans great and sound deadener installed, heavy steel welded in roll bar with seat back support and extra room, optima red battery in rear. dash cap, seats ok with no tears, needs carpet and door weatherstrips. This car was my daily driver for 2 years, very comfortable car, very fast and agile, always runs cool even in Houston, has cold a/c and is very reliable. All gauges work except amp and clock, no horn, origional a/c and heat setup boxed up for storage. New t/a radials on back. I have many spare parts including wheels and suspension parts that go with car also. Blue clear Texas title and historic license plates so nothing on windshield, all lights and signals work. Car really runs Great! Drive it home! R200 pic is not of this particular car but a representation of the strength of rear end. It's only a matter of time till these cars skyrocket in value, own one now! I have never raced this car on a track and do not know how fast it is but have owned many muscle cars including a 67 and 77 Vette, 69 Z28 and 69 SS Camaro, 70 GS455Stage1 and a 69 Judge RAIII, this car is definitely the fastest and handles the best. Fiat contemplating sub-brand to compete with Dacia, Datsun
Tue, 05 Feb 2013You can add Fiat to the admittedly short list of automakers considering a low-cost brand to rival Dacia. The inexpensive Eastern European brand from Renault-Nissan has performed on the balance sheet like a premium model line, and the money the alliance is taking off the table is encouraging other players to deal themselves in. Pretty soon Nissan's Datsun sub-brand will join the Dacia party, going on sale in Russia, Indonesia and India and will claim even more rubles, rupiahs and rupees for the parent company. Volkswagen recently said it will make a decision this year on a budget line for the Chinese market. With the euthanasia of Lancia and plans to move the Fiat brand upmarket, company CEO Sergio Marchionne wonders aloud to Automotive News Europe whether there could be room for a new budget brand underneath Fiat.
We're told that the initiative has been in the idea box for five years and even moved to the stage of name considerations, like Innocenti, but worries about profit kept it from realization. If such a range were to be developed, Marchionne says it couldn't be built in Italy and stay within budget, and the company is "analyzing its manufacturing capacity outside of Europe to see if a low-cost brand is viable."
Meet the man who took a year sabbatical to drive his 1967 Datsun Fairlady Roadster
Tue, 28 Jan 2014A quiet drive in the country can be the most relaxing thing in the world. What if it didn't have to end, and you could keep driving for a week, a month or even a whole year? That's what Scott Fisher is doing by taking a one-year sabbatical from work and driving his 1967 Datsun Fairlady Roadster around North America.
"I had owned a manufacturing business in Las Vegas for 16 years. I knew I needed to kinda' get out, and unwind, and get my mojo back," said Fisher.
Fisher's trip has covered over 30,000 miles through 44 states and 7 Canadian Provinces, and it is not over yet. He left from his home in Las Vegas, NV, last spring and drove to the Pacific. From there, he drove up the coast to the Canadian border and aimed the car for the Atlantic. He just posted on his blog about visiting the Nissan headquarters and museum in Franklin, TN, and his next stops are Mississippi and New Orleans, LA.
Datsun to unveil second model later this month
Sun, 08 Sep 2013Datsun, Nissan's new sub-brand for emerging markets, has announced plans to unveil its second model. Its first, the Go, was unveiled almost two months ago, and promised affordable, connected motoring for five in a handsome hatchback body. Datsun is following that up with a pair of new models for Indonesia.
The first of these two new vehicles will be shown on September 17 in Jakarta, eschewing the typical auto show debut. It's targeted at so-called "risers," the nickname for a group of highly aspirational customers in the Indonesian market. Datsun developed it locally with help from Nissan, and it'll cost under 100 million Indonesian rupiah (about $8,900 at today's rates).
