Up for bid is a 1977 Datsun 280z with 94,376 original miles on it. I bought this car about a year ago with the intentions of restoring it but i just have to many other projects so its time to let it go. First of all this car has zero rust underneath. No rust on the floorpans, frame rails etc. I am not sure if its original or not but it still has undercoating from front to rear. There are a few places where it is pealing off and you can see the shiny silver paint underneath. By the way silver was the original color. If you know anything about these cars you will know that it is a rare thing to find one without some sort of rot underneath. As for the body there were a few rusty spots but that has been cut out and replaced with the exception of the rear hatch lip.  It has been cut out but still needs a patch welded in. The interior is in decent shape. It could use carpet as it is faded in spots but is still very usable. The drivers seat has a few small tears in the corner but not bad at all and the passenger seat is fine. The door panels and headliner look brand new with no issues at all. The center console is broke by the radio but all the pieces are there so it could be fixed. The dash does have a few small cracks. As for the engine it runs but needs a timing chain. When i first got the car I pulled the gas tank and cleaned it before trying to start it. Once re-installed the car would crank over but was dragging. I bought and installed a new starter and it helped but was still dragging a little. I was able to play with the timing and get it started but was running rough. I pulled the valve cover and was able to see there was a lot of slop in the timing chain. I guess it could just be a guide or tensioner but i would go ahead and replace the timing chain as well. I was able to drive it around the yard and the transmission went right into gear and the rearend felt good and tight. 1 wheel cylinder has been removed and rebuilt as it was leaking but still needs to be re-installed. The car has the factory mag wheels on it that are in good shape just need a good cleaning. The tires have good tread but have dry rot from sitting. The front and rear bumpers have been removed but i still have them if interested. It wouldnt take much to get this car on the road and you would have a very sharp cruiser. I have tried to give as much info as possible about this car but if you have any questions I havent answered feel free to ask. The buyer assumes all responsability for pick up and/or shipping.

Datsun's lackluster initial sales fall below Tata Nano

Wed, 15 Oct 2014

When Tata introduced the Nano back in 2008, everyone was amazed at how cheap it was. They called it a game changer, but no game was changed. In fact, it took Tata five years to sell the 250,000 units it had the capacity to build in a single year. As it turns out, even buyers in what economists call "developing markets" like India aren't necessarily interested in buying an ultra-cheap automobile. And now it appears that Nissan may be falling into the same trap.
A little over a year ago, Nissan revived its old moniker Datsun to serve as a budget brand - similar to what ally Renault did with Dacia. Its lineup (consisting of models like the Go hatchback, Go+ minivan, On-Do sedan and Mi-Do hatch) is largely based on old architecture, packaged with little more than basic equipment and sold at rock-bottom prices. But Bloomberg reports that, even in the brand's core markets like India and Indonesia, the new Datsuns haven't been selling.
According to local industry figures, Datsun has sold fewer than 10,000 units of its $5,100 Go hatchbacks in India since its introduction back in March. Maruti Suzuki, by comparison, sells twice that many of its similarly priced Alto hatchbacks every month. In fact, after peaking in April, Datsun only sold 607 units in India this past July, dipping 77 percent to drop below even the number of Nanos which Tata sold that month.

37K miles in a 1967 Datsun Roadster

Tue, 11 Mar 2014

When we think of comfy, long-distance road cars, there are a few obvious choices. A Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Bentley Continental GT or, assuming fuel efficiency isn't paramount, a Range Rover are all good options for a road trip. But what if that road trip was 37,000 miles? Maybe something more reliable but still comfortable, then, like a Honda Accord. What about a 1967 Datsun Roadster?
As insane as it sounds, Scott Fisher is doing just that, running a Datsun 1600 Roadster across North America and racking up 13,500 miles in his first three months on the road. His total journey will see him pile over 37,000 miles on his red convertible. The car is lightly modified, but most of the work is for the sake of reliability and comfort, with a five-speed manual 'box, an upgraded radiator and electronic ignition.
Fisher's trip hasn't been all smooth, with a few typical bits of trouble. He also ran into some deer in Utah, quite literally, clipping one of the animals, which delivered quite a bit of damage to the passenger's front fender (hence the rear three-quarter view in our lead shot). Still, the car seems to be holding up well, as shown in this latest video from Petrolicious.

Subaru Legacy pitted against Roadkill project cars

Fri, 05 Sep 2014

There's an evergreen debate among auto enthusiasts about whether they would prefer to have the latest and greatest car of today or a certified classic from yesteryear. What if you had to further define that, though, and the choice was between a brand new 2015 Subaru Legacy or a turbocharged Datsun 240Z with a hatch that wouldn't close? Roadkill aimed to find out that and more in one of its best videos to date.
According to the hosts, Subaru came to them, handed over some money and challenged Roadkill's project cars against its latest Legacy. The result is every bit as good (or better) than any automotive-themed show you could find on television.
Things start simple with a figure-eight race in a rodeo arena with the Subaru taking on Roadkill's 1968 Ford Ranchero, originally built for ice racing. From there the Legacy races a 1968 Dodge Charger with no windows around and off-road rally stage. Finally, the Subie goes head-to-head against the Rotsun, the aforementioned turbocharged 240Z, through an abandoned neighborhood. Plus, there's a bonus drag race challenging them all.
