I started going through this to make it a show car, but still use as a daily driver. The 4 speed tranny was swapped for a 5 speed manual out of a 280ZX and the motor was torn down, inspected, and refreshed with new rings, and gasket set. The flat top carbs were replaced with round top SU carbs. New Tokico struts and springs, along with polyurethane bushings throughout the suspension, and the Z handles great. The Toyota four piston calipers with 300 ZX rotors up front, and 280ZX disc brakes in back, stop the car with no problems. The brake booster has started making a hissing noise, so it will need replaced. Also, the clutch has started slipping at high speed, as in passing or pulling a hill. the engine bay was painted while the engine was out, and it is red instead of the original Kelly green. The car needs paint, carpet, dash pad, to be complete. And i would change the gaskets out on all door, hatch, and glass. New wheels and tires would make this really sharp. The floors are solid. the rockers and wheel wells look great. There is some rust in the rear hatch. Pictures show the damage. I am the third owner of this Z. I found that the Datsun roadsters were much more suited for me, and lost interest in finishing this car. The motor starts right up, and runs smooth. A Magna Flo exhaust gives it a nice growl, but not too loud. There is also a headlight relay set up to run higher wattage headlights without harming the headlight switch or wiring. I can provide a video of the engine running if you would like to hear it. Please email me for that and I will be glad to send it. I have receipts for all parts and work and will furnish them to the buyer. The tach does not work, but engine temp, and oil pressure gauge does, and all is good with that. The seats will need to be recovered also.
With a 67 1600 Datsun convertible and a 1967 Nissan Patrol, the wife says something must go, and i have set the reserve for HALF of what i have invested in this car. Someone who can take this and finish it will have a really nice car and most of the mods are done, so you are way ahead and getting it priced right. good luck and please email me with any questions. A $500 pay pal deposit must be made within 24 hours of auction close. The balance must be paid within two weeks. If paying by check it must clear my bank before title and car can be picked up. I will be happy to work with the shipper, but buyer is responsible to arrange and pay all shipping fees. The car can be stored here for up to two months to give you time to arrange shipping. |

This father and son duo terrorize the UK countryside in Datsun 240Z pair
Wed, 12 Nov 2014The Datsun 240Z got a lot of things right when it was introduced, with handsome styling, strong performance and a reasonably affordable price. And while the coupes grew a strong fan base in the US, they remained quite a rarity in the UK. Decades later, a father and son in England have latched onto the car and bonded over their shared love for two completely opposite takes on this Japanese GT
There's already quite a collection of exotics in Mel Streek's garage, and his rat rod 240Z, which he calls the Ratsun, definitely doesn't fit with the rest. On the outside, the Datsun looks ready to fall apart, but it's mechanically perfect underneath. Alternatively, Mel's son, Ollie, has a completely different take for his Z with its perfect, shining paint.
Both Zs sound amazing, though. They have a mechanical, somewhat course exhaust note that's intoxicating to hear. You can definitely tell there's some work going on under the hood. Check out this video from Petrolicious for a father and son who both find something to love in these classic Japanese coupes.
First new Datsun in decade sketched, set for Indian reveal
Mon, 01 Jul 2013Nissan's Datsun nameplate revival will begin with two models bound for the Indian market. Nissan has released sketches of a five-door hatchback based on the Micra (codenamed K2) and a top-down view of a hood that could potentially be from a sedan.
The company's press release says all will be revealed on July 15 in New Delhi, India. The Datsun lineup will be first offered in 2014 to that country's ride-deprived residents as well as Indonesia and Russia. Later in 2014, South Africa will join the list.
We've heard Nissan plans for Datsuns to share platforms with company-owned Lada. In January, we heard the projected price tag could be around $3,000 USD to compete with Chinese imports. The official press release (which can be read in full below) says nothing about either of these reports, however.
