No serious rust other then minor on passenger door. All known rust spots are documented in the pictures.

FULL SET OF PICS HERE - I did my best to document all areas where these cars have issues.  The paint is rough, but the body is very solid. I can provide more pics if asked.

I purchased it 8 years ago to turn into a track toy, life happened I got an e46m3 and this fell by the wayside. I am losing my storage for it and I am selling it.

No title, last registered in CA 7 years ago, so it might be best to go out of state. This does not have a salvage title as listed

The only known history on the car is that I purchased it from a kid 8 years ago who bought it from a friends Dad who had started to restore it. As you can see from the pictures the engine bay was fully restored and no rust in the battery box or firewall area. The engine build is fairly special but I am not sure how special, please read notes below.

Odo indicates just under 100k... but I have no idea! I'm not even sure if it works at this point. But I am pretty sure the tach worked last time I ran it.

Engine
-l28 2.8 liter block
-e31 head early production and racing heads hard to come by, No really these are very rare at this point, and might be worth more then the car.
-Crane fireball ignition
?Might be a 3.2 liter using a 81 diesel Maxima crank, I have not checked the stroke or volume. I would also assume that the valves are from a later 280 or 280 turbo as this would have been common on that head 10 years ago when the engine was built. Someone put time into the engine bay restoration, but alas who really knows.

Body
-Really good actually which is why I purchased it. No rust in any of the common areas, and I attempted to document any rust spots on the car. Wheel arches, back deck area and engine bay are clear, as well as the window areas
-Hood will latch once adjusted slightly (see pics)
-Doors need someone with more skills then me to align perfectly, but they close flush. I tried for 1 hour once.. then got beer... I was in an IBA exploration phase at the time and those are somewhat strong.
-There is a crappy sunroof installed at some point... But no leaks
-Was originally bronze, but now comes in a rare Smurf blue, in the pics you can see what it looks like once wiped clean.
-Window glass is all as perfect as can be, no pits scratches or cracks.

Running gear
-It has a 4 speed, not sure why it got the engine swap and not the trans swap to a 5 speed, but my feelings is with the updated specs of the engine the wider gear ratios are faster then if it had a narrower 5 speed. Of course this is wishfull thinking.. maybe...
- no overheating issues in CA traffic in the summer
- Brakes where sorted with a new master cylinder and stainless lines before going into storage
-rearend was re-built before going into storage
-clutch and gearbox had no issues before going into storage
-It has the "good" twin SU's

-All tires hold air, but I would replace them

Interior
- dash is well a 240 dash.... it could be capped or you can attempt to source a new one, but if your looking for a 240 then you know the dash issue, and why are you even asking?
-Needs door cards.... You can source the door parts but the cards you will have to make last time I checked
-seats are original... so yeah they can be rebuilt really easily.
-non oem carpet kit with carpet on trans tunnel. I like the diamond pattern personally on the OEM/oem like kits.

Fun things about the car!
-It uses a bike lock key to start and open the doors and trunk!
-The wheel studs look scary based on the one I can see, and I forgot what they looked like when I had it apart a few years ago when I was still a child and ignored basic safety
-Lame sunroof
- No black 911 hiding in the background, but Yes those are 2 Rover 3500S's and they could be for sale...
-horrible bad kill switch was installed, I could remove it, but lets have someone else have that fun.
-The lighting all worked, but it had an intermittant turn signal/brake light stutter common to the cars, and cleaning the switches can/should fix it.

Included
- My hopes you have fun with this car.
-Full laminated wiring diagram!
-Spare fuse box cover... kinda hard to find!
- Side emblems for the rear pillar will be thrown in for free!
-Rubber hood spacers! Not sure why I got them off of ebay 8 years ago but I have some!
-I will include the space age tool used to secure the rear decklid since it has a blown gas shock. (locking pliers see pic)
-I will also include the bolt in roll bar that is most likely more dangerous with it installed.
-if asked for with 100 bucks more I will throw in the Chilton and Hayes manuals for the car, as well as 3 California Bills' books. How to rebuild your engine, how to modify your engine, and how to restore your Z car

Roadkill pits every project car against each other

Sat, 22 Feb 2014

The guys behind Motor Trend's monthly Roadkill series have collected nine of their favorite project cars from their videos and pitted them against each other in a battle royale to determine a winner. It's 44 minutes long, but it's completely worth the investment of time.
The cars run the gamut from a 1973 Chevrolet Ramp Truck, a 1975 AMC Pacer and a legitimately impressive 1967 Chevy Camaro, and they are pitted against each other to see which is the fastest around an autocross course. The drivers include Roadkill's two hosts and Motor Trend's Johnny Lieberman and Carlos Lago. It's reminiscent of the best episodes of Top Gear and worth a watch.
So it's the weekend - the perfect time to relax. Grab your preferred beverage, get comfortable and enjoy 44 minutes of some seriously ratty but utterly cool project cars as they are throttled within an inch of their lives (or past it). Scroll down to check out the video.

Subaru Legacy pitted against Roadkill project cars

Fri, 05 Sep 2014

There's an evergreen debate among auto enthusiasts about whether they would prefer to have the latest and greatest car of today or a certified classic from yesteryear. What if you had to further define that, though, and the choice was between a brand new 2015 Subaru Legacy or a turbocharged Datsun 240Z with a hatch that wouldn't close? Roadkill aimed to find out that and more in one of its best videos to date.
According to the hosts, Subaru came to them, handed over some money and challenged Roadkill's project cars against its latest Legacy. The result is every bit as good (or better) than any automotive-themed show you could find on television.
Things start simple with a figure-eight race in a rodeo arena with the Subaru taking on Roadkill's 1968 Ford Ranchero, originally built for ice racing. From there the Legacy races a 1968 Dodge Charger with no windows around and off-road rally stage. Finally, the Subie goes head-to-head against the Rotsun, the aforementioned turbocharged 240Z, through an abandoned neighborhood. Plus, there's a bonus drag race challenging them all.

Datsun previews new budget sedan for Russia [w/video]

Thu, 13 Mar 2014

Nobody does cars on the cheap quite like the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The former part of the equation already has its Dacia brand of cost-effective, no-frills vehicles that have become a favorite of Top Gear co-host James May, and last summer, the latter revived its Datsun nameplate for a budget brand of its own.
The reborn Datsun launched in India this past July with its Go hatchback, returned in September with the Go+ minivan and revealed the Redi-Go concept just last month. And now it's given us our first look at an upcoming budget sedan developed specifically for the Russian market.
The as-yet unnamed vehicle (which we'll bet will incorporate the word "go" into its nameplate somehow) is set to debut on April 4, where it will launch the Datsun brand in Russia. Few details are available at this point, but the low-cost sedan was designed in Japan to offer Russian drivers "an engaging driving experience, peace of mind ownership and accessibility at the right and transparent price, with a competitive Total Cost of Ownership."
