Why I am selling:

I purchased this race car last July 2012. I am selling simply because I do not have enough time to drive the car anymore, and after a few months of owning it, I am way too busy to trailer the car back and forth to the track (I don't own a trailer and must rent). I am moving towards something simpler, something I can drive to the track comfortably and not have to trailer. The car has no problems and is ready to race. Early Z race cars are becoming more and more rare, so don't miss this opportunity to own one! Unfortunately, the car DOES NOT come with a logbook. The logbook has been lost, however I do have a roll-bar number that can help reissue its logbook through the Oregon SCCA. I do have the historians contact information, so it is just up to the new owner to track down the documents, I just haven't had the time. The car has some good history behind it, which I have researched over the course of the last year. I have spoken to all previous owners of the car. One rarity that this car luckily possesses is that it is REGISTERED and has a CLEAN TITLE with the California DMV. I own the car outright. However, please keep in mind this is a race car, and not for driving on the road. I had it registered in order to allow the car to be moved from storage to my house before and after track days. 

What is the condition:

First and foremost, this is indeed a former ITS racecar. If you know anything about IT cars you know they were raced HARD. Any body damage would be cleaned up as soon as possible for the very next race, so there is a bit of bondo, but the car is not covered in it. Now that we got that out of the way, the body on this 240Z is pretty good. The biggest damage to the body is an indented driver-side skirt (pictured), which is hollow from the start. This does not affect the straightness of the chassis at all or the way it drives. It is just a a small boo boo (it gives it spunk!!). The paint is old, but is a good 15 footer. The car's original race decals still are there, and you can faintly see the reminiscence of old stickers on the roof, hood, and quarter panels (Dando's Performance).

Drivetrain/Body: This Z car has a gem of a drivetrain. It has a Rebello 2.4L Race Motor, balanced and blueprinted. 190 compression and between 0 and 1% leakdown in all cylinders. Oil pressure is 60+psi, cam and rockers are in great shape, race clutch is solid. It has a 4 speed transmission with a 4:10 rear end to meet class rules. Headers on it with 3 into 2 into 1 at the rear end, not quite sure of the brand. The muffler points to the left, which allows for it to meet the Laguna Seca 92dB limit. NO ENGINE LEAKS WHATSOEVER. All fluids are Redline.The body is very straight. In regards to rust, it has been taken care of. You will see no orange/brown on this car, with exception to a few minor rust proofed areas from the past. Nothing is spreading. The hatch, doglegs, battery tray, etc. are all good. When I purchased the car, I installed a brand new windshield, new Crow belts, repacked all wheel bearings, checked all shocks, brakes etc. When I purchased the car, the previous owner had nut and bolted the entire car, reset the suspension and scaled the car (measurements all accurate). For an extra $500, the car comes with a set of Panasport wheels 15x8 w/ 2011 date stamped NT-01's or if you have your own wheels/tires, I have a set of Enkei 92's with bald tires to get the car to its new home. As far as quickness, the previous owner took the car to Willow Springs Raceway and ran a 1:37 without really pushing the car. I have run it at Laguna Seca and Infineon Raceway, unfortunately untimed due to it being coincidently slippery all three track days!


History:

This Z car was converted to racecar status by Brian Ohlemeier, who currently resides in the State of Washington as a semi-professional bicyclist. The vehicle was completed in 1989, when the roll-bar number was registered (verified through Oregon SCCA Historian) and raced for the better part of 12 years in SCCA's ITS class all over the West Coast. It followed Brian Ohelmeier wherever he moved and the vehicle placed top five and set lap records at multiple race events such as the Rose Cup and Pacific Coast Championships. The vehicle competed at Pacific Raceways, Sears Point, Laguna Seca, and Thunderhill Raceway. A notable race that this car partook in was Thunderhill Raceway's first Harvest Moon Regional, setting a lap of 1:25.43 on September 30, 1995. I was also told that this car also holds one SCCA 1st place win at, now defunct, Crow's Landing. I mentioned earlier that the vehicle had several old decal remnants over the car. These decals, which left etches (probably can be polished out) in the paint show that the car was raced under Dando's Performance. Of course, they are now known as Dando's Automotive and are under different ownership, but they were heavily involved in racing back in the 80's. Andy Craig, I believe, was the old owner of Dando's and I am sure Ken, the current owner, can get ahold of him. I also recently spoke with Gary Cook, owner of the BRE certified replica car which raced at the Monterey Historics this year, about my car. Through some conversation, we believe that there is a high possibility that this is the sister car to his car. Dando's Performance had three cars raced under their name, and the old decals show that this car was one of them. Chris Zarros is a name that Gary Cook provided me. He mentioned Chris was the guy who built his car, and if not this car, Chris would definitely know who built it.

After the 90's the car rested on Mr. Ohlemeier's driveway for eight years until he sent it to the scrapyard after quitting racing. The vehicle was simply taking up too much space in his home. Luckily, Steve Ingersoll, a renowned SCCA ITA racer who had seen and competed against the car over the years, knew immediately what it was and purchased it on the spot from the tow man. Soon Steve came to realize that he had no desire to compete with the Z. As a result, he sold it along with a trailer to an Aussie gentleman and Kevin McDonald of Mac's Auto Performance in San Fernando, CA. Kevin McDonald, known for building outstanding BMW 2002 race cars, put it up for sale in December 2011 after having driven it a few times at the track. Kevin talked to me about passing Adam Carolla's famous BRE roadster with ease in this car.

Datsun's lackluster initial sales fall below Tata Nano

When Tata introduced the Nano back in 2008, everyone was amazed at how cheap it was. They called it a game changer, but no game was changed. In fact, it took Tata five years to sell the 250,000 units it had the capacity to build in a single year. As it turns out, even buyers in what economists call "developing markets" like India aren't necessarily interested in buying an ultra-cheap automobile. And now it appears that Nissan may be falling into the same trap.
A little over a year ago, Nissan revived its old moniker Datsun to serve as a budget brand - similar to what ally Renault did with Dacia. Its lineup (consisting of models like the Go hatchback, Go+ minivan, On-Do sedan and Mi-Do hatch) is largely based on old architecture, packaged with little more than basic equipment and sold at rock-bottom prices. But Bloomberg reports that, even in the brand's core markets like India and Indonesia, the new Datsuns haven't been selling.
According to local industry figures, Datsun has sold fewer than 10,000 units of its $5,100 Go hatchbacks in India since its introduction back in March. Maruti Suzuki, by comparison, sells twice that many of its similarly priced Alto hatchbacks every month. In fact, after peaking in April, Datsun only sold 607 units in India this past July, dipping 77 percent to drop below even the number of Nanos which Tata sold that month.

When Nissan revived the Datsun brand name, it essentially hit the "undo" button on the rebranding it undertook decades ago. But this time, the Datsun name is being used solely as a budget brand for developing markets. The reborn marque launched in India this past July with its Go hatchback, returned in September with the Go+ minivan and revealed the Redi-Go concept just last month. And now it's back again with the new On-Do sedan.
Launched in Moscow by CEO Carlos Ghosn, the On-Do was designed and engineered in Japan specifically for the Russian market - Nissan's fifth largest worldwide - where it will be built at the AvtoVaz plant in Togliatti. Decidedly budget-oriented, the Datsun On-Do is a four-door, five-seat econo-box measuring 172 inches long, 67 inches wide and 60 inches tall with an 18.7 cubic-foot trunk which Datsun describes as class-leading. Punctuating an otherwise bland shape is a large front grille and lighting front and rear that looks (and very well might be) bigger than the wheels.
Not that the Datsun On-Do needs a big contact patch to transfer power to the road: motivation is provided by a 1.6-liter engine with a grand total of - wait for it... wait a little longer - 87 horsepower. Which might strike you as a reasonable amount of muscle, considering the 400,000 rubles Datsun is getting for the On-Do (but consider that translates to about $11,300). That's a couple grand more than what Nissan gets for the Micra in that other giant northern country, or about the same amount it gets for the Versa in the US (which sells in Russia for 499k in rubles) - both of which are powered by what is in all likelihood the same 1.6-liter four but producing 109 hp. Of course Russia has different tax rates than the United States or Canada, but with such little power, the Datsun would fall into Russia's lowest tax bracket.

A quiet drive in the country can be the most relaxing thing in the world. What if it didn't have to end, and you could keep driving for a week, a month or even a whole year? That's what Scott Fisher is doing by taking a one-year sabbatical from work and driving his 1967 Datsun Fairlady Roadster around North America.
"I had owned a manufacturing business in Las Vegas for 16 years. I knew I needed to kinda' get out, and unwind, and get my mojo back," said Fisher.
Fisher's trip has covered over 30,000 miles through 44 states and 7 Canadian Provinces, and it is not over yet. He left from his home in Las Vegas, NV, last spring and drove to the Pacific. From there, he drove up the coast to the Canadian border and aimed the car for the Atlantic. He just posted on his blog about visiting the Nissan headquarters and museum in Franklin, TN, and his next stops are Mississippi and New Orleans, LA.
