1971 Datsun 240z

Clean and clear MO title in my name.  I beleive this car was manufactured in June of 1971.

This car was built by me and my step father as a project.  The car was first acquired by us in a package deal of
cars, and this car was just a shell of a car, with nice suspension, and a clean looking 280z engine in it.
I spent several (about 7 years) on this project.  I spent alot of time dealing with rust and using alot of POR15 on
the frame and interior and front wheel wells.  The car was painted in 2010, and I spent the winter of 2010, until may
of 2011 re-assembling the car.      In may of 2012 I had the car in the body shop again to repair a crack on the
bottom lip of the fiberglass front air dam.  I also had them fit a replacement panel on the hatch deck lid, and
repaint the hood which I was unsatisfied with, and blend in the doors....  basically, just shy of a total repaint.

The car is very well built.  I don’t really want to sell it, but I just bought an old building that I am working on
renovating as my studio and living space, so some toys need to go.  I put a lot of work, time and money into this
car and it draws looks and comments everywhere it goes.   I have a box full of extra parts, and a box full of
receipts and documents from the work.

Engine: I have not done anything to the motor, besides a tune up.  It has a 280z Engine with a 5 speed transmission.
It does have an upgraded MSA alternator.  Motor runs great, does not burn oil.

Carbs:  Carbs have been recently rebuilt, but could use a tune from someone who knows these carbs. It has the
round top SU carbs.  Has pod air filters on it currently.

Fuel system:  The gas tank was removed and professionally cleaned.  A new rubber fuel filler neck was installed.
New red line Holley electric fuel pump installed.  Manual choke works.

Brakes:   New front rotors, and rebuilt calipers with no squeel-ceramic brake pads.  Rear brakes have new
brake drums and brake cylinders. All new brake hardware, except the metal line under the frame.
New brake master cylinder.  Recently, the drivers side rear brake has developed a small leak, after sitting
                 for a while.

Lights:  New front and rear running lights. HID front headlights with the upgraded wiring harness from MSA.
2 Fog lights mounted in the front air dam, on a switch.  I do not have the interior dome light installed.
The lights in the dash work, but are dim.  New battery.

Wheels: Aluminum wheels are in good shape, no major dings, bends or gouges.  The tires are all new and matching.

Interior:  Vintage leather upholstered seats are in great shape. New front and rear carpets. New black diamond
interior vinyl. Headliner was done in black vinyl by an upholstery shop. Looks great.   The dash has some
cracks, but I will include a plastic dash cap from Black Dragon, which I have not installed because I was
going to have the door panels and dash upholstered to match the headliner.  Weather stripping is new.
New aircraft release style seat belts.  Car does not have sun visors installed currently, because of the
sunroof.  All of the plastic is in great shape.  New glove box installed.

Body:  The body has been professionally painted.  The rear of the car and the doors and hood were repainted and
blended in May of 2012, and they did a great job.  Both front fenders are new. A replacement panel was fitted
under the hatch where these cars usually rust out.  Looks clean and is well done.  There are no scratches or
dings.  The body and paint on this car is great.  Paint is a single stage silver Saab color.  Car was painted
apart.  Door jams are painted.   New locks in the doors.  New weatherstripping.  All major rust spots were taken
care of.  Floor boards are solid.  New rear wheel wells were fitted as well as the panels under the door.
A couple of years were spent on the body work of this car.  The front fender badges are new, the hood and
hatch emblems have been shaved, and the pillar badges are vintage, and not in show condition.   I used a
lot of  Dynamat sound deadening material on the interior of the car.  The dash console is in good shape.
Original ashtray is there.  Heater console face is in great shape, But i do not currently have the heater
hooked up completely as I was going to take the dash out again at some point to reupholster it and
get the dash lights bright again.   Front Air dam is an MSA Type III.

This 240z does feature an aftermarket sunroof.  The sunroof did open, but began sticking so I haven’t opened it.
There is a place in Kansas City that can install a new one for $599.

Suspension:  Car still has the standard shocks that were on it.  New tie bar ends have been installed.

Exhaust:  Car has a performance stainless coated exhaust header, and a new custom exhaust which was
installed by KC Brake & Muffler, and sounds great.

Please contact me with any questions.  Car is for sale locally, and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.  Car must be picked up in Kansas City. Buy is responsible for pick up or delivery arrangements and costs.  Non refundable $500 deposit due within 48 hours of the close of the auction.  Thanks!

Renault planning a Tata Nano rival. Again.

Wed, 28 Nov 2012

Four years ago, Renault confirmed that it would partner with India's Bajaj Auto to develop a rival to the Tata Nano. At the time, as everyone waited for the Tata Nano to arrive, you could have used a Richter scale to measure the tremors the executive suites of any automaker with an interest in the low end of emerging markets. Then the Nano, still the cheapest car in the world, didn't sell so well - at the end of last year its sales were just six percent of its most conservative projections - and everyone seemed content to let Tata spend the money to figure out if there really was a market for the cheapest car in the world.
Renault believes there is, kind of. Automotive News Europe reports that it will partner with Nissan to build two low-priced cars for emerging markets, one for €3,000 ($3,888 U.S.) and another for €5,000 ($6,400 U.S.). The price of the least expensive offering is nearly $1,400 more than a Nano, which costs $2,500, and that can't be considered a small sum in comparison. But one of the hindsight knocks on the Nano has been that even in emerging markets buyers don't want a car whose biggest lure is that it is cheap; they'd rather give their aspirations a bit more of a workout.
Renault's offerings are scheduled to hit the non-Western market in late 2014, which is coincidentally the same year that will see the return of the budget-minded and emerging-market-specific Datsun nameplate. They'll be built in Renault facilities in Chennai, India, with no mention made of Bajaj this time around.

Nissan IDx 'in the plan' for production, needs support from fans [w/poll]

Wed, 15 Jan 2014

If there's a trend in the auto industry we can firmly get behind, it's the small, light and affordable rear-drive coupe. The positive critical reception to the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ twins has encouraged other manufacturers to look at building their own rear drivers, and even a few to show actual concept cars based on the idea. The Chevrolet Code 130R from 2012 and more recently, the Nissan IDx twins that were first shown at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show both come to mind, as does the brand-new Kia GT4 Stinger Concept.
Nissan trotted out the IDx Nismo and the IDx Freeflow for another showing in Detroit and we'll admit to being totally smitten with both cars. Again. The duo draw inspiration from the iconic Datsun 510, a lightweight, affordable rear-driver that remains a cult favorite decades after production ended.
Now, a report from our friends at AutoWeek reveals that we may, possibly, hopefully see a production IDx, provided fans make a strong enough case for it. "It's in the plan," Nissan product boss Andy Palmer told AW. According to the report, Palmer said the IDx is "into the first sage of the development process. The next stage is project validation and then looking at the business case. It's no one's intent to waste millions of the company's money, so obviously we have a good feeling about this one."

Meet the man who took a year sabbatical to drive his 1967 Datsun Fairlady Roadster

Tue, 28 Jan 2014

A quiet drive in the country can be the most relaxing thing in the world. What if it didn't have to end, and you could keep driving for a week, a month or even a whole year? That's what Scott Fisher is doing by taking a one-year sabbatical from work and driving his 1967 Datsun Fairlady Roadster around North America.
"I had owned a manufacturing business in Las Vegas for 16 years. I knew I needed to kinda' get out, and unwind, and get my mojo back," said Fisher.
Fisher's trip has covered over 30,000 miles through 44 states and 7 Canadian Provinces, and it is not over yet. He left from his home in Las Vegas, NV, last spring and drove to the Pacific. From there, he drove up the coast to the Canadian border and aimed the car for the Atlantic. He just posted on his blog about visiting the Nissan headquarters and museum in Franklin, TN, and his next stops are Mississippi and New Orleans, LA.
