78k Chrysler 200 sedans recalled for stalling

Chrysler has been at the top of our list of recalls lately, and is showing little sign of dropping down. The latest campaign announced from Auburn Hills affects nearly 80,000 units over a problem that could see the vehicle suddenly stall or shift into neutral unexpectedly. According to the automaker's statement below, the issue primarily affects the 2015 Chrysler 200. However it indicates that unspecified "additional vehicles are also included in the campaign." Of the 77,834 units affected by the recall, the vast majority – nearly 70k – are in the United States. Another 7,115 are located in Canada, 848 in Mexico, and another 19 outside of North America. The problem stems from some electrical connectors that may have been damaged by the supplier during post-production validation tests. FCA stresses, however, that it is "unaware of any related injuries or accidents" resulting from this issue, and that the glitch may or may not be "accompanied by a dashboard warning-light illumination." Airbag function is reportedly unaffected. What the Chrysler 200 will probably look like in convertible form

Since 1996, Chrysler has offered a convertible version of its Sebring and 200. As this seems very unlikely to change, it's safe to assume that a new 200 Convertible is in the works following the unveiling of the radically redesigned sedan. What it will look like, though, remains an open question.
Traditionally, the only major styling differences between the Sebring/200 Convertible and the sedan were found above the beltline. It's likely a 2016 200 Convertible would follow a similar philosophy, especially considering the dashing good looks of the redesigned sedan.
Artist Theophilus Chin has a similar idea, as shown in a pair of renderings he's released. Using a few of the stock photos from the 200 Sedan's reveal, Chin has given us our first glimpse of what a 200 Convertible could looks like. It's sharp, retaining the good looks of the sedan. The windshield looks like it's been swept back further, and obviously, there are a pair of doors missing. Other than that, it's the same attractive car that debuted at Detroit.

All of us know that the small-block Chevrolet V8 was a masterpiece of engineering that made the high-performance overhead-valve V8 affordable to the masses, and that the Mercedes-Benz OM617 diesel is basically immortal, and that the Toyota R engine defined what it means for a vehicle to be considered Warlord Grade. The AMC straight-six. The Model T engine. The Volvo Redblock. Those engines get the respect they deserve. But what about the engines that we don't think much about, the ones that worked hard in their millions and somehow missed attaining legend status? The list of engines beloved by their aficionados but not thought of often by the rest of us goes on and on: the Renault Ventoux, Mitsubishi 4G1, MeMZ-968, and so on. But my vote goes to the Chrysler flathead straight-six. This engine was produced starting in 1929 and was still being made for stationary industrial use in the early 1970s. It powered just about every type of Chrysler vehicle made for decades, hauled supplies for all the major Allied armies in World War II, and was even developed into a five-bank, 30-cylinder tank engine. It was simple and reliable and outlived most of its competition, and you rarely hear much about it these days. What's your choice?
