2004 Chrysler Town & Country Lx Mini Passenger Van 4-door 3.3l on 2040-cars
Austin, Texas, United States
Do you part out cars for a living? Awesome! Congrats on having a super classy job. I'm about to make it that much classier.
This here vehicle for sale is a van. But not just any van, oh no sirree. This here van is a Chrysler Town AND Country. Two-thousand and four. This vans parents remember when there were no vans, and you had to drive uphill everyday in a wagon. A "station" wagon, with wood paneling. And no shoes. Think 1977 Ford Country Squire. I grew up in one. Take it from me, you don't want a wagon. You want a van. This van has it all, I tell you. Tires. Lightbulbs. Big lump of metal at the front that holds in the explosions and makes it go. All the bells and whistles. Seems fantastic, right? This van also has a secret. This van has been the victim of automobile abuse. Not at home, mind you. I've known this van for years, and I know better than to dare abuse it. There has been enough abuse already. No, the abuse I speak of came at the bumper of a Chevy. A Chevy that cared not for my van or common automotive decency. A Chevy that did a number on the driver side door. All the bits and pieces work*. Including the window regulator on the driver side, which kind of adds insult to injury seeing as there is no window to regulate. Lots and lots of miles on the drivetrain, but they were gentle miles. Low rpm long commute style miles. Bought new by my car whiz father and maintained scrupulously. Carts dogs around like a boss. Would cart kids as well, if kids weren't just the worst. Anyway. Buy this van, please. Part it out. Take the profits and go paint whatever town you call home red. Or blue. I prefer green myself, but it's all subjective. *Totally forgot. The radiator leaks. I have to pour around a gallon of water into it every two days or so. But you're parting it out and aluminum is aluminum, so not the end of the world. |

Say goodbye to the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200
Wed, Jan 27 2016Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne outlined an update to the company's five-year business plan Wednesday, and among the changes, the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 sedans will soon be phased out. The company's presentation to investors states that the "market shift from cars to trucks and UVs [utility vehicles is] now seen as permanent shift in demand," and FCA wants to respond as quickly as possible. Killing the 200 and Dart will allow FCA to build more Jeep and Ram models at the Sterling Heights, MI, and Belvidere, IL, plants where the sedans were produced. We already knew FCA was planning to shift 200 and Dart production to Mexico, to free up the Sterling Heights facility for Ram 1500 production, and the Belivdere site for Jeep Cherokee output. The Cherokee will move from its current home in Toledo, OH, to allow for increased Wrangler production. It's no shock that FCA wants to shift its focus to crossovers and trucks. In December 2015, for example, combined sales of the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 were 15,310. The Jeep Cherokee, which uses the same platform as the Dart and 200, outsold both models combined, with 24,049 sales. Both the Dart and 200 had troubles from the beginning. Marchionne recently blamed designers for the 200 not receiving a Consumer Reports 'recommended' rating, and the Dart was one of the lowest-scoring cars in a CR reliability study. NHTSA investigating Chrysler for airbags, ignition switches
Wed, 18 Jun 2014Chrysler is being targeted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in a pair of actions that focus on over 1.2 million Jeeps, minivans and crossovers.
The first is a "preliminary investigation" that focuses on an airbag issue afflicting the Jeep Commander built in model years 2006 and 2007 and Grand Cherokee from 2005 to 2006. In total, 700,000 vehicles could potentially be affected. It's not entirely clear what the airbag issue is, with The Detroit Free Press simply stating that the restraint systems in the affected Jeeps may be "faulty."
The other investigation is what's called a "recall query" and it covers a problem that General Motors should be familiar with. In this case, there could be a problem with the ignition switches of 525,000 vehicles, ranging from 2008 to 2010 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans, to the 2008 to 2010 Dodge Journey crossover. Again, it's not entirely clear what sort of behavior prompted the 32 complaints that NHTSA has received on these vehicles.
Minivan market not what it used to be, but margins make up for it
Thu, 05 Jun 2014
Residual values for last year's minivans are higher than they were in 2000.
Much like the station wagon was the shuttle of Baby Boomer generation, the minivan has been the primary means of transport for Generations X and Y. Just as the boomers abandoned the Country Squire, though, those kids that were toted around in Grand Caravans and Windstars are adults, and they certainly don't want to be seen in the cars their parents drove.
