1968 Chrysler Town And Country Wagon on 2040-cars

Year:1968 Mileage:100006
Location:

New Tazewell, Tennessee, United States

New Tazewell, Tennessee, United States

This is an original 1968 Chrysler Town and Country wagon.  It was purchased new on December 13, 1967, by Mr. Edward B. Robinson at Bill Binko Chrysler Plymouth in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Mr. Robinson paid $6,051.06. I have the original title, sales agreement, and dealer invoice. It has a 383ci engine.

It has the following options:

- vinyl split bench seat
- air conditioning
- power seat L 6-way (power driver seat)
- radio AM-FM
- power windows
- tailgate washer (yes it is a window washer for the tailgate window - rare
  option)
- luggage rack
- right head rest (passenger head rest)
- tinted glass
- left remote mirror
- door moldings
- deluxe lap belts
- undercoat
- 8.85x14 white side wall tires

It also has a reclining passenger seat.

I have the original hubcaps. However, at some point, someone changed out the original 14 inch wheels for 15 inch wheels.
It has the original jack in the spare tire compartment.

It is missing the driver’s side kick panel and the antenna.  I actually have the antenna and the base, but it has been broken.

The very end of the hood has some holes due to rust. I think it was dripped on over the years. These are the only holes in the car.  The rest of the body is solid with some minor areas of surface rust. The car was undercoated when new and the undercarriage is solid.

It runs and moves, but the brakes need to be bled before it can be driven.  The car will need some restoration work, but with a little tinkering you could have her ready for the local cruise-ins and car shows.  After than you can restore it while you drive it.

The interior is in original condition.  The seams have split on the bottom portion of the front seat (see photos). The rear seat and rear facing seat are in excellent condition.  The door panels and headliner are in great shape as well. The dash is free of cracks.

All of the glass is good and free of cracks or hazing.

Chrysler recalling nearly half a million vehicles with active head restraints

Thu, 04 Jul 2013

Chrysler has announced that it will recall roughly 490,000 vehicles around the globe due to a potential active head-restraint problem. The problem is being blamed on "potentially faulty microcontrollers" that may keep the vehicles' anti-whiplash active safety feature from working properly. Chrysler says it has no knowledge of any accidents or injuries related to the issue. Models covered under the recall include the 2011-2013 Chrysler Sebring, 200 (shown) and Dodge Avenger models, along with 2011-2013 Jeep Liberty and 2011-2012 Dodge Nitro SUVs.
Interestingly, the Pentastar notes that the faulty part came from an (unnamed) supplier who furnished the parts in the wake of Japan's 2011 earthquake and tsunami, natural disasters which decimated the world's supply of microcontrollers.
Chrysler says of those nearly half a million vehicles affected, around 442,000 of them reside in the US, with an additional 25,000 in Canada and 10,000 units in Mexico. A further 12,000 models were shipped beyond the NAFTA region. The Auburn Hills automaker will begin sending out recall notices shortly, and technicians will upgrade the system software or replace the microcontroller as necessary at no cost to owners.

If Tesla Model 3 is successful, Sergio Marchionne will copy it

Fri, Apr 15 2016

Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne hasn't hidden his disdain for electric vehicles, but he would copy the Tesla Model 3 if it is successful, according to Automotive News Europe. If Elon Musk "can show me that the car will be profitable at that price, I will copy the formula, add the Italian design flair and get it to the market within 12 months," Marchionne told Automotive News Europe during FCA's annual meeting in Amsterdam. In terms of pre-orders, the Model 3 is a success. Musk tweeted on April 7 that the company had over 325,000 reservations for the sedan, which he estimated were worth around $14 billion. The car will start at $35,000 before incentives. Marchionne, however, isn't optimistic Tesla can actually make the electric sedan work financially. "I'm am not surprised by the high number of reservations but you have then to build and deliver them and also be profitable," he told ANE. The FCA boss is a noted skeptic of EVs. In 2012, he said that the company only built the 500e because of California's zero-emissions vehicle mandate and to give engineers experience with the technology. He doubled-down in 2014 when he claimed FCA lost $14,000 on each 500e and said he would rather people didn't buy them. More recently, he infamously said "you'd have to shoot me first," before he'd allow a fully electric Ferrari. Related Video:

Strike looms for FCA workers as soon as Wednesday night

Wed, Oct 7 2015

A strike is on the very near horizon for at least some United Auto Workers members at FCA US. On October 6, the union sent a letter to the automaker that officially announced the termination of its agreements with the company as of 11:59 PM on Wednesday, October 7. Assuming that a deal or extension hasn't happened by that time, workers could hit the picket line. While neither side is talking much publicly, it does appear that negotiations are still underway. In a very brief statement, the automaker simply says: "FCA US confirms that it has received strike notification from the UAW. The Company continues to work with the UAW in a constructive manner to reach a new agreement." The UAW seems equally receptive, and it says in a post on Facebook: "Negotiations with FCA continue. Your bargaining team is hard at work and we will continue to post updates when there is more to report." If a strike happens, it could put a serious financial burden on FCA US. Economist Sean McAlinden from the Center for Automotive Research estimates the cost at as much as $40 million per week, according to Reuters. The union hasn't clarified at this time whether all of its workers with the automaker would stop working or if the picket lines would only be at specific plants. The first tentative agreement posted to UAW members working with FCA US utterly failed in voting. Raises and a healthcare co-op would have been among the new benefits. However, the employees were upset that the proposed deal retained a two-tier wage structure, and they also didn't like the lack of details about rumors of major production changes.
