Selling my much-loved 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible. We're currently undergoing some dramatic lifestyle changes, and are needing to downsize.

This car was purchased by myself from the Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep/Ram dealership where I work. It came in as a trade in. The car runs and drives quite nicely. Since owning it, I have replaced a couple of leaking transmission lines and the shift module. The car shifted perfectly fine, but as I was doing the transmission lines, I replaced the module as a precaution. While I was in the engine bay, I did some preventative maintenance as well, so within the last 7,000 miles have replaced the plugs and wires, air filter, belts and oil and filter twice. I also did the transmission fluid and filter and pan gasket seal when doing the transmission lines. I believe in doing everything before it becomes an issue, not afterwards.

Elsewhere in the car, the overall interior is very good, with only the slightest of scuff marks in mostly out-of-the-way places. No cracks, chips, rips or tears to speak of. The roof and weather seals are in excellent condition. I also have the matching boot cover for the top. Tires are in 50% or better condition all around, with one tire being new around 7,500 miles ago. The wheels are painted alloy and in good condition with no "curb rash".

These cars have a weakness for headlight glazing; however this has been addressed with a special treatment and these lights are optically clear. This is also the only year that the PT Cruiser had the First Generation split over/under horizontal grill on the Convertible and the non-scalloped headlights. In my opinion the car looks much better for it.

I feel the only thing that lets the car down slightly was that the previous owner possibly had some parking lot depth perception issues, so that all four bumper corners have slight to moderate paint scratches. While this doesn't affect drivability in any way, I have set the starting bid price to reflect that the car is not cosmetically perfect. I have listed it for $1000 off of KBB value for the scratch issues.

I feel that this car is destined for "future classic" status, and here's your opportunity to get a very low-mileage example for less than book value. I will answer all questions openly and honestly, so please feel free to ask. I'm setting the auction for no reserve, because I don't want the selling process to drag on. Honest car, honest description, honest price. Please be an honest buyer.

Preferred method of payment is Paypal, though Cash or Cashier's check on collection is acceptable. Non-Refundable Paypal deposit of $500 within 48 hours of auction close expected. No deposit=no car, and it will be re-listed. I will deliver (via driving the car) for gasoline plus mileage costs within a somewhat reasonable distance after closure of sale (please e-mail with your consideration of "reasonable").

eBay Find of the Day: 1979 Chrysler ETV-1 electric car prototype

Mon, 27 Jan 2014

Electric cars may be reaching their time in the sun with successes like the Tesla Model S, but the basic concept goes back to practically beginning of motoring. EVs also saw a brief renaissance in the 1970s when automakers were trying find a way around rising fuel prices. This 1979 Chrysler ETV-1 concept for sale on eBay Motors is a great example from that era.
Built in 1979, designers hoped the ETV-1 would preview what an electric car would look like in 1985. The base price was slated to start at $6,400, or the rough equivalent of $20,536, which seems like an optimistic price. General Electric created the ETV-1's powertrain, and Chrysler was in charge of styling. At the time, the Department of Energy called it "the first advanced four-passenger subcompact experimental electric car."
While it seems ancient compared to today's EVs, the ETV-1 featured regenerative braking and a computer-controlled electric motor. Chrysler reported a 100-mile range at 45 miles per hour with two passengers in the car. The range fell to 75 miles with four passengers. Acceleration was not brisk with Chrysler claiming the run to 30 mph in 9 seconds. Power was stored in 18 lead-acid batteries, and a full charge took 10 hours from a home outlet.

2013.5 Chrysler 200 S Special Edition is a Sebring swan song

Wed, 27 Mar 2013

The world is set to get an all-new Chrysler 200 next year, thereby finally putting the bones of the long-serving Sebring to rest. To tide us all over until then, the automaker has released the 2013.5 200 S Special Edition. As a collaboration between Chrysler and the Imported from Detroit clothing line, the sedan features plenty of aesthetic tweaks to give it a bit more attitude. Those include tinted headlamp and taillamp housings, body-color door sills and 18-inch gloss black wheels. There's also a revised front fascia with a black mesh grille, while the tail end gets a decklid spoiler and a revised valance.
Indoors, the seats are clad in black, water-resistant fabric courtesy of Carhartt. Expect to see the 2013.5 200 S Special Edition in dealers soon with a price tag of $28,870. While there are plenty of questions to be asked here, one is more nagging than the others. Why bother buying the special edition when an all-new model is mere months away? It's an age-old question, but it still bears asking. Check out the full press release below for more information.

Jay Leno parades around in '52 Chrysler Imperial

Tue, Jun 23 2015

Jay Leno is not known as a quiet man. He's a comic, after all. So how do you think it'll go when he's given an enormous, Chrysler Imperial parade car, complete with two meaty public-address speakers on the front bumper? Exactly. In an amusing start to the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage, we see the eponymous star of the web series addressing the citizens of Burbank, CA from the big, comfy seat of a 1952 Chrysler Imperial Dual-Cowl Phaeton. One of just three produced by Chrysler at a price of about $33,000 a pop – a whopping $296,000 in today's dollars – this particular example is owned and still used by the city of Los Angeles. Its most famous passengers include President Dwight D. Eisenhower and then-Vice President Richard Nixon. Underhood, there's a 331-cubic-inch Hemi V8 that's been mated to a two-speed PowerFlite automatic. As for the exterior, while it may look like a 1956 Imperial, it did originally roll out of the factory in 1952. According to the LA city officials that accompanied the car, Chrysler called the three sedans back in 1955 and refitted them to fit in with the latest Imperial models. At 21.5 feet long, even in today's world of big pickups and SUVs, this particular example occupies a big space on the road. Surprisingly, it's still driven regularly, taking part in parades and celebrations across the City of Angels. You can check it out both in Jay's garage and on the streets of Los Angeles in the video above.
