Selling my much-loved 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible. We're currently undergoing some dramatic lifestyle changes, and are needing to downsize.

This car was purchased by myself from the Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep/Ram dealership where I work. It came in as a trade in. The car runs and drives quite nicely. Since owning it, I have replaced a couple of leaking transmission lines and the shift module. The car shifted perfectly fine, but as I was doing the transmission lines, I replaced the module as a precaution. While I was in the engine bay, I did some preventative maintenance as well, so within the last 7,000 miles have replaced the plugs and wires, air filter, belts and oil and filter twice. I also did the transmission fluid and filter and pan gasket seal when doing the transmission lines. I believe in doing everything before it becomes an issue, not afterwards.

Elsewhere in the car, the overall interior is very good, with only the slightest of scuff marks in mostly out-of-the-way places. No cracks, chips, rips or tears to speak of. The roof and weather seals are in excellent condition. I also have the matching boot cover for the top. Tires are in 50% or better condition all around, with one tire being new around 7,500 miles ago. The wheels are painted alloy and in good condition with no "curb rash".

These cars have a weakness for headlight glazing; however this has been addressed with a special treatment and these lights are optically clear. This is also the only year that the PT Cruiser had the First Generation split over/under horizontal grill on the Convertible and the non-scalloped headlights. In my opinion the car looks much better for it.

I feel the only thing that lets the car down slightly was that the previous owner possibly had some parking lot depth perception issues, so that all four bumper corners have slight to moderate paint scratches. While this doesn't affect drivability in any way, I have set the starting bid price to reflect that the car is not cosmetically perfect. I have listed it for $1000 off of KBB value for the scratch issues.

I feel that this car is destined for "future classic" status, and here's your opportunity to get a very low-mileage example for less than book value. I will answer all questions openly and honestly, so please feel free to ask. I'm setting the auction for no reserve, because I don't want the selling process to drag on. Honest car, honest description, honest price. Please be an honest buyer.

Preferred method of payment is Paypal, though Cash or Cashier's check on collection is acceptable. Non-Refundable Paypal deposit of $500 within 48 hours of auction close expected. No deposit=no car, and it will be re-listed. I will deliver (via driving the car) for gasoline plus mileage costs within a somewhat reasonable distance after closure of sale (please e-mail with your consideration of "reasonable").

Almost 70 percent of FCA-PSA Groupe models to ride on two PSA platforms

Sun, Dec 22 2019

With the merger between PSA Groupe and Fiat Chrysler having been officially announced this week, we still don't know where everything will settle once the process concludes. We covered the catalog of models herded by the combined company's 12 brands, all of which will remain for now. Profound changes must be afoot somewhere, though, else there'd be no reason for the tie-up. Automotive News has a report on one of the big moves, writing that "more than two-thirds of [PSA-FCA] production would be concentrated on just two platforms." Around 2.6 million cars built by the combined company would sit on PSA's Common Modular Platform, also known as the EMP1, for B-segment city cars, entry-level and mid-range C-segment sedans, and compact crossovers. Three million vehicles would ride on the EMP2 architecture intended for C- and D-segment cars and higher-end crossovers. Those figures account for around 5.6 of the 8.7 million vehicles the combined company expects to sell annually. AN didn't mention the Giorgio platform that's already spread throughout the FCA kingdom to support numerous current and future offerings like the next-gen Jeep Grand Cherokee, but did write that "larger Jeep models will continue to use FCA underpinnings." The body-on-frame chassis' under Ram trucks and the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator should hold pat. We'll wait for word on the fate of the Compact U.S. Wide platform carrying the Chrysler Voyager and Pacifica and Jeep Cherokee. Dodge products with questionable futures are anyone's guess; we've heard the Dodge Durango, still built on a Mercedes-derived platform it shares with the current Grand Cherokee, could go body-on-frame for the next generation, or die and have the Giorgio-based, three-row Jeep Grand Cherokee take its place. More mystery comes with the long-lived LA and LD platforms in the big sedan and coupe trio Chrysler and Dodge still milk quite successfully. And if there were ever a time for the Dodge Journey – last reported as a Giorgio recipient – to modernize or die, we don't know when that time is. Although FCA platforms have been designed with alternative powertrains in mind, AN says the PSA Groupe architectures "are more modern than FCA's equivalent platforms." After PSA acquired GM's Opel/Vauxhall division, the French company didn't waste time moving the Anglo-German products to in-house platforms, helping to put the formerly money-losing operations into the black in just 18 months.

Marchionne open to combination with Ford or GM

Fri, Mar 13 2015

At the depths of the auto industry implosion, there was widely reported talk that General Motors and Chrysler would be merged into a mighty import-beating behemoth. While such notions clearly never materialized, that doesn't mean the idea is dead. In fact, FCA boss Sergio Marchionne still welcomes the idea of a partnership with either GM or Ford. He responded positively to the idea, calling it "technically feasible," when asked about it at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, Automotive News reports. "There's bantering that goes on all the time," Marchionne told AN, before quashing suspicions that a plan was in the works by adding that "nothing substantive" was going on. Our favorite black sweater enthusiast isn't quite as interested in the idea of teaming with a foreign manufacturer like PSA Peugeot Citroen, or in the rumored tie-up with Volkswagen, though. That is a shame, particularly in regards to Marchionne's shut down of a partnership with the French, although it isn't necessarily surprising – FCA already consists of eight automakers, and as Sergio told AN, there's really nothing at PSA that could help the company out. What are your thoughts? Is there an obvious project or segment that would benefit from an FCA partnership with Ford or GM? Have your say in Comments. The next steps automakers could take after sales drop again in April

Tue, May 2 2017

DETROIT (Reuters) - Major automakers on Tuesday posted declines in U.S. new vehicle sales for April in a sign the long boom cycle that lifted the American auto industry to record sales last year is losing steam, sending carmaker stocks down. The drop in sales versus April 2016 came on the heels of a disappointing March, which automakers had shrugged off as just a bad month. But two straight weak months has heightened Wall Street worries the cyclical industry is on a downward swing after a nearly uninterrupted boom since the Great Recession's end in 2010. Auto sales were a drag on U.S. first-quarter gross domestic product, with the economy growing at an annual rate of just 0.7 percent according to an advance estimate published by the Commerce Department last Friday. Excluding the auto sector the GDP growth rate would have been 1.2 percent. Industry consultant Autodata put the industry's seasonally adjusted annualized rate of sales at 16.88 million units for April, below the average of 17.2 million units predicted by analysts polled by Reuters. General Motors Co shares fell 2.9 percent while Ford Motor Co slid 4.3 percent and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV's U.S.-traded shares tumbled 4.2 percent. The U.S. auto industry faces multiple challenges. Sales are slipping and vehicle inventory levels have risen even as carmakers have hiked discounts to lure customers. A flood of used vehicles from the boom cycle are increasingly competing with new cars. The question for automakers: How much and for how long to curtail production this summer, which will result in worker layoffs? To bring down stocks of unsold vehicles, the Detroit automakers need to cut production, and offer more discounts without creating "an incentives war," said Mark Wakefield, head of the North American automotive practice for AlixPartners in Southfield, Michigan. "We see multiple weeks (of production) being taken out on the car side," he said, "and some softness on the truck side." Rival automakers will be watching each other to see if one is cutting prices to gain market share from another, he said, instead of just clearing inventory. INVESTORS DIGEST BAD NEWS Just last week GM reported a record first-quarter profit, but that had almost zero impact on the automaker's stock. The iconic carmaker, whose own interest was once conflated with that of America's, has slipped behind luxury carmaker Tesla Inc in terms of valuation.
