About the 2006 Chrysler Pacifica

The Chrysler Pacifica was a mid-size crossover introduced in 2004 to take advantage of the new CUV market. It competed with other crossovers like the Nissan Murano and was developed remarkably quickly. Unfortunately, the quick development of the Pacifica may have added to significant reliability issues, fuel economy problems, and relatively poor consumer ratings, and the Pacifica was phased out in 2008.

Assembled in Windsor, Ontario, the Pacifica was developed by Chrysler-DaimlerBenz and initially had a 3.5-liter 250 horsepower V6 with a 3,500 pound towing capacity, five seats, and a four-speed automatic transmission. Later models had upgraded engines. The 2008 model, for instance, had a 4.0-liter 253 horsepower V6. Fuel economy on the Pacifica was generally poor, hovering around 14 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. Both forward and all-wheel drive were available.

When the Pacifica was introduced, it was based on the aforementioned burgeoning crossover market and a concept minivan, also called Pacifica, that Chrysler had shown in 1999. The Chrysler-DamlerBenz development team created a fairly large vehicle that married a minivan interior to SUV control. However, there were issues; Chrysler overestimated sales of the Pacifica, which fell with later models. A poor fuel economy and generally poor reliability may have hurt the vehicle's reputation. It also carried a fairly high price tag. Ultimately, the Pacifica didn't meet the expectations of either consumers or Chrysler-DaimlerBenz and may have even contributed to the dissolution of the two car companies' brands.

Several trim options were available with the Pacifica, including the Touring edition, Limited edition, and a final Signature series. The Signature series had a sunroof, built-in GPS, and a DVD player, while the touring edition was popular for its extra seating and a luxury interior. Every model was available in front-wheel and four-wheel drive and all came with built-in CD players. Options included heated seats, leather, and an exterior rack.

The Pacifica was notable for its luxurious interior and its blend of minivan and SUV features. However, fuel economy issues and an underpowered engine plagued early versions of the Pacifica, as did the aforementioned reliability issues. The 2007 and 2008 models are generally considered to be the best of the series, as the 3.8-liter V6 and optional 4.0-liter SOHC V6 helped to overcome many of earlier models' flaws. The Pacifica was an especially safe vehicle. The IIHS awarded the 2007 a five star front and side crash rating and a Best Pick" award in frontal collisions

Safety:

In 2006 the Chrysler Pacifica won an award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety as the “best pick frontal”. In 2007, the Pacifica won a five star front and side crash test rating. The Pacifica received this award for being equipped with traction control, four wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system, all-row side curtain air bags, Electronic Stability Program, and tire pressure monitoring system.

Fiat board makes Chrysler merger official, approves $5.4B bond sale

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

Fiat's board of directors has officially approved the merger plan that will see the conglomerate's automotive operations merged with Chrysler into the new Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
The plan essentially provides a road map for the structure of the new company. It includes provisions for Fiat shareholders - one Fiat share will translate to one share of FCA common stock. The new company will also include a loyalty voting structure, which will provide for shareholders of Fiat stock or those that have held FCA stock for at least three years. According to the plan, these shareholders would see their voting power double, with two votes for every share of FCA's common stock. The overall merger plan still needs to be approved by the company's shareholders.
In other Fiat-related news, the company's board has announced a bond issuance of four billion euro ($5.4 billion). The new bonds should provide the company with a degree of flexibility in refinancing debts associated with the merger plan.

Ferrari IPO could come any day now

Sun, Jul 12 2015

According to Bloomberg, Fiat Chrysler Automotive Sergio Marchionne told reporters at the Toronto Global Forum that the Ferrari IPO could come any day now. "We are days away from filing the prospectus," said Marchionne, who declined to confirm whether rumors of involvement from UBS Group AG, JPMorgan Chase & Co and Goldman Sachs Group were accurate. In addition to an expected filing in New York, Marchionne hinted that a secondary filing could take place in Milan, Italy. Although the FCA Chief Executive didn't offer any expected sum for Ferrari, he had previously suggested that an IPO for the iconic Italian brand could be worth $1 billion, ringing the registers to the tune of 10 percent of the company's $11 billion valuation. According to Bloomberg, that potential sum is significantly higher than its own internal figures indicate after taking a poll of analysts who we assume must know a heck of a lot more about such things than we do. Considering how close we apparently are to the actual filing, though, we probably won't have to wait long to find out. Another hot topic any time Sergio is the subject of reporter questioning is a potential merger with General Motors or another large, full-line automaker. It seems there aren't any new revelations to reveal on the consolidation front, though Marchionne told reporters there were no plans to mount a hostile takeover of GM or any "other, less optimal" partners. Chrysler slows minivan production, hasn't built VW Routan this year

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Chrysler has slowed production of its Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans this week, Automotive News reports. The Windsor, Ontario plant will cut its three shifts from eight hours each to four hours each in an effort "to align production with market demand," a Chrysler spokesperson told AN. Chrysler also builds the closely related Routan minivan for Volkswagen at its Ontario facility, but has not built a single example thus far in 2013.
Sales of Chrysler's minivans fell 15 percent for the first two months of 2013, and a large part of that has to do with the 26-percent drop of the Grand Caravan alone (the T&C was only down by one percent). According to Automotive News data, as of March 1, Chrysler had an unsold inventory of 24,713 Town and Country models and 18,547 Grand Caravans - a 69- and 43-day supply, respectively.
"No sense running full speed now, then have a lot of vehicles sitting around a few months down the line," Chrysler spokeswoman Jodi Tinson told AN. Full production is expected to resume again on March 18.
