1961 Chrysler Newport 2 door hardtop I have a clear California title in my name. The vehicle is currently registered and insured in my name. The car does drive and I have driven it very little in the last year, as I’ve been trying to make it more reliable for weekday and weekend drives. The vehicle you see is in the same condition as I had purchased it, I have done nothing with the paint, body, suspension. Only what I’ve described below. Factory specs for this vehicle: 361 2 bbl. Automatic push button transmission Power steering Power Brakes Heater Radio Delete Remote side view mirror Body: All body panels are fairly straight, small dings and scratches here and there. Paint is weak, tiny spot chips here and there. Looks like single stage, quick spray job who ever painted it. Missing: door and fender
trim, both sides. Passenger side rear quarter window trim. (The trim between the two windows) Appears to have been repaired in the driver’s side rear quarter panel near tail light/bumper (see pics) Whoever painted this car got crazy with painting EVERYTHING red, the control arms, frame, heater box, valve covers, air cleaner. I wanted to tone it down a bit so I started detailing the engine compartment. Rust: Small bubble spots on lower
rockers and lower rear quarter panel. More evident on passenger side. Driver/passenger side front floors pans have some small fiberglass patches over existing floor. Rust spot on driver side C pillar near rear window. Lower trunk gasket area rusted out, only on bottom area, not top or sides. Trunk floor has surface rust, but NOT rusted through, no holes. Rear seat floors are solid Frame front to back is solid, rust free.
Interior: Seats front and rear need recovering. Needs new headliner, needs carpets. I removed the badly cracked dash pad and sagging headliner. Door panels are decent but those should be redone as well. Driver side door handle is removed due to a tension spring that broke and connects to knob. Suspension: Torsion bars lowered up front but can be adjusted to raise it higher. Leaf spring rear, has air shocks and 2 1/2 ” lowering blocks. Tires: 14” stock wheels with bias ply tires. Tires will need replacing at some point but are decent enough for light driving. Engine: Previous owner had radiator flushed, cleaned, re-cored. Gas tank was boiled and sealed. Points, cap and wires replaced. Alternator looks relatively new. What I’ve done: Brakes: All new
brakes
cylinders front & back, brake hoses, spring kits, and shoes. Brake
drums
haven’t been ordered. Power brake booster is off the car for now. Still
working on getting the brakes bled and adjusted before sale. Carb: New carb kit, fuel
filter, added fuel pressure gauge New spark plugs, New MSD blaster coil New battery Electrical: Ordered and installed a professionally made (looks OEM) front and rear wiring harness. Every wire labeled, new bulbs, etc. The entire harness was a little over $1,100.00. If you require any specific details about this car please contact me ASAP, BEFORE the auction ends. If I've missed any details in my description I'd be more than happy to answer your questions. |

UAW may be key to forced FCA merger with GM
Wed, Jul 29 2015Sergio Marchionne doesn't give up on a business deal easily. While outwardly not much has recently been said about FCA's attempted merger with General Motors, Marchionne might be hoping to garner a powerful, new ally that could help break things wide open. The United Auto Workers retiree health care trust is the single largest shareholder of GM with 8.7 percent of the stock, and having its support would certainly improve FCA's position in getting a deal done. "Whatever happens in terms of consolidation, it would never be done without the consent and support of the UAW," Marchionne said when FCA recently began contract talks with the UAW, The Detroit News reports. The boss is also allegedly on good terms with the union president Dennis Williams. Still, using the organization for a hostile takeover could be very difficult because of the way its votes are structured. Other activist investors might already be on board, though. Marchionne believes that consolidation in the industry is vital because automakers are investing to create the same technologies. A GM/FCA merger still has many roadblocks, though, including the fact that Marchionne's company is smaller than GM. From a regulatory perspective, the size of the merged company could raise serious anti-trust concerns among regulators, according to The Detroit News. There's also the concern for lost jobs from redundant work with the two combined businesses. Even if the UAW angle doesn't work out, there are contingency plans afoot for other merger targets. According to The Detroit News speaking to anonymous insiders, FCA bigwigs have a meeting in London on Thursday to take a close look at other options. In addition to GM, they are investigating possible deals with Volkswagen and the Renault-Nissan Alliance. In the past, PSA Peugeot Citroen and multiple Asian automakers have also been brought up as partners, and UBS has reportedly been providing financial advice on what to do.
Audi gets Q2 and Q4 badges in trademark swap with FCA
Sun, Jan 17 2016Audi has swapped trademarks with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles to snare the rights to the Q2 and Q4 badges for upcoming crossover SUVs. Audi CEO Rupert Stadler confirmed at the Detroit Motor Show that the automaker had finally persuaded FCA to release the two names that would let Audi lock up the Q1 to Q9 badges for its growing SUV family. Audi already plans to drop the Q2 name onto its MQB-based city crossover five-door this year, while the Q4 badge will slot onto the rump of a coupe-like version of the next Q3. It will also reserve the Q1 badge for a 2018 baby crossover, based around the architecture of the next A1 hatch. The A1 will share a lot of its engineering with Volkswagen's Polo-based soft-roader, dubbed T-Cross in concept form. The German company has also pounced on the naming rights for SQ versions of all of its Q-cars, along with F-Tron to cover the day when it pushes hydrogen fuel cell cars into production. Stadler insisted that no money had changed hands in order to pry the two badges off FCA, admitting that they had "each found something we needed." "We promised each other we wouldn't disclose what it cost, but it was not something they were willing to sell," Stadler said. "We tried to get it years ago and they said 'No, never,' but there is never 'never' in business. ... This year I went back to them with a proposal and we talked and there were some negotiations and then we agreed to it." Those negotiations are believed to have centered on a trademark swap with a Volkswagen Group name that FCA desperately (evidently) wants to use on a Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge or Maserati. Asked if Audi had given FCA a trademark in return for Q2 and Q4, Stadler replied, "Something very much like that, yes." Audi has used Italian names on past concept cars that FCA could be interested in, such as the 2001 Avantissimo concept and the 2003 Nuvolari coupe. The latter was named after legendary pre-war racer Tazio, who won grands prix for both Alfa Romeo and Audi's forerunner, Auto Union. Both are unlikely trade chips, with laws in Europe preventing the trademarking of the names of actual people. There is always "quattro" (Italian for "four"), but after investing nearly four decades locking it in as an Audi all-wheel-drive name, it's just not anything like trade bait.
Chrysler recalling 278,222 trucks and SUVs over bad rear axles
Thu, 14 Feb 2013Chrysler has issued a recall of 278,222 light trucks and sport utility vehicles here in the United States. The reason: bad rear axles. Specifically, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the rear axle pinion nut may lack a necessary adhesive patch, which could cause the nut to loosen. If this happens, the axle can lock up, which could cause all sorts of havoc on the road.
This is an expansion of the rear axle recall announced in October of last year, where 44,300 Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota models were being called in. At that time, 12 accidents had been reported due to the faulty axle pinion nut.
Affected vehicles include Ram 1500 trucks from the 2009 to 2012 model years, Dodge Dakota models from the 2009 to 2011 model years, and both the Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango SUV twins, both from the 2009 model year only.
