1956 Chrysler New Yorker 4 Door Hardtop on 2040-cars
Dixon, Illinois, United States
RARE opportunity for Chrysler fans! I am selling a rare 1956 Chrysler New Yorker automobile for a friend of mine who lives out of state. This rare find has been in storage for over 13 years and has only 39,768 miles on the car. It has the original paint from the factory on it and is the rare 4 door hardtop model which Chrysler only produced 3,599 units of in 1956. The auto has the original factory Kelsey-Hays wire wheels that are a rare item to behold. The auto is a dash mounted push button automatic model as the picture shows. The engine is the Chrysler original 5.6L 354 HEMI model with 280 h.p. with factory duel exhausts. It still has the factory spare tire in the trunk as in the photo. This car was purchased many years ago in El Monte Calif. in April 1987 from an elderly lady and then driven to the Chicago area with no problems. This auto is major rust free! There is only mild rust on the surface of the rocker panel bottoms and some slightly blistered chrome on the car. The car is solid and can be verified in the pictures showing the under hood and under trunk lid. As stated earlier this auto was removed from storage after 13 years and sent to a mechanic to get it running and to see if anything needed repair. A new fuel pump was installed and a new float assembly was installed in the fuel tank. Check out the pictures of the headliner and there is no sun damage to the inside rear window or padded dash. The engine runs very quite and the transmission shifts great. A new battery was also installed in the auto with new fluids. I would admit the auto should most likely get new points and plugs installed although the car starts and runs fine. The brakes should also most likely be checked out since the car is this old. The radio comes on but I cannot get any stations and I do not actually know what else would be needed but again all the parts are there for your approval. The car can be seen in Dixon, Illinois and I can be contacted for an appointment at 815-288-4139 or email pslonsky@comcast.net. Again this is a RARE opportunity for you to own a very good condition 1956 Chrysler with only 39,768 miles on it. Please contact me if you have any questions and arrange a look see if you desire. |

Ford tumbles to second worst in Consumer Reports reliability survey, list dominated by Japanese [w/video]
Mon, 29 Oct 2012It's no secret that MyFord Touch has had its share of problems since being introduced, but the most recent reliability survey from Consumer Reports shows just how much this infotainment system has affected Ford. Just two years ago, the automaker was in the top 10 for the institute's reliability rankings, but since then, it has tumbled to the second-lowest rung just above dead-last Jaguar. In addition to MyFord Touch, CR also attributes a handful of new products that have had issues right out of the gate.
Compiled from 1.2 million subscriber surveys, this year's auto reliability survey heavily favors Japanese automakers, with eight of the 10 spots hailing from Japan. Toyota brands grabbed the top three spots (Scion, Toyota and Lexus - in that order) with Mazda, Subaru, Honda and Acura filling the next four spots. The only non-Asian automaker cracking the top 10 was Audi at number eight.
Audi climbed a total of 18 spots from last year, and Cadillac and GMC round out this year's top gainers breaking into the top 15. Helping Cadillac's upward movement, the CTS Coupe was named the most reliable domestic car. Lincoln, Volvo and Chrysler join Ford on this year's biggest loser list.
Chrysler and Fiat offering $1,000 rebates to VW owners as Marchionne gets tough
Mon, 10 Dec 2012The throw-down between Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne and Volkswagen has heated up in earnest. According to Bloomberg, Fiat and Chrysler are now offering current Volkswagen owners in the US $1,000 rebates to trade in their ride. It's the latest in a series of shots Marchionne has taken at his German rival. As you may recall, the Fiat executive entered into a spat with Volkwagen board chairman Ferdinand Piëch and CEO Martin Winterkorn in October after the duo called for Marchionne's resignation from presidency of the European Automotive Manufacturers Association (AECA). At the time, the Volkswagen executives were quoted as saying Fiat would not survive the European economic downturn.
In response, Marchionne called the German executives "reprehensible," and accused Volkswagen of using a pricing strategy that has created created a "bloodbath" in the EU. Volkswagen has taken to steep discounting to carve out ever-larger slices of market share in Europe, but the company has a much smaller foothold in the US. Marchionne may be trying to hit Volkswagen where the manufacturer is weakest with the new Fiat new incentive program.
Late last week, the Fiat executive was voted to a second term as ACEA president.
Fiat Chrysler chief still says EVs can't make money
Sun, Jun 12 2016Add Sergio Marchionne's insistence that it's impossible to make money on electric vehicle production to death and taxes among things we can all count on. The Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO, speaking in an interview with UK's Car Magazine, implied that Tesla Motors was "the iPhone of cars." The metaphor may have been mixed, as iPhones make plenty of cash for Apple, whereas Tesla has never made an annual profit from its electric vehicles. But the implication was that automakers should stick to what they know, and they don't know smartphones. Forget any upcoming presidential debates, we're waiting for one between Marchionne and Tesla chief Elon Musk. As for the development of autonomous-driving features? Those are another story, says Marchionne, and an area where he's far more in line with Musk. That's because the technology required to make a car safely accelerate, brake, and steer on its own is far cheaper than making a car with an electric drivetrain that offers similar range and performance to a car with an internal combustion engine, he says. As opposed to electrification, Fiat Chrysler has been going the route of modifying conventional powertrains via wringing out more power out of progressively smaller engines, and mating them with eight- and nine-speed transmissions. As for EVs, credit Marchionne for his consistency. Fiat Chrysler has been selling the Fiat 500e since 2013. That year, Wards Auto named the 500e motor to its 10 Best Engines list, while the 500e won Road & Track's 2013 award for best electric car. Still, Marchionne has long said that Fiat only makes the vehicle for to satisfy zero-emissions vehicle mandates in California, and that the company loses as much as $10,000 for every 500e that it sells.
