I am selling my house and will not have enough room in our downsizing to accomodate my love, Dear Blondie....a 1958 Imperial Southampton in wonderful condition. Everything works but clock..even the radio, although it is disconnected now that I updated the car with a $1000 DVD/cd am/fm radio...watch Casablanca as you cruise this baby around. The interior trunk has been newly lined, the interior carpet is brand new(and correct color/cut),all upholstery is in excellent condition(no rips/or holes) ..the air runs ice cold and the heater works very well. One power window is tempermental but I have a guy looking at it...all four power window motors have been checked and are working smoothly. The wipers work well..the push button starter is seperate unit as the starter relay went out and I am in search of an original...The engine runs excellently and sails down the interstate..screams at 90+ mph./..don't tell anyone! It's the original hemi with 392 cu inches and I trying to remember....345 horsepower...gas tank etc all are in good shape aa is the beautiful mass of chrome and I'd trust taking this car anywhere..It's been garaged and taken well good care of...there is a couple of pinsize rust on the surface of the rear wheel cover on top of the trunk as expected..beautiful but a water catcher...needs very little attention, just though I'd mention it. Please arrange pick up.. I am in Knoxville, TN so we're close to most of the US. I'm taking it to work today so if you want to call me at 865 617 3840, I can meet you on Kingston Pike and you can take a look..Paul

Detroit 3 small cars lay an egg in latest Consumer Reports reliability study

Tue, 28 Oct 2014

Consumer Reports has released its Annual Auto Reliability Survey and the results are, in a word, interesting. While we already covered the score-damaging effects of infotainment systems, there's another big angle to the data that's getting some attention - the utterly dismal scores of the Detroit Three's small car offerings.
The turbocharged Dodge Dart and Chevrolet Cruze, as well as the Ford Fiesta were their respective brands' lowest-scoring models, a stat that's made worse by the fact that the American automakers finished 25th, 21st and 23rd, respectively.
That's not acceptable for The Detroit Free Press' auto critic, Mark Phelan, who has penned a scathing critique of the D3's small car reliability scores, arguing that GM, Ford and Chrysler are "out of excuses."

Ferrari to be spun off from Fiat Chrysler

Wed, 29 Oct 2014

The recently merged Fiat Chrysler Automobiles empire has ambitious plans for growth, and it's going to need some big bucks in its coffers in order to enact them. Part of that cash injection is coming from the floating of its IPO on the New York Stock Exchange, but now FCA has announced a further capital campaign to be based on the enormous asset that is Ferrari.
FCA's board of directors has just approved the separation of Ferrari from the rest of the group as a separate entity. Once that separation is complete, Ferrari will put 10 percent of its shares on the stock market "in the United States and possibly a European exchange" as well.
This isn't the first time that the idea of a Ferrari IPO has been raised. Sergio Marchionne, chief executive of Chrysler, Fiat and Ferrari (pictured above), first raised the idea four years ago. Former Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo nixed the idea, but now that he's been discharged, it appears there's nothing to get in the way of Marchionne's desires.

How fracking is causing Chrysler minivans to sit on Detroit's riverfront

Fri, 25 Apr 2014

It's fascinating the way that one change to a complex system can have all sorts of unintended consequences. For instance, there are hundreds of new Chrysler Town and County and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans built in Windsor, Ontario, sitting in lots on the Detroit waterfront because of the energy boom in the Bakken oil field in the northern US and parts of Canada.
The huge amount of crude oil coming from these sites mostly use freight trains for transport, and that supply boom has resulted in a shortage of railcars to carry other goods. According to The Windsor Star, North American crude oil transport by train has gone from 9,500 carloads in 2008 to 434,032 carloads in 2013. Making matters worse, some North American rail infrastructure is still damaged because of this year's harsh winter, and that's slowing things down even further.
Chrysler admits to The Star that it has had some delivery delays due to the freight train shortage. In the meantime, it's using more trucks to deliver its vehicles. Trucking is a far less economical solution, partially because a train can carry so many more units at one time, but alternatives are slim. The Windsor plant alone has a deal for 33 trucks to distribute the minivans around Canada and the Midwestern US.
