1983 Chrysler Imperial Base Hardtop 2-door 5.2l on 2040-cars
Rose Hill, North Carolina, United States
Here is a well kept example of an early 80's era Imperial. It is in very good condition inside and out. Interior still smells like a new car. Here's the good and the not so good.
Interior - When i sat in this car i was sold. The seats are extremely comfortable and the shag carpet makes you want to drive barefoot. The 'Mark Cross" edition leather is very pliable with minimal wear/marks. All seat functions are in working order. The power windows roll up and down with ease. All interior lighting/lenses work and are in good shape. The radio works, and has a "rear boost" feature that amplifies the rear speakers. Power antenna works fine. The cassette player does not work. The car came with a chrysler cassette tape which i have yet to hear. haha. Power locks work. Power side mirrors motors work, but there are a few positions that need a little push with the finger to get moving again. The instrument panel reads ok, but there are some digits that could be more clear. More noticable in the mileage and gas than the speedo. It comes with a Spare instrument panel. Exterior- Very straight with minimal rust. a few dings that are hard to see unless you catch it in the right light. All lenses are good; retractable headlight mechanisms work. Bumpers are straight and have nice chrome. The car has a "Zeibart" undercoating package. Frame and floorboards are solid. Has new rear metal brake lines and new front and rear rubber flex lines. New muffler and tailpipe. All original drivetrain never modified otherwise. The car came with front and rear anti-sway bars. The hubcaps are in very good shape. The 318 was changed over from the EFI to a 4bbl carb setup. A thermoquad sits on top. Otherwise there are only minimal changes from original. The A/C needs to be recharged. The car has the components for the cruise control but they are not installed. Included with the car are a new gas tank, sending unit, lines and straps for anyone wanting to do a complete changeover like they would have done at the dealer. Not necessary for regular driving, just what came with the car when i bought it. The carb needs to be tuned better. It has a hesitation during first during acceleration, and sometimes will stall, but not often. Id opt for an Edlebrock carb in place of the thermoquad. I think this would also solve this problem. The tires are old and have good tread, but the car really ought to have some new ones. Any other info or pics available upon request. |

Fiat-Chrysler alliance in jeopardy due to Pentastar's IPO filing?
Thu, 26 Sep 2013The four-year relationship between Fiat and Chrysler has thus far been beneficial for both automakers, but it has also proven to be a complicated battle between Sergio Marchionne and the United Auto Workers - the latter controlling the remaining 41.5 percent of Chrysler. With the recent filing for a US IPO, it looks like Marchionne and the UAW appear to be playing a billion-dollar game of chicken, with both sides far apart on how much the union's shares are worth. If it comes down to Chrysler's remaining stake being publicly traded, it could act to drive a wedge between the two companies.
According to Bloomberg, Fiat's chairman John Elkann says "if the IPO will take place, there will be two companies, and that's different than having a single one." Now, we're not great at math, but this sounds like the complete opposite of the full merger that Marchionne has been pushing for since taking the helm at Chrysler. Bloomberg notes that the UAW's shares should be worth around $5.6 billion, but Fiat could end up paying as little as $4.9 billion for Fiat to gain full control of Chrysler. A story by The Detroit News points out that Marchionne's "alleged low-balling" is just the latest hurdle the Auburn Hills-based automaker must overcome as its ownership is being fought over for the fourth time in 15 years.
2015 Ram 1500 Rebel is rugged, oddly styled
Tue, Jan 13 2015Feeling rebellious? Ram has you covered for 2015 with its new 1500 Rebel model, which, though nowhere near as focused as the Ford F-150 Raptor with which you may think it competes, is skewed toward the always-nebulous "outdoor lifestyle" set that marketing teams the world over seem to covet so much. For such hiking/camping or otherwise outdoorsy types, the Ram Rebel offers an extra inch of suspension travel over regular-grade 1500 models, along with 33-inch tires, a new bumper that affords a better approach angle, tow hooks and a center skid plate. Those are the kind of upgrades many buyers consider mandatory for basic off-road capability, and it's nice that Ram has baked them into a single model. We're less enthused by the in-your-face styling of the rebel, particularly up front, where the traditional crosshair grille has been replaced by a protruding proboscis that's nothing if not unique. There's also massive RAM lettering on the tailgate, just in case you weren't sure who made the Rebel... The show truck's red exterior is mimicked inside, and the leather seats are embossed in a tire-tread pattern. Subtle, it is not. Buyers will have the choice of a 3.6-liter V6 or 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine, mated to an automatic transmission and the choice of two- or four-wheel drive, though we don't understand why anyone would choose a Rebel without 4x4. In any case, check out the live pics above and the press release and videos below for more details. "Offering an off-road-style package on the Ram 1500 has been on our to-do list for some time but the right combination didn't present itself until now," said Bob Hegbloom, President and CEO - Ram Truck Brand, FCA US LLC.
Toledo continues fight for Jeep Wrangler production, despite mayor's death
Thu, Feb 19 2015Where will the next-generation Jeep Wrangler be built? That's an open question, but it's one that the city of Toledo, OH desperately wants to be the answer to. The city suffered a major blow, though, with the death of Mayor Michael Collins earlier this month. Collins had been the city's biggest champion during talks with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, before suffering a fatal heart attack on Feb. 6. But Collins' tragic death isn't dampening the city's desire to carry on as the home of the Wrangler. "The mayor's passing is tragic. But on Monday, when I came to work, I knew exactly what I needed to do and exactly what needed to be done," the city's director of development, Matt Sapara, told the Detroit Free Press. According to the Freep, Sapara said Toledo and the state of Ohio have delivered an outline of a development plan that would give FCA the ability to buy an extra 100 acres to expand the factory. This is to help accommodate FCA's targeted output of 300,000 to 350,000 next-generation Wranglers, up from the 240,000 the factory can make now. "Our target in the proposal is to provide a way to increase the production capacity to a number that allows Fiat Chrysler to meet its business model," Sapara told the Freep, adding that the land could be available later this summer. FCA, meanwhile, has shown a somewhat ambivalent attitude towards Toledo production, with CEO Sergio Marchionne openly discussing the pros and cons of continuing to build the Wrangler south of the Michigan border. "We are going to take a very hard look at this without ignoring what these guys have done," Marchionne told the Free Press at last month's Detroit Auto Show, adding that he'd like to keep production there, provided the cost of retooling is comparable to relocating to another facility.
