Texas Classic Cars of Dallas is proud to present this beautiful classic Chrysler Imperial Crown Coupe. A great car in itself, this 1968 Imperial Crown Coupe is much different from the rest. This car was ordered with the Mobile Director package, a feature offered only on 1967 and 68 model year Imperials. The Mobile Director basically served as an informal conference lounge in the Crown Coupe. This example is believed to have been part of a military dignitaries' fleet at some time, due to the custom - fitted, well - fabricated flag stands at all four corners.

The following video is a 1967 Chrysler television advertisement showcasing a Chrysler Imperial Crown Coupe with the Mobile Director package.

From stem to stern, this stately automobile measures at 18 feet, 8.5 inches. It rides on its factory 15-inch wheels wrapped in 3-band-whitewall poly-bias tires all around for a vintage look. The tires are in very good condition. This is a car that can be driven. It steers, stops and handles very nicely.

The exterior is finished in its correct Military Blue metallic paint, showcasing one previous re-paint. The chrome and bright work show very well, with some minor pitting on pot metal I will detail in the photographs. Most of this car's smaller trim is high quality stainless steel. The paint itself shows very well, with a few minor imperfections.

The Mobile Director was basically designed for the busy executive who must continue to work while he travels. It also serves as an informal conference lounge in the Crown Coupe. It was offered for only two model years (67,68). Different sources show production numbers at either 71, 81, or 172 for both years combined. This is one very rare car.

There is also a portable Tensor reading lamp that conveniently plugs into any of four cigar lighter sockets. The table, supported by a sturdy chrome-plated pillar, can be pivoted to the right, left, and forward. It converts into a padded armrest between the two front seats. Extended, the table opens out to twice its original size. A lever on the table swivel support permits table height adjustments.

The exterior Military Blue paint is in exceptional condition, complimented by the factory-optioned Antique White Vinyl Top. There is more than one commander on air fore bases and the only car that had a white top was the wing commanders car. This was because in the case of an attack on the base, our troops would know to look for the car with the white top knowing that the wing commander was in it.

Catching up with Chrysler's EV catch-up plan

Tue, Sep 16 2014

At your home or office? Those are the key words for how Chrysler and its Fiat affiliate want to narrow the plug-in vehicle sales gap between themselves and more plug-in-centric companies like Nissan and Ford, according Wards Auto. When the gap will narrow is anyone's guess. The US automaker, long a laggard in electric-powertrain development, is working on an wireless, inductive charging system with Qualcomm and which could spur sales of plug-in vehicles for personal use. A wireless system would allow for hands-free charging for vehicles like the Fiat 500e, the company's only plug-in vehicle being sold to the public in the US as well as a plug-in hybrid minivan that's in the works for 2016. On the business front, Chrysler is working with nonprofit NextEnergy on developing a reverse-power-flow system. That would allow for fleet-owning businesses to draw power from their plug-in vehicles' batteries during mid-day peak-energy times, when electricity rates are highest. Chrysler and NextEnergy ran a one-month test of a reverse-power-flow system with four Fiat 500e vehicles last year, and the companies found that they could cut power usage enough to save $1,200. Chrysler extrapolated those numbers to estimate that such a system with just a dozen plug-in vehicles could save a company as much as $27,000 a year. Get more details over at Wards Auto. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles: The next five years

Tue, 06 May 2014

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past 24 hours, you've no doubt read about all of the big future product news coming out of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles today. We had individual brand reports from Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Maserati and even Ferrari, but in the interest of simplifying and summarizing, we're going to list out the hard facts once more. Of course, with all of this still off in the future, there's still the possibility that a few changes will be made. But as of what we know right now, here's what's coming, and what's going away.

SRT pulling Vipers out of Le Mans

Tue, Mar 25 2014

Last year, Chrysler campaigned a pair of SRT Viper GTS-Rs in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was the first time Auburn Hills had sent a team to the famous French endurance race since 2000, when the Viper ended a three-year winning streak in the GTS class. It finished in 24th and 31st places, woefully behind the Porsche 911 RSR that won the LMGTE Pro category. But this year it won't be back. According to a report from Sportscar365 citing a statement issued by SRT chief Ralph Gilles, the outfit turned down its invitation from the ACO that organizes the race, ending what could have been a multi-year campaign. Instead it's opting to focus on its Stateside campaign in the United SportsCar Championship. SRT sent Autoblog the following statement: "We regretfully and respectfully decline to participate in this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans," said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO of SRT (Street and Racing Technology) Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC. "We are honored to once again be invited by the ACO (Automobile Club de l'Ouest) to compete in this historic event, and they were the first to be informed of our decision. We will remain focused on our North American racing program in 2014." In its place, the Ferrari 458 fielded by JMW Motorsport will be invited to fill the last slot in the class, leaving only the Corvette and Dempsey Racing entries to represent the United States in the race this year. "Hopefully, we'll continue to go to Le Mans for many years to come," as SRT's marketing chief Beth Paretta put it when announcing the effort a year ago, "but as a sports-car fan, if you can make the trip even once, it's worth it."
