1957 Chrysler Imperial 2 Door Hardtop on 2040-cars

General...I bought this car in June of 1982 and have owned it since. It has always been licensed and road-driven (sparingly) since. Due to advancing age and health problems, I am unable to maintain it the way I would like. It needs a new home and the care it deserves. I am listing every detail I can think of, both good and items needing attention. The new owner should experience no undisclosed problems. However, please remember that, even though I have owned this car for 32 years, I could still miss something. Body...Very solid, original floors and trunk floor, no accidents, original rocker panels, minimal rust repair, bumpers not dented, power antenna broken but new one included with car, chrome fair, all glass excellent and crack free. Rear bumper brackets (2) need to be installed, drivers outside door handle needs adjustment, rear license plate light needs to be reinstalled, small repair patch in trunk, a few pinholes in trunk, all windows work Engine...Runs excellent, burns no oil, Holley carb with electric choke, have original carb and air filter, but missing mounting brackets, new lifters, canister oil filter replaced with screw-on small filter, have original canister setup, oil pan and rear main seal leak and should be repaired (new gaskets included), exhaust system mostly quiet but 25 years old and will need replacement at some point, transmission throttle shaft seal needs replacement ( new seal included), new spark plug wires installed Tires, Brakes, and Suspension...Car should have 14" wheels and tires, but had 15" when I bought it. Hubcaps are 1966 Imperial, ball joints, tie rods, control arm bushings, drag link, idler bearing all replaced. I unknowingly drove car for awhile with underinflated tires and they are worn unevenly. Tires are legal and safe but new owner might want to replace them. Size L78X15 bias ply. Never had a bumper jack to change a flat tire. Interior...Original interior and headliner (57 years old) needs replacement. Mice lived in headliner years ago, driver seat has a depression where the driver would sit (broken springs?), dash covering was destroyed by sun, recovered but without proper padding (my bad) looks nice but inside windshield trim now has a gap where padding would be (1/2 inch), non-working, non-standard tachometer where clock should go, located a clock at a swap meet, but don't know if it works, all gauges work, but the temp and fuel gauges need a tap on the dash to get moving.........also, fuel gauge itself works, but sending unit in tank needs cleaning...gauge reads 1/2 full all the time, car has rear defrost fan that is operated by toggle switch under dashboard, need new kick panels and have originals for templates, same situation with trunk side panels and carpet in trunk, interior rug installed without proper padding, dash lighting is operable, but one instrument cluster is brighter than the other. |

Jeep follows up Super Bowl spot with call to help the USO
Tue, 05 Feb 2013Once again, Chrysler had one of the most talked about Super Bowl commercials with its two-minute Whole Again Jeep spot, which was used to highlight its Operation SAFE Return program for US military personnel returning home from active duty. As part of this campaign, Jeep announced today that it will be donating up to $300,000 to the United Services Organizations (USO), and you can help.
Simply tweet using the #joinOSR hashtag on Twitter, visit the Yahoo! homepage or go to the Jeep Operation SAFE Return website, and Jeep will donate $1 to a fund that provides returning troops things like employment assistance and incentives to buy new vehicles. Jeep is also donating to this charity to the tune of $250 for each Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited (including the Freedom Edition model) and Jeep Patriot Freedom Edition model sold.
Are you the 2015 Chrysler 300?
Tue, 16 Sep 2014When Chrysler showed us its hand and revealed its five-year product plan to the world, we learned that the updated 300 sedan will bow at the LA Auto Show in November. Now, thanks to Allpar, we might have our first (super grainy) look at the new sedan a full two months ahead of its official debut.
Unlike its Dodge Charger platform mate, the new 300 isn't really all that different from the model currently on sale. That said, we're not sure if the changes shown here really reflect styling that we'd call "better," with the company's logo sort of floating at the top of the grille, and a more simplistic front end that lets the schnoz stick out a bit. Again, nothing drastic to talk about, but the new tweaks are kind of weak. Of course, we'll wait until we see the finished product in the metal before we make up our minds.
Don't expect things to change too much in terms of interior refinement or powertrain offerings, as well, with all the same leather and technology we've enjoyed in the 300 before, and the usual 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and 5.7-liter Hemi V8 powertrain options. We'll know for sure when the car shows its freshened face in Los Angeles in November.
Canada bailed out GM, Chrysler without really knowing what they were getting into
Tue, Dec 2 2014The Auditor General of Canada recently issued a report that makes at least one thing clear: it doesn't know how effective Canadian government loans given to General Motors and Chrysler in 2009 were in ensuring the viability of both companies. That year, the Canadian and Ontario governments dished out $10.8 billion CAD ($9.6B US) to GM and $2.9 billion CAD ($2.6B US) to Chrysler, but hadn't yet sorted out precisely how the funds were to be used before disbursing them. This happened in spite of the fact that, according to a piece in Bloomberg, the loans weren't meant to be handed out until authorities were clear on the manufacturers' plans for reorganization. In fact, federal officials hadn't finished establishing the concessions made by all the involved parties, the pension liabilities, nor the long-term soundness of the automakers' financial positions. On top of that, apparently it didn't keep close tabs on the money after loaning it: the report says that $1B CAD should have been applied to GM Canada pension plans but was instead given to GM to use. Chrysler repaid $1.7 billion, while GM handed back $3.8 billion and Bloomberg believes the feds in Ottawa still own 110 million shares of The General, which, at the stock price as of writing, would be good for another $3.9 billion. Those were mad, bad days, though, and we're not sure what point the report serves, other than to say, "Oh, by the way...."
