This 1956 Chrysler Imperial, VIN C56-4379, engine CE-564381, is a body off restoration that has been stopped after 4 years due to health issues that are incurable. I have been restoring cars for 60 years as a hobby and have received Senior Awards at Hershey so you know what is required to get those. This was my retirement project. l intended this to be a driver and not a trailer queen. So what do you get.

CHASSIS/SUSPENSION: Sandblasted, primed, coated with two coats of POR-15. Completely rebuilt to  include new springs front and rear, new shock absorbers front and rear, new bushings and shackles, any cracks rewelded, especially the anti-vibration strut mounts above the rear axle on the cross-member which are a weak point.

DRIVETRAIN: Completely rebuilt 354 Hemi, bored .030, crank turned .010, all new internals to include pistons, bearings, rods, gears, camshaft, oil pump, gaskets. Cylinder heads rebuilt to include new valves, inserts, seals, exhaust valve seats machined and hardened seats installed in order to run on this modern unleaded gas. Replaced exhaust manifolds, old ones cracked. Rebuilt Carter carb. WGFB-2367-S. New wires and plugs, distributor rebuilt. Generator and P/S pump rebuilt. New exhaust system pipes and mufflers. Approximately 2hrs run time on the engine statically.

TRANSMISSION: rebuilt 2 speed Powerflite. Rebuilt emergency brake assembly and new center driveshaft bearing.

DIFFERENTIAL: Cleaned, inspected, painted with  new bearings and seals.

STEERING: Rebuilt, new pittman arm, replacement power steering column. Old one was pumping oil out of vent hole.

BRAKES: Rebuilt with new wheel cylinders, shoes, drums turned.

COOLING: Cleaned and repaired copper radiator, new waterpump, new hoses, thermostat.

A/C: Factory AC system installed from a donor car. Not charged currently.

WIRING: New wiring harness installed for the dash, engine compartment, front lights

BODY: Removed from chassis and totally stripped bare. Sandblasted, cleaned, all rust identified and cut out. New fabricated front floors, rocker panels inner and outer, lower quarter panels, and trunk floor welded in. Lower panel below trunk lid notorious for rusting behind the ss trim replaced from donor car. Body painted with epoxy primer. Original color of car was black, I changed to desert rose and cloud white. Roof, firewall, dash and steering column painted in factory color. Firewall equipment installed including heater cores, hoses, ww assembly, and hoses. Fresh air vents reinstalled. Dash rewired and reinstalled. Front seat power frame reinstalled. Body has been reinstalled on the chassis.

WHAT REMAINS TO FINISH:

Complete restoration of front fenders, hood, and doors. Rechrome some of the pot metal trim. All ss trim is in good shape. Restore or use as is interior seats, door panels. Previous owner had interior upholstered in incorrect fabrics for the car. New carpets required, new trunk pad required. Have old ones for pattern.  Detail the car out.

FOR EASE OF SHIPPING AND PICKUP I AM REINSTALLING THE SHEET METAL/TRIM THAT IS TO BE RESTORED. SOME SPARE PARTS GO WITH THE CAR.

On Jan-29-13 at 06:13:50 PST, seller added the following information:

MANUALS: Also included are a preview manual to the 1956 factory workshop manual, and an original 1956 factory workshop manual, restoration supply manuals from various parts suppliers, wiring diagram, fabric samples of the correct upholstery, headliner material, and carpet. Pictures of the car before restoration started and various miscellaneous parts such a carburetor, exhaust manifold, brake shoes, miscellaneous interior and exterior parts, and the original power steering column which can be rebuilt today.

A set of 1956 Packard window switches including the master and all window switches plus the electrical plugs are included. The Chrysler originals are notorious for the phenolic backing disintegrating. It is a paper based impregnated resin mounting plate for the wiring posts. Each post has a screw for wire attachment and the posts break out which makes the switch difficult to repair although I have a set of instructions on how to repair/remanufacturer the switch. Packard designed a much better system with fitted plug-ons and with no phenolic paper mounting plate. The switches are identical to Chrysler, the surround is slightly different but you can use the original Chrysler surround. It fits.

Why Stellantis needs Chrysler

Wed, Mar 24 2021

Stellantis has a secret weapon. It’s called Chrysler. Rumors swirled this year that the 96-year-old namesake brand of the former Chrysler Corp. could be on the chopping block, but Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares promptly shot them down. Now what? The brand has three nameplates: the 300 sedan, the Pacifica minivan and Voyager minivan, which is just an entry-level version of the Pacifica. Sedans and vans are not high priorities for most automakers, but they work for Chrysler. And because it is such a small brand, it has great opportunity. Consider the existing product line: The Pacifica is one of the best minivans you can buy. Stellantis has a lot of brands, but it doesnÂ’t have that many singular products that are at or near the top of their segments. The Pacifica is good, but the Pacifica Hybrid is unmatched. ItÂ’s an affordable, plug-in electric minivan thatÂ’s efficient and functional. ThereÂ’s nothing else like it on the market. The 300 is ancient, and unlike its platform mate, the highly evolved Dodge Charger, the 300 has languished. The 300 is still a decent premium sedan, but itÂ’s gone from trendsetter to afterthought. Chrysler needs a new 300 thatÂ’s different from the Charger and offers some kind of premium proposition. In this view, a rear-wheel-drive flagship thatÂ’s performance-oriented but civilized would work. The existing formula, essentially, just updated. ThereÂ’s a lot of equity in the 300 nameplate, and frankly the Chrysler brand needs vehicles, so killing this sedan doesnÂ’t make a lot of sense. Find an identity and make it work.  2021 Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle View 19 Photos A revitalized 300 and a winning Pacifica buy some time. Then? Just two more vehicles would make Chrysler considerably stronger. Resist the urge to go with a sports car, which would drain time and resources. Did the Crossfire do anything for Chrysler? Even if they nail it, itÂ’s still a niche vehicle. Instead, go for the obvious — but make it interesting. A midsize crossover with an amazing interior and a plug-in powertrain, like the Lincoln Aviator, would do the trick. Offer two- and three-row variants. This might bump up against Jeep and its Wagoneer family. DonÂ’t worry, Jeep will be fine. This is about resuscitating Chrysler. Do something clever with the suspension (again, like the Aviator and its Mustang-derived chassis) or add some kind of conversation-starting technology, like VolvoÂ’s safety features. The other model should be all-electric.

SRT reveals Satin Vapor Edition 300, Charger and Challenger SRT models

Fri, 07 Feb 2014

With the exception of some notable truck and van introductions, Chrysler brands have tended to use the Chicago Auto Show to bring out new special editions, pimp their aftermarket parts support or indulge in the occasional flight of fancy. That plan is holding true for 2014, as well. Cases in point are these new Satin Vapor Editions of the 2014-model-year Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 - all from SRT.
The Satin Vapor name may sound like a failed 1970s glam-rock band, or a pseudo-gynecological diagnosis from the Old West, but is, in fact, pretty much a tape-and-trim package for this trio of hi-po Mopars. 300, Challenger and Charger alike come shod with 20-inch aluminum wheels finished in Black Satin Vapor Chrome, and are accented with Satin Black bits aplenty. The 300 gets blacked-out mirrors, spoiler and roof; the Challenger applies it to mirrors and its fuel door; while the Charger has the stuff covering its roof, hood and Super Bee tail graphic.
Interiors of the cars have been mildly updated as well, with all three getting some combination of Nappa leather, ultra-suede and carbon-fiberish finishes.

Junkyard Gem: 1990 Plymouth Voyager Turbo

Mon, Feb 4 2019

There was a time when the word "TURBO" was king, and even Detroit minivans came with nervous, hair-drier-boosted engines and screaming TURBO badging. Why, some of them even had manual transmissions (sadly, not this van) and in the case of the 1990 Plymouth Voyager Turbo I spotted in a Denver self-service wrecking yard, a lysergic purple paint plus a Bordello Red interior. The first-generation Voyager minivan (not to be confused with the full-sized B-series Voyager van that preceded it) was a tremendous smash hit for Chrysler. Because it came from the K-Car platform, most of the powertrain options available for other members of the many-branched K Family Tree— from the Mitsubishi Astron to the Chrysler turbo 2.5— went into the Voyagers, Caravans, and Town & Countries. The turbocharged 2.5-liter four, rated at 150 horsepower, was an option for the 1989 and 1990 Voyagers. That doesn't sound like much today, an era in which the Voyager's descendants churn out close to 300 horses, but it was lunacy for a front-wheel-drive family hauler that weighed just over 3,000 pounds. And people eventually discovered they could be made far faster than stock. Voyager shoppers could get five-speed manual transmissiona with their Turbo 2.5 engines, though few did. Still, there were more Voyagers and Caravans with the 5-speed than you might think, in part because of the manual transmission's lower cost. The slushbox didn't conquer the Chrysler Corporation Minivan World until 1996. Nissan probably had the most vividly red interiors of the late 1980s and early 1990s, but Chrysler didn't lag far behind. Look at these acres of shiny red plastic and tough, red I Can't Believe It's Not Velour! Because minivans remain useful for decades, most of them have high odometer readings by the time they get junked. So at a little over 115,000 miles, this one may have had a busted speedometer cable. Speedometers reading better than 85 mph were legal after 1981, but perhaps Chrysler decided not to encourage lead-footed hoonery among minivan drivers. This content is hosted by a third party.
