1948 Chrysler Crown Imperial Limousine Over the three year period 1946 – 1948 just 750 Imperial limousines were built. Chrysler did not break down individual year production during that time frame. This example is readily identifiable as a 1948 because of the short chrome spear over the front wheel well. The C-40 models are accepted as Full Classics by the Classic Car Club of America. Powered by a 323 cubic inch straight-8 with 135 horsepower and backed by a 4-speed Fluid Drive transmission it sits on a 145.5” wheelbase. The car weighs almost 5,000 lbs. Inside, the front compartment is black leather. Behind the power divider glass is the blue and gray broadcloth passenger compartment with a folding pair of jump seats. This car is a very original example with a lot of original paint. With the exception of the front bumper the chrome is all original and in very good condition. There is some minor deterioration as you might expect from a 65-year old car. The front seat cushion was recovered several years ago, in leather as original. There is a small split in the backrest leather on the upper left corner. It is fitted with a rubber mat in front, original, in good condition. The upholstery in the rear is all original. It does show some fading but no rips or tears. The carpet is also original and shows some light staining but minimal wear. Trunk lining is all complete, some minor staining but no rips or tears. The big straight-8 starts easily and runs very nicely. Good oil pressure, no smoke and no nasty noises. The Fluid Drive works just as advertised; shifts promptly and no leaks. The engine compartment is very original; I think the engine was repainted some years ago in the original silver but there has been no other cosmetic work done. The radiator was re-cored several years ago, at great expense, so it runs cool at all times. Equipment includes a push-button radio (vibrator noise but no reception), Deluxe heater/defroster, front and rear compartment clocks, Rear compartment chauffeur buzzer, back-up light, parking brake warning lamp, fog lamps, outside rear view mirror, stainless wheel trim rings, white wall tires, Directional signals, Center bumper guard and locking gas cap. Hydro-electric Power Windows, including the divider, are all working. For the past 19 years this Classic has been owned by a close friend. He passed away last January and we are selling it for his wife. They toured with the car regularly and put about 8,000 miles on the car during that time. It has been reliable and comfortable with plenty of luggage space for long-distance tours. Sergio rethinks FCA-GM merger idea, dismisses critics
Sat, Dec 5 2015After many public overtures, Fiat Chrysler Automotive CEO Sergio Marchionne has claimed his company won't be making a hostile takeover bid for General Motors. This is despite widespread speculation that FCA's desire to merge was motivated by its allegedly dire situation. As one unnamed GM exec who spoke to Automotive News earlier this year put it, "Why should [GM] bail out FCA?" "We are not choking. We are in relatively decent shape," Marchionne told journalists attending an FCA shareholder meeting in Amsterdam, AN reports. "We have been publicly rebuffed, we have been rejected and you cannot force these things. I don't want to. At the moment, we have no intention to do anything hostile." Instead of focusing on merging with GM, or any other partners for that matter, FCA will refocus on implementing its ambitious five-year investment plan, which would see it dump $52 billion into its various brands, with a particular focus on Alfa Romeo, Maserati, and Jeep. So far the attempt has largely been unsuccessful, especially as it relates to the Italian brands. Earlier this week, additional reports emerged that claimed Alfa was pushing back the Giulia and an unnamed CUV while reassigning resources to updated versions of the Giulietta and MiTo hatchbacks. This is not the first time we've heard about trouble for the Giulia, of course. For Masearti, though, it was the first we'd heard of delays for Alfieri sports car, which allegedly won't appear in 2016, as promised. We can expect a proper breakdown of FCA's adjusted plans when Marchionne and Company reveal an updated product slate next month. Marchionne's pay as Fiat CEO falls to $5M
Wed, 12 Mar 2014Sergio Marchionne will be buying fewer of his iconic sweaters, as his 2013 pay from Fiat took a dip from $6.24 million to an even $5 million. Marchionne, who was also CEO of Chrysler, made $307,989 thanks to some stocks and benefits from the American company, although he didn't take a salary. Of that $5 million paid by Fiat, $3.19 million came from Marchionne's fixed salary while the remaining $1.8 million was paid for hitting unspecified performance targets.
The news comes from Fiat's compensation reports, which also showed that the 61-year-old, who already owned three million shares in Fiat at the end of 2013, was able to receive an additional 2.3 million shares through a stock incentive program. According to Automotive News Europe, the additional shares would be worth about $25 million at today's prices, although so far, Marchionne has declined to claim the extra shares.
According to ANE, Fiat reported a 2013 trading profit of $4.7 billion.
Jeep to stop using bad Takata airbag inflators next week
Tue, Jun 21 2016FCA is gradually ceasing to produce vehicles equipped with Takata airbag inflaters found to be inherently faulty. These airbags, which lack a certain drying agent, have been linked with dangerous premature ruptures. According to FCA, the only vehicle still in production with the named airbag is the 2016 Jeep Wrangler, and in this case they are passenger-side airbags. Fiat Chrysler says it isn't aware of any incidents involving these air bag inflaters in Jeeps, but amidst concerns that vehicles with failure-prone airbags are still being marketed to customers, North American-market 2016 Wranglers will cease to be equipped with them starting next week. As per FCA's statement, global production is expected to end by mid-September. In addition to Toledo, Ohio, the Wrangler is produced in Egypt. FCA isn't going to sell the cars with the deemed-faulty airbags without disclosing the fact to the customers: anyone buying a 2016 Wrangler will be notified that the vehicle will most likely be subject to a recall in the future, even if there is not currently a recall announced for them. NHTSA has specified a "Coordinated Remedy Program" recall schedule for the coming years, and the airbag inflaters will degrade over a time frame of several years, when subjected to a humid environment.
