Up for auction is my 1965 Chrysler Newport coupe.  A 99% all-original car!  Unrestored cars are all the rage right now, so here's your chance to own one.  Below are the descriptions for all areas - feel free to ask questions.

BODY:  super straight,  with original white paint, which is very thin on roof, hood, & trunk lid.  Some areas have tiny pinprick size dots of surface rust.  The only rust holes in this car are one that's in the trunk (see photo of my hand pointing to it), and a small area on driver's floor (also shown in photo)  Both are easily fixable.
Hood opens & closes perfectly, as does the trunk. Both doors are solid, no sagging hinges.
All stainless steel trim is near perfect; the only dent being on the rocker below driver's door.  The only piece that is missing on this car is a 2" long rocker trim, that is actually on the right side fender skirt.  Chrome bumpers are straight & not dented, but front bumper has a one area of flaked-off chrome, which shows as surface rust.  Grill is immaculate!
Glass is all good, with one small chip in windshield. Window mechanisms need lubed on 3 windows.
INTERIOR: Original white vinyl, with rips/seam splits on front seat (thus the cover) Back seat has a few split seams too.  Headliner is brand new, as is package shelf. Black vinyl dash is near perfect also.  Original carper it pretty much shot. Door panels look pretty good, but have wear marks on driver's door.
All electrical stuff works great, except radio: light comes on, but no sound.  Map light needs new bulb.  Inside glove compartment on door, is the original service tag, with the date  6-11-65 written in delivery box!  Very cool !  Wipers, lights, gas gauge,  horn, turn signals - including indicator lights on front fenders - all work fine.
ENGINE:  Runs strong & perfect! Has new alternator, belt, new valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, just rebuilt carb, voltage regulator, new fuel pump, and air filter.  This car runs super - when you step on the gas, it jumps!
DRIVE  TRAIN: 3-spd 727 auto tranny shifts perfectly, and I had a new idler arm installed.  Tires are one year old radials with only 5,000 miles on them.

Please note the beautiful wheel covers with spinners, original with this car.  These are some of the best you'll see!

This is a really great old car, that could use some cosmetics to be really nice, or just drive it as it is.  but be sure your garage is long enough: bumper to bumper measures 18'-2"   !!  They don't build them like this anymore....

Any questions, please email or call.  My home phone (eves/weekends) is 541-726-8467.  Weekdays is 541-285-7859

Shipping:  Please get your own quotes, as there are far too many companies with lots of prices.  I will work with the driver on this end, and be available to load it at the pick-up area 3 miles from my house.

Good luck bidding!

Fiat-Chrysler alliance in jeopardy due to Pentastar's IPO filing?

Thu, 26 Sep 2013

The four-year relationship between Fiat and Chrysler has thus far been beneficial for both automakers, but it has also proven to be a complicated battle between Sergio Marchionne and the United Auto Workers - the latter controlling the remaining 41.5 percent of Chrysler. With the recent filing for a US IPO, it looks like Marchionne and the UAW appear to be playing a billion-dollar game of chicken, with both sides far apart on how much the union's shares are worth. If it comes down to Chrysler's remaining stake being publicly traded, it could act to drive a wedge between the two companies.
According to Bloomberg, Fiat's chairman John Elkann says "if the IPO will take place, there will be two companies, and that's different than having a single one." Now, we're not great at math, but this sounds like the complete opposite of the full merger that Marchionne has been pushing for since taking the helm at Chrysler. Bloomberg notes that the UAW's shares should be worth around $5.6 billion, but Fiat could end up paying as little as $4.9 billion for Fiat to gain full control of Chrysler. A story by The Detroit News points out that Marchionne's "alleged low-balling" is just the latest hurdle the Auburn Hills-based automaker must overcome as its ownership is being fought over for the fourth time in 15 years.

Marchionne completed Fiat-Chrysler deal from a Florida beach

Fri, 03 Jan 2014

Sergio Marchionne is the CEO of Fiat, which as you may have heard, has finally worked up a deal to finish acquiring the Chrysler Group after months of bargaining with the United Auto Workers and its VEBA healthcare trust, which owned just over 40 percent of the American brand. Where was Marchionne when the deal was finally hammered out? Well, not tucked away in a frigid Detroit board room until the wee hours of the morning.
Nope, one of the largest deals in automotive history was reportedly hammered out on the beach - at the home of a banker, in the Florida resort town of Vero Beach. Marchionne traveled to the home of Alain Lebec, a senior managing director at Brock Capital LLC, one of the advisory companies for the VEBA fund, where both sides met to make final arrangements in the $4.35-billion exchange. The location of the final deal, though, is nearly as remarkable as the pace with which it came about.
According to anonymous sources pinned down by Automotive News Europe, before the meeting, the two sides were meeting in Detroit as recently as December 19, which is where Fiat made one of its final revised offers. Naturally, the VEBA made a counter offer, which led Marchionne to initiate the Vero Beach meeting.

This 1958 Chrysler Imperial Ultra 7 Pointer 1 is Japan's Batmobile

Sun, 02 Mar 2014

It might be sacrilegious to admit among some auto enthusiasts, but there's more to driving than performance and speed. Sometimes it can be a matter of love, as it is for Yasushi Shiroi, who has spent the last 21 years building a faithful replica of a car from a '60s Japanese sci-fi show.
Shiroi's car is the star of the latest video from The Aficionauto and it's truly a labor of love. This machine, which is sort of like a Japanese Batmobile, is based on a 1958 Chrysler Imperial and is designed to recreate a car called the Pointer 1 from the series Ultra 7. The latter was apparently hugely popular when it ran in Japan in 1967 and 1968, and told the story a seven-member team that fought off aliens attacking Earth. While the car in the series never actually ran, Shiroi wanted one that would.
The Pointer 1 has been in constant development since Shiroi has owned it. All of the body modifications have been done in steel, but mechanically, it remains something of a mess. This replica might be slow - and to many people, ugly - but it has brought its owner about as much happiness as a car can, and that's something worth celebrating. Scroll down to check it out.
