'55 Chrysler Newport 2dr Hard Top, Solid Southern Car, Original Cruise Vessel on 2040-cars
Fort Dodge, Iowa, United States
Chrome and Fins Fifties Cruise Vessel !!!!
(Actually This Car's Fins Are Chrome !!! )
1955 Chrysler, Windsor Deluxe, Newport, 2 Door Hardtop Coupe !!!
This is a rare example of a cool, good looking, good running, good driving and good riding Sporty Fifties 2 door hard top that is not a 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959 or 1960 Chevrolet Bel Air, an Impala, a Ford Fairlane, a Galaxie, a Buick Roadmaster, Century or Special, a Cadillac, a Pontiac, an Oldsmobile, a Dodge or even a Plymouth.
Few people even realize that Chrysler built anything but stodgy Grandpa four doors but they did !!! This Is A Very Pretty, Good Running, Drive To The Show Car !!!
I'm a hardcore car guy and a couple of years ago I had my '56 Ford Crown Victoria at the "Back To The Fifties" car show when I ran across this car. I found it a refreshing sight as there were literally 500 Tri-Five Chevys, GMs and Fords for every '55, '56 or '57 Mopar on the grounds. Of the 12,000 cars at the show only 3 were '55 or '56 Chrysler two door hardtops !!!
I could just picture it slammed to the ground on air bags with 18 and 20 inch Torque Thrust Five Spokes and low profile rubber slithering through the Fairgrounds traffic. Within 30 minutes I convinced the owner he should sell it to me and rescue me from the boring "Belly-button" cars everybody else had at the show. I made a deal with a guy from Sweden that wanted my Crown Vic and I came home with a very coooool Chrysler. THIS OLD GIRL IS A LOOKER !!!
Once I had the car home I realized how nice and solid it was. In short I could not make myself cut it up into a hot rod. I have left it alone and enjoyed driving it just exactly as I bought it. It's power steering, automatic transmission and over-all comfort make my Wife and Daughter as eager to drive it as I am. I've had fun but have now decided to pass it on to another lucky person to drive, enjoy or build into the hot rod of my dreams. Here are the details; I'm not going to try to write a description like " there is a 7/8 inch long scratch on the Drivers door 3 inches from the door handle at a 37 degree angle to the right". That is as ridiculous as it is impossible to do. I'm also not going to try to hide anything.....this is an old car that has been driven since it was done. It is what it is. It looks good. It runs good. The paint is smooth and shiny. The body is straight. The chrome glistens. BODY- This is a Southern car that came from Alabama. I believe I'm the 3rd owner. The sheet metal is straight and solid. The floors are solid with the exception of one spot near the right front body mount, the mount is solid but the floor has a small hole there but honestly it is not big enough to worry about fixing unless you are trying to make a show car. The trunk floor is solid. The floor drops and inner rockers are solid. To me it looks like the car was undercoated when new and the bottom side has been cleaned but not painted or detailed as the car is meant to be a driver. The car appears solid to me and the repair work that was done was done well. THE BODY LOOKS GOOD !!! PAINT- The car has one professional Base coat/Clear coat Polyurethane repaint over the original paint. This car was born blue and white. The color is Sapphire Blue Metallic and is dazzling in the sun....almost looks like Candy Apple. The finish is smooth and shiny. The car has been water buffed and glazed and looks great. NICE PAINT !!! ENGINE- 301 Polysphere V-8 with automatic transmission and dual exhaust. I believe this is the original engine in the original condition. The car shows 41,829 miles which was represented to me as actual. Starts easily. Runs well. Doesn't smoke. Doesn't seem to drip oil. Has the typical Chrysler piston slap on cold starts that quiets down when it warms up. My 73 year old mechanic says this is no big deal and these engines did this when new. New belts, hoses, wires etc. RUNS GOOD !!! INTERIOR- Seats redone recently. Carpet is older. I believe the headliner and door panels are original. Interior chrome, dash chrome and crank handles are very good. CHROME- Fifties cars need good chrome and this one has it. The chrome is definitely one of this cars strong points. The Front and Rear Bumpers and Bumper Guards and the Grill have been re-chromed at great expense. The rest of the chrome and stainless trim is original and looks REALLY nice. The Hood Bird is EXCELLENT as are the window frames. The rear Chrysler Coat of Arms Badge has some blisters. GLASS- All good. No cracks. FRAME and SUSPENSION- Frame is solid. New brake Cylinders, shoes and hoses. TIRES and WHEELS- Near new radial tires and Chrome Reversed Wheels. ELECTRICAL- New street rod type fuse box and wiring harness. CONVERTED TO 12 VOLTS with a modern Alternator. OTHER STUFF- Factory Power Steering. Factory Town and Country Wonder Bar Signal Seeking Radio works but needs to be run on secondary battery in the trunk as it is 6-Volt Positive Ground. I took out the trunk battery and disconnected it. Horns toot. Wipers wipe. Blinkers blink. Heater works, Clock and Gas Gauge don't. It's not a perfect car but it's not a perfect car price either. Leave it as it is and enjoy it or spend a few Saturday afternoons doing improvement projects on it. It is a NEAT OLD CAR !!! That's about it. I've tried to describe the car well and hope I didn't miss anything. Please call if you have questions. Cool Can't Be Beat and Cruisers Are HOT !!! THIS CAR IS BOTH !!! If you don't believe me, TRY TAKING THIS SWEETIE TO A CAR SHOW AND WATCH THE PEOPLE WALK PAST THE '57 CHEVY CONVERTIBLES TO LOOK THIS CAR OVER !!!
You Don't Have To Spend A $100,000 + To Have A Car People Will Admire !!! OR EVEN $20,000 !!!! This entire car will be sold for less than the cost of the body and paint and less than the cost of a used Kia !!!
This car is ready to go and have fun with, I Know 'cuz that's what I've been doing with it !!!
This car is ready to drive to the car show NOW !!! If you are not in the mood for a car show then simply: Drive it to work ! Drive it out to dinner ! Drive it out to the store ! Drive it to the Malt Shop for a burger, shake and fries ! SOUNDS FUN TO ME !!!!!!

Chrysler investigating complaints of vehicles with faulty power modules
Sun, 24 Aug 2014Chrysler owners are hopping mad after experiencing a series of electrical gremlins in some of the company's vehicles. Issues range from mere annoyances - windows rolling down and radios turning off of their own accord - to serious safety issues, with headlights that randomly shut off at night and cars that stall and refuse to start.
The issues are being blamed on the total integrated power module, which can cost up to $1,000 for customers to replace. This, of course, has led to a hefty batch of complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with 240 owners expressing their displeasure so far. Another site, CarComplaints.com, has registered over 300 complaints relating to the 2010 to 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango, alone, according to The New York Times.
Chrysler has acknowledged that it's investigating the complaints and is analyzing the faulty TIPMs, but that isn't quite enough for customers of the affected vehicles. The newspaper has snagged a few of the more harrowing tales with the electrically challenged Chrysler products, culled from the NHTSA complaints.
2015 Chrysler 300 looks to recapture its mojo in LA
Wed, 19 Nov 2014Chrysler's 300 sedan has never been a shrinking violet, but it arguably lost a bit of swagger when its second-generation model bowed. There was no way that an evolutionary design could ever upend the automotive establishment the way the original 2005 model did, but even so, something was clearly left on the table when the 2011 model bowed.
You don't have take our word for it - Chrysler knows it, too. Reflecting back upon the second-generation model's styling today, Ralph Gilles, Chrysler's senior vice president of design is refreshingly candid, telling Autoblog, "Our previous generation of leaders didn't understand the car very well, and kind of forced this front end on us." For 2015, Gilles and Co. have worked to recapture some of the 2005 design's lightning in a bottle. In Gilles' words, the brief for the refreshed 2015 model was to "give the car the attitude it deserves... up the attitude, up the presence."
Visually, the new 300 initially appears very similar to the current car, but closer inspection and side-by-side comparisons reveal countless changes, the most noticeable being a much larger front grille (by about 30 percent), redone light fixtures and a 'Mobius-strip' lower fascia that picks up where the new 200 left off. The cabin has been upgraded, too, with a standard seven-inch display in the gauge cluster, the latest UConnect infotainment system and improved material choices.
Chrysler set to make $266M-investment into 8-speed transmission production
Wed, Dec 10 2014Chrysler will shortly make a significant $266-million investment into its Kokomo, IN transmission factory in a bid to expand production of its eight-speed automatic transmissions. The gearboxes, which are built under license from Germany's ZF Friedrichshafen, have been well received by customers and critics, and according to an SEC filing obtained by Automotive News, the transmissions will eventually find their way to all of Chrysler's rear-drive offerings (Viper and heavy-duty Ram models, aside). According to AN, a Chrysler spokesman says the investment has not been confirmed, but once it is, it'll mark the company's latest in a growing line of investments at the facility. Chrysler has poured $1.5 billion into Kokomo since 2009.
