1955 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe Convertible RARE RARE
Up for auction is a 1955 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe Convertible with a 331 Hemi engine. Only 946 New Yorker convertibles were produced in 1955. Very few of this year and model remain. According to an internet post a few years ago, only 15 exist worldwide. The car has been owned and stored by me under cover for the last 25 years. This is the same model and color that Ernest Hemmingway ordered and imported to Cuba in 1955. This one is Vin #5539793. The paint code on the data plate is 48, body Desert Sand with a Black spear insert. The interior is Navajo Orange and Desert Sand. The seats were reupholstered in vinyl sometime in the past. Presently, the car is painted in gray epoxy primer. It is a running car with a Chrysler Firepower 331 cu. in. Hemi. serial # NE5548844. I believe this to be the original engine. It is equipped with a four barrel carburetor and dual exhausts. The engine starts and runs smoothly and can be driven onto a trailer or flatbed truck. The gas tank has been restored and installed. The brakes are not functional and need rebuilding. The emergency brake is functional and will allow the car to be moved and stopped. The power top, power windows and power seat are not electrically connected. All wiring is present. While needing a full restoration, the car is complete except for a few missing items such as hood ornament, horn ring and button, top boot cover and radio antenna. Body work required includes right rear quarter panel(see picture), a 6"x6" cut out located behind the right side convertible top hydraulic cylinder which needs a patch. The spare tire well has a rust through. Included with the car is a usable spare tire well. The frame and cross members are in excellent condition. A body support(outrigger) requires replacement. The interior floors, trunk, door and doorjambs are in good solid condition. All glass is present. A front bumper piece containing the parking lamps will need to be attached. All pieces are included. The odometer reads 09107, actual mileage unknown. All four tires hold air. This is an opportunity to own and restore an exceptional and very desirable rare mid-fifties Chrysler convertible. Don't miss this one. HAPPY BIDDING!! Items sold by me are used, old, as is, where is. No guarantees are expressed or implied. PLEASE ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING. DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU INTEND TO BUY. This is an auction format with NO BUY IT NOW. The winning bidder is totally responsible for pick up and shipping. Nothing moves until funds clear. No separate agreements. This is an Ebay auction. There is NO State of Maine title. Maine is a non-title state for these vintage vehicles. A notarized bill of sale will be provided. I will accept Paypal for a $500 deposit which is required within 48 hours after close of auction. The balance to be paid by a United States certified bank check or electronic wire transfer. Car to be picked up by winning bidder within 30 days after close of auction.

NHTSA investigating power modules on Chrysler Group SUVs and minivans
Mon, 29 Sep 2014The Center for Auto Safety is officially petitioning the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to begin scrutinizing alleged problems with the totally integrated power module (TIPM) on about 24 Chrysler Group SUVs and minivans. The advocacy group claims that the part's failure can cause affected vehicles to stall or not start at all. NHTSA is still looking into the accusations and deciding whether a full investigation is actually warranted.
The CAS petition claims at least 70 TIPM failures, but according to NHTSA, six of the complaints are for models that don't have the modules. In 34 of the reported cases, the vehicles refused to start, and in 17 of them the engine stalled. There were also two allegations of smoke and one of a fire. However, none of these affected airbag deployment or resulted in a crash.
This petition isn't the first TIPM-related problem for Chrysler Group. A recent report in the New York Times alleged that it found 240 complaints potentially related to the issue on NHTSA's website alone. In September, the automaker also recalled 230,760 examples worldwide (188,723 in the US) of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango replace the fuel pump relay circuit inside of the TIPM-7 with one external to the unit. The original part could allegedly cause the models to stall without warning. Even earlier, the company also recalled about 80,000 examples of the Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Nitro in 2007 to have the module reprogrammed.
Catching up with Chrysler's EV catch-up plan
Tue, Sep 16 2014At your home or office? Those are the key words for how Chrysler and its Fiat affiliate want to narrow the plug-in vehicle sales gap between themselves and more plug-in-centric companies like Nissan and Ford, according Wards Auto. When the gap will narrow is anyone's guess. The US automaker, long a laggard in electric-powertrain development, is working on an wireless, inductive charging system with Qualcomm and which could spur sales of plug-in vehicles for personal use. A wireless system would allow for hands-free charging for vehicles like the Fiat 500e, the company's only plug-in vehicle being sold to the public in the US as well as a plug-in hybrid minivan that's in the works for 2016. On the business front, Chrysler is working with nonprofit NextEnergy on developing a reverse-power-flow system. That would allow for fleet-owning businesses to draw power from their plug-in vehicles' batteries during mid-day peak-energy times, when electricity rates are highest. Chrysler and NextEnergy ran a one-month test of a reverse-power-flow system with four Fiat 500e vehicles last year, and the companies found that they could cut power usage enough to save $1,200. Chrysler extrapolated those numbers to estimate that such a system with just a dozen plug-in vehicles could save a company as much as $27,000 a year. Get more details over at Wards Auto. Chrysler 200 prototype spied for first time with new body
Tue, 17 Sep 2013Chrysler is deep into testing for its next-generation 200 sedan, a new model that is utterly essential to the brand's continued health. The next iteration is tasked with wiping away anything reminiscent of the Sebring, which the current 200 is still based on. According to our spy, this is one of the first of the new 200s to wear a production body rather than the Alfa Romeo Giulietta-based mules that are thick on the ground in Auburn Hills.
Immediately apparent is that the new 200 ditches the awkwardly styled C-pillar that's typified four-door 200 sedans (and Sebrings before them) for years. The new, sleeker roofline is almost more of a four-door coupe than a traditional sedan, which hints that this new car will try to be more fashion-forward than its predecessor. The rear deck is set off by a sporty decklid spoiler, while a set of staggered rectangular exhaust pipes poke out of the bumper.
The front end appears sleeker, and we'd be lying if we didn't spy a bit of Dart through the camouflage, particularly with the headlights. A large, gaping lower air intake is visible, although our spy seems to think it'll shrink before production models debut. Whatever the new 200 ends up looking like, we expect to see a lot more of its styling from Chrysler in the coming years.
