1974 Chrysler Imperial Lebaron on 2040-cars
Anahuac, Texas, United States
I purchased this car on ebay in June of 2007 from Indianapolis Indiana and drove it home to the Houston, TX area. I bought this car because of the great memories I had with my last '74 Imperial. It really is a pleasure to drive. According to the previous owner, this car was sold new at Tom O'Brien Chrysler Plymouth in Indianapolis and remained in the garage of the original owner in the small town of Needham until 2003. A Derby car guy had it for a short time and then listed it on Ebay in December 2003 when the previous owner purchased it. He had it from 90,000 miles through 106,130 miles. The previous owner kept good service records. I have receipts for service records. At some point he had the exhaust dualed out with flow master mufflers installed. After I purchased it that was one of my first items to address. I don't think a luxury car should sound like a race car so I had the mufflers replaced with regular high flow ones. It is not as quiet as from the factory because I didn't put resonators on it, but it sounds nicer than the flow masters. At the time I purchased it, the A/C was not functioning. The hoses were leaking and I had the hoses rebuilt in Tulsa, OK on the way back to Houston, while staying with a friend. At that time I installed a new compressor and clutch, expansion valve, and bought a new filter/drier. The condenser had powder in it from the drier, so I ordered a new one online and installed that once I got home. I didn't like the factory radio, so I installed a newer Chrysler factory Infinity radio with cassette and CD and Infinity speakers. No wiring was cut and I am including the original and a spare factory radio if you want to easily convert it back. The power antenna has stopped working also. Factory jack and lug wrench are like new. Headliner has two spots that are torn a little. The front windows work but the rear ones don't. The motors work, but the plastic gears in the motors break and it is a relatively easy fix. I recently saw the parts online for about $15 each. I purchased 5 new American Classic tires with the correct width whitewall and put them inside the car for a few days until I had time to get them installed. Some of the black from the tires bled through the protective plastic they were wrapped in, onto the rear seats, headrests and armrests. After seeing this, I turned my back on this car and didn't do anything else to it for about 4 years. I just washed the blue protective coating off the tires for the pictures. I have only put 1579 miles on this car since I bought it a little over 7 years ago and about 1050 of those miles were from Indianapolis to Houston via Tulsa, OK. The tires have less than 500 miles on them. The steering wheel has a crack at the top and the bottom, but the "rim blow" horn still works. I am including many extra parts to include: extra wheel cover, Auto Temp control module, Auto Temp II amplifier module and control head, factory rear window defrost with factory wiring harness and switch, extra dash panel, many extra door pull strap inserts, 2 radios, extra window motor, extra front turn signal lens, front passenger seat side panels to convert to electric (no wiring, switch, or seat frame with motors). The transmission has a leak but works fine. I have finally accepted the fact that I just don't have time for all of my classic cars and need to sell some. I have a 1991 Imperial for sale also and soon a 2004 Volvo V70 will be listed.

Strike looms for FCA workers as soon as Wednesday night
Wed, Oct 7 2015A strike is on the very near horizon for at least some United Auto Workers members at FCA US. On October 6, the union sent a letter to the automaker that officially announced the termination of its agreements with the company as of 11:59 PM on Wednesday, October 7. Assuming that a deal or extension hasn't happened by that time, workers could hit the picket line. While neither side is talking much publicly, it does appear that negotiations are still underway. In a very brief statement, the automaker simply says: "FCA US confirms that it has received strike notification from the UAW. The Company continues to work with the UAW in a constructive manner to reach a new agreement." The UAW seems equally receptive, and it says in a post on Facebook: "Negotiations with FCA continue. Your bargaining team is hard at work and we will continue to post updates when there is more to report." If a strike happens, it could put a serious financial burden on FCA US. Economist Sean McAlinden from the Center for Automotive Research estimates the cost at as much as $40 million per week, according to Reuters. The union hasn't clarified at this time whether all of its workers with the automaker would stop working or if the picket lines would only be at specific plants. The first tentative agreement posted to UAW members working with FCA US utterly failed in voting. Raises and a healthcare co-op would have been among the new benefits. However, the employees were upset that the proposed deal retained a two-tier wage structure, and they also didn't like the lack of details about rumors of major production changes.
Marchionne: Maserati to ‘switch all of its portfolio to electrification’
Tue, Aug 1 2017After 2019, all Maseratis will be electrified, according to FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne. It's part of a larger electrification strategy from FCA as a whole, which intends to have half of its fleet electrified by the end of its five-year plan through 2022, Marchionne said. On an earnings call last week, he said: I'll give you a couple of broad sort of indications of where we are today in terms of the delineation of the post 2018 FCA. The first one and I've mentioned this in passing and other occasions about the fact that there's nothing that will prevent an OEM from engaging in the type of development work that Tesla has done so far. We have been – as you well know, we have been reluctant to embrace that avenue until we saw a clear – a path forward. I think we're now in a position to acknowledge at least one of our brands and in particular Maserati will, when it completes the development of its next two models effectively switch all of its portfolio to electrification. It's especially significant because of FCA's feet-dragging when it comes to offering hybrid and electric vehicles. As it currently stands, Fiat offers the 500e – of which Sergio Marchionne has said "I hope you don't buy it" because the company loses money on them — and Chrysler offers the Pacifica Hybrid minivan, which experienced significant launch delays. While diesel is an important part of the emissions strategy for 2020 standards in Europe, Marchionne said he thinks the current situation leaves diesel in a "weaker state" as a solution. Hence the electrification push. He said, "I think what has really made the issue absolutely mandatory now is the fate of diesel and the fact that it's actually the inclusion of, especially in Europe, of some type of electrification on gas engines is inevitable." In the short term, at least, it will put pressure on prices. Though Marchionne said he's "encouraged" by the direction of battery costs, he said, "I still think that there's going to be a huge increase in prices in 2021, 2022. If effectively the electrification becomes as widespread as people expect, there has to be a shift in pricing." He also says that FCA has no intention of making its own batteries. "Given the level of knowledge and depth of that knowledge that sits with other people in the industry, what right do I have to enter that space? None." We already know what the first two plug-in vehicles from Maserati will likely be. The company plans to launch an all-electric Alfieri in 2020.
Dodge Grand Caravan to live in fleets through 2017
Mon, Jun 22 2015After a hard-working career of hauling around families for decades, the Dodge Grand Caravan name was set to retire in 2016 under FCA's five-year plan for the US. The decision would have put all of the automaker's focus behind the next-generation Chrysler Town & Country, but that original strategy might have changed. Now, Dodge's minivan may have to work just a few more years before it can finally shuffle off. There are set to be 2016 and 2017 model year examples of the current Grand Caravan, according to an internal FCA production document obtained by Automotive News. This report suggests no changes in the minivan between those two years, and there's no mention of the company's intentions deeper into the future. "While we've announced the Grand Caravan will eventually be the minivan that goes away, we're not going into more detail at this time," a Dodge spokesperson said to AN. For the next Town & Country, production would start in Windsor, Ontario, in late February 2016. This document also suggests a brief run of 2016 Chrysler minivans based on the current model from August 2015 until February 2016. Automotive News speculates that the reprieve for the Grand Caravan could allow that model to focus on fleets and the Canadian market while the new Town and Country gets up and running. The latest generation T&C will reportedly debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show and will possibly carry a higher price to befit a vehicle with a more modern platform and improved tech.
