Extremely rare 1961 Chrysler Imperial Crown Coupe.  Car is originally from California and has a very nice body.  There is some minor surface rust and some rust in the floors and trunk that is substantial.  The frame is good and the body is good except for the bottom of the front passenger side fender is rusted at the bottom and there is rust through at the very bottom of the passenger side rear quarter panel.  I don't believe any of the panels need replacing, just small patches.  Still, it's a 52 year old car so look at the pictures and use your own judgment.  The car was nearly complete when I got it and I tracked down two additional tail lights because one was broken and a replacement drivers side door handle because it was broken as well.  I believe the ONLY part you need to chase is a new passenger side door window glass.  I'm already looking for one.  This car is an oustanding builder for an amazing custom hot rod project. The huge fins, floating headlights and tail lights, and the cool dash and steering wheel are all crazy cool right from the factory.  There are few of these cars left and finding one complete and with a good body is no small achievement.

The interior is fairly thrashed but complete with all door panels and seats. The front seat is power as are the windows..  The dash is decent with only two small cracks.  All glass is good except for the passenger side door window glass.  This is good news because windshields and rear windows sell for $500-1000 each apparently.  You won't need them for this car.   The original 413 is disassembled and in boxes.  It will not run.  The car rolls and steers and the tires hold air.  I will gladly work with international bidders as most finned cars I sell tend to go to Australia or Sweden anyway.  Just don't waste our time with fake Nigerian money orders and stupid stuff like that.
I'm only listing this car one time because I have no real desire to sell it but I'm working on a giant flying saucer that is getting completely out of hand so if I can fund the next stage of that, great.  If not, I'll keep making other money to fund it.  So if you want this car, act now because it won't be available again. .
THIS IS THE RIGHT WAY TO BUY A CAR.  ONE THAT IS COMPLETE, ARROW STRAIGHT AND HAS NEVER BEEN RESTORED OR HIDING THINGS.  WHEN YOU LOOK AT THIS CAR, YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU HAVE AND EVERYTHING IS THERE.

Fiat Chrysler will pay $70M to settle safety disclosure suit

Thu, Dec 10 2015

FCA US will pay a $70 million civil penalty to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for failing to submit Early Warning Report data going back to 2003. The automaker will also provide any missing data since that time, and an auditor will monitor future compliance. NHTSA says the failures to report this information "stem from problems in FCA's electronic system for monitoring and reporting safety data, including improper coding and failure to account for changes in brand names." There are no allegations of any intentional deception by the automaker. NHTSA will wrap up the latest fine with the previous consent order against FCA US earlier this year for the automaker's handling of 23 recalls. The company will know owe the safety regulator a total of $140 million in cash, and there will be possibility of $35 million more in deferred penalties if FCA doesn't comply with the agency's requests. In a statement about the fine to Autoblog, FCA US said the automaker "accepts these penalties and is revising its processes to ensure regulatory compliance." The company strongly believes that it didn't miss any safety problems over the time with this problem. Early Warning Reports include information on deaths, injuries, crashes, and other potential safety concerns, and NHTSA often uses the data in investigations for possible recalls. In September, the safety agency first announced the automaker failed to submit these documents. At the time, the regulator's administrator Mark Rosekind promised to "take appropriate action after gathering additional information on the scope and causes of this failure." FCA US also released a statement then about the lapse and said the company notified NHTSA immediately after discovering the problem. FCA US is not the first company to run afoul of NHTSA's reporting requirement. The agency fined Triumph Motorcycles and Honda this year for similar lapses. It also punished Ferrari in 2014. U.S. DOT Fines Fiat Chrysler $70 million for Failure to Provide Early Warning Report Data to NHTSA WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has imposed a $70 million civil penalty on Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) for the auto manufacturer's failure to report legally required safety data. The penalty follows FCA's admission in September that it had failed, over several years, to provide Early Warning Report data to NHTSA as required by the TREAD Act of 2000.

Marchionne uses racial epithet to describe what must power future Alfa Romeo models

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

Sergio Marchionne and his Fiat empire have a lot riding on the US return of the Alfa Romeo brand. The endeavor has been in progress for what feels like a lifetime - certainly for as long as Fiat has had the Chrysler brand under its Italian wing.
It's not surprising that Fiat CEO Marchionne needs a perfect first Alfa to mark a return to America. And here's where things get dicey. Nobody would argue with Marchionne's insistence that Alfa Romeo's be powered by Italian engines - as Marchionne himself is quoted to have said at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, "There are some things that are well done in Italy."
If not what he said, then, it's how he said it that has eyebrows raised. "I cannot come up with a schlock product, I just won't. I won't put an American engine into that car. With all due respect to my American friends, it needs to be a wop engine." Wait, what's that?

NHTSA investigating power modules on Chrysler Group SUVs and minivans

Mon, 29 Sep 2014

The Center for Auto Safety is officially petitioning the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to begin scrutinizing alleged problems with the totally integrated power module (TIPM) on about 24 Chrysler Group SUVs and minivans. The advocacy group claims that the part's failure can cause affected vehicles to stall or not start at all. NHTSA is still looking into the accusations and deciding whether a full investigation is actually warranted.
The CAS petition claims at least 70 TIPM failures, but according to NHTSA, six of the complaints are for models that don't have the modules. In 34 of the reported cases, the vehicles refused to start, and in 17 of them the engine stalled. There were also two allegations of smoke and one of a fire. However, none of these affected airbag deployment or resulted in a crash.
This petition isn't the first TIPM-related problem for Chrysler Group. A recent report in the New York Times alleged that it found 240 complaints potentially related to the issue on NHTSA's website alone. In September, the automaker also recalled 230,760 examples worldwide (188,723 in the US) of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango replace the fuel pump relay circuit inside of the TIPM-7 with one external to the unit. The original part could allegedly cause the models to stall without warning. Even earlier, the company also recalled about 80,000 examples of the Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Nitro in 2007 to have the module reprogrammed.
