Summary

You are bidding on a 1994 Chrysler Concorde. It has been priced low with no reserve, in other words, it's priced to move! The vehicle was purchased used by my father in 2005 (I believe he was the second owner). It has been in our family ever since.

The the car was used as a daily driver until the Fall of 2013, when my brother upgraded to a more fuel-efficient vehicle with lower miles.  It has been a good car for our family, so bid now and make it a good car for yours!

My policy when selling is to be as honest as possible, so the buyer knows exactly what is being purchased. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

With over 209,000 miles on a 20 year-old vehicle, a share of mechanical/cosmetic issues is not to be unexpected. Please consult the abbreviated list below, and read on for further details (on issues with asterisks).

The Good

- Driven Daily from 2005-2013

- New-er brake pads/rotors (installed in 2011)

- Good tires with plenty of tread left

- Air conditioning works well

- Power windows / power locks

- Remote unlock / remote trunk

- Power driver's seat works (up/down forward/backward)

- Smoke-free interior

- Exterior very clean

The Bad

- Visible corrosion on battery*

- Intermittently runs roughly / dies at idle**

- "Check Engine" and "ABS" lights stay on***

- Steering pulls slightly to one side****

- Power driver's back adjustment control stuck

- Cruise control works intermittently (~50% of the time)

- Power adjust driver's seat only works partially

- Power adjust for passenger side window not working

- AM/FM Radio / cassette deck not working

- Hood struts worn out

The Ugly

- Rust hole on trunk, covered by duct tape

- Very small crack in windshield

- Minor coffee stains on interior

- Passenger side mirror held on by duct tape

- Exterior lining coming loose on driver's side rear door (does not affect door opening/closing)

- Interior lining coming loose beneath glove compartment (does not affect utility of compartment)

- Bracket for driver's side visor broken (visor still works fine)

Details

*This problem has only occurred since we parked the vehicle last Fall (after my brother upgraded vehicles). When he was driving it daily it did not have any problems starting. Once jump started, the car will run, however, the battery is getting old and there is visible corrosion, which leads us to believe it may need to be replaced.

**This has been the largest issue with the car. At idle, it runs roughly and occasionally dies. It never left my brother stranded (it would start again after one or two tries). However, it was a bit of an inconvenience, especially with city driving.  It also occasionally runs roughly while accelerating up to 40-50 MPH, then starts to smooth out at highway speeds. This has been an intermittent issue over the last 12 months or so. Basically, it runs roughly at times, smoothly at others.  Perhaps this is a fuel delivery issue?  We have not had this problem looked into, since the car is getting up there in years, and it still did a good job of taking my brother where he needed to go.

***The check engine light is mostly likely the result of the aforementioned problems with the car running roughly. The ABS light is more of a mystery. We are not sure what is wrong. The car tends to brake a bit hard, although effectively. As mentioned, it has new-er pads and rotors, so perhaps the problem is with the ABS?

****This has not been a major issue, at least not enough to cause significant tire wear or cause other alignment issues.

Again I would like to state that I've been as honest as possible in describing this vehicle.  Any omission of problems/defects is purely accidental. Again, if you have any questions, contact me and I will answer them to the best of my knowledge.

This car is sold AS IS, WHERE IS, with no warranty.

FCA's shifter fiasco proves novel gear selectors are a bad idea

Tue, Feb 9 2016

What's wrong with PRNDL? Why are automakers trying to overly complicate the simple task of selecting gears? If there's any lesson to learn from the recent news that NHTSA is investigating 853,000 Fiat Chrysler vehicles over its problematic gear selectors, it's that the trend of fancy shifters needs to stop. Now. Last year, NHTSA opened an investigation into Jeep Grand Cherokee models, and has now expanded this probe to include the 2012-14 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger. The problem? The shifter – assembled by ZF – is confusing for many drivers. "Testing ... indicates that operation of the (electronic) shifter is not intuitive and provides poor tactile and visual feedback to the driver, increasing the potential for unintended gear selection," a NHTSA document states. More than 100 crashes and over a dozen injuries are linked to this problem, according to The Detroit Free Press. To us, the problem isn't just limited to FCA. These unnecessarily novel gear selectors are spreading like wildfire across the industry. Honda and Acura use a weird pushbutton setup. Lincolns have buttons on the dashboard. Jaguar's shifter electronically raises out of the center console. Mercedes uses a stalk with up-for-Reverse, down-for-Drive, push-for-Neutral arrangement. And what the hell is BMW thinking with its M cars? FCA has since abandoned the confusing shifters in question. The 300, Charger, and Grand Cherokee now use the rotary shift dial that's quickly proliferating across the company's brands. Simplistic gear selectors might not be sexy, but no one ever complained about not being able to find the right gear in a Hyundai Sonata. What's most interesting is that this NHTSA investigation could push FCA – and possibly other automakers – to redesign vehicle functions that otherwise operate as designed. Just because most people will never have a problem putting a Dodge Charger in Reverse doesn't mean there isn't a flaw with the design. But perhaps a more simplistic solution – good ol' PRNDL – would have prevented these issues from the start. Fiat Chrysler exec talks up the future of fuel cells

Fri, Jul 31 2015

When it comes to a belief in the viability of electric vehicles, you can put automotive folks like Nissan's Carlos Ghosn and Tesla Motors' Elon Musk on one side of the proverbial wall and Fiat Chrysler Chief Technology Officer Harald Wester on the other. Because while the two former executives are staking much of their companies' respective future on plug-in electric drivetrain technology, Wester sees no such future in it at all, according to an interview in Motor Trend. Oh, sure, the Fiat Chrysler technology chief does give the idea of an electrified powertrain some quarter, saying he sees standard hybrids as a solution for the "intermediate" future in addressing both higher gas prices and need to meet progressively more stringent European greenhouse gas-emissions standards. But Wester, who also oversees Fiat Chrysler's Alfa Romeo and Maserati brands, ultimately views hydrogen fuel-cell technology as the way to go for advanced powertrains and minimal emissions. As for battery-electric vehicles? Wester pretty much shoots them, citing everything from a typical EV battery's weight to the challenge of finding electric recharging stations to the fact that much of the electricity needed for those cars is produced via CO2-emitting sources. He forgot to say anything about the CO2 required to bring gasoline or hydrogen to market. Wester's "bah humbug" is actually pretty consistent with the company's party line. Last year, Fiat Chrysler head honcho Sergio Marchionne, in an interview, famously told the general public not to buy the Fiat 500e electric vehicle. That's because he estimated that the company takes a $14,000 loss on each unit sold of Fiat Chrysler's only production EV. Volkswagen Routan dead one last time

Wed, 25 Sep 2013

Volkswagen halted production of the Routan minivan in late 2012 due to low sales volume, but there were reports swirling around that it would live on and continue production alongside the closely related Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan. But now VW says that it will indeed stop Routan production for good, The Detroit Bureau reports.
As of our report in March, VW hadn't built a single Routan in 2013, and we can't imagine things have gotten much better for the minivan since then. The Detroit Bureau reports that VW produced some 2014 Routans, but they aren't for sale to the public - they are fleet-only affairs.
VW originally intended to sell between 45,000 and 50,000 Routans per year, but since it was introduced for the 2009 model year, annual sales of the minivan have averaged only 11,500 units. VW has sold 57,683 Routans total.
