FCA US under-reported death and injury claims to NHTSA

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says FCA US significantly under-reported death and injury claims due to flaws in its early warning system. The government first discovered a potential problem with the automaker's reporting in late July, and FCA US has been investigating the issue since. NHTSA claims that the problem appears linked to the way the company gathers and reports safety information. The agency is still investigating how serious the flaws are and their causes. "This represents a significant failure to meet a manufacturer's safety responsibilities," NHTSA Administrator Mark Rosekind.Rosekind said in a statement. FCA US admits that it "identified deficiencies" in the reporting, but in a statement the company said that it notified NHTSA of the issue immediately. The company promised that it is taking this problem "extremely seriously" and pledged to remedy the situation. In late July, FCA US was hit with a potential $105-million fine by NHTSA for the way the automaker conducted some recalls. As part of that agreement, the company also consented to more rigorous oversight by safety regulators in the future and a buy-back of some affected vehicles. Other automakers have been punished for failing to submit EWR data. Honda incurred a $70 million fine in January from NHTSA for missing 1,729 incidents over 11 years. Ferrari had to pay $3.5 million in 2014 for not sending them in for three years. Preliminary information suggests that this under-reporting is the result of a number of problems with FCA's systems for gathering and reporting EWR data. This represents a significant failure to meet a manufacturer's safety responsibilities. Chrysler 200 configurator already online

A preliminary configurator for the 2015 Chrysler 200 is already up and greeting Internet visitors. The totally re-envisioned sedan that we got to know in our Deep Dive starts with an LX base trim for $22,695, which comes out to an MSRP of $21,700 plus $995 for destination. That number will get you entry to a party that comes with keyless entry, ambient LED lighting inside, a five-inch Uconnect touschcreen system with Bluetooth, a six-speaker stereo, eight-way power driver's seat, safety features like brake assist and an electronic parking brake and eighteen-inch wheels on all-season tires.
The features list isn't yet broken down by model, but including destination, the other three trims retail for $24,250 for the Limited, $25,990 for the S and $26,990 for the C. All-wheel drive adds $4,200 on the S and the C.
You can build an LX pretty quickly because there aren't many options. There are two interior choices, black or black/linen, five exterior color options, and just two choices after that: you can opt for the $495 five-inch Uconnect system that adds features like voice command and a rearview mirror with a microphone, and an engine block heater for $95.

2013 Dodge Dart gets all Moparized

Last year, Chrysler announced it would be offering more than 150 Mopar parts and accessories on the 2013 Dodge Dart, and we got a look at some of these parts firsthand at the Chicago Auto Show. Showing off all the optional parts at once would surely create a gaudy monstrosity, so Chrysler chose to equip this particular Dart GT with just a handful of Mopar goodies, which still gave the car a nice and tasteful custom look that is available straight from the dealership (and with a full warranty, too).
Decked out in a factory color called Header Orange Clear Coat - also a very appropriate show car hue - this car added exterior styling parts such as the vented, carbon fiber hood, the bolt-on front chin spoiler and a matte black decklid spoiler. Looking inside the car, you'd think the red-accented interior is part of the Mopar parts bin, too, but this is actually what the standard Dart GT cabin will look like when it goes on sale.
