1979 Chrysler Cordoba (((one Owner Time Capsule--52,000 Actual Miles))) on 2040-cars
Omaha, Nebraska, United States
READ THIS ONE CAREFULLY IT'S A VERY COOL STORY....much like a "barn find" but stored in a garage since 1991.
Bought new at Baxter Chrysler-Plymouth in Omaha, Nebraska in the fall of 1978, the Chrysler was carefully driven until the purchase of the "new car" in 1991, an Olds 98. But the beloved Chrysler wasn't traded it was parked in the elderly couple's single car garage and covered up with blankets...LOTS of blankets!!! Fast forward the spring of 2014. Mr. M**** passed away leaving the beloved and beautiful Cordoba still covered under all those blankets. This is where I came in, purchasing the car from the estate. A new battery and some fresh gas the car fired right up!! Backed it from the garage and YES the "new car" '91 Olds right there in the driveway too!! The Olds NEVER saw the garage in 23 years there was only room for one...the beloved Cordoba......... The elderly couple kept EVERY single piece of documentation. Including the factory window sticker, the original bill of sale showing a 1966 "Pontiac 2-door" being traded in on the Chrysler. Even service coupons and promotions from Baxter's Chrysler were kept neatly with ALL the other paperwork. And the warranty booklet and owners manual and alot more!! All of these items AND a new Nebraska title stating ACTUAL MILES on the face!! Not an exempt title..it's an ACTUAL mile title!! The car is in MINT condition. NEVER rusted, damaged or repainted. The car you see in the pictures has not been detailed, just lightly cleaned. The ONLY cosmetic issues are as follows: A few and I mean very few stone chips on the nose of the car near the headlights. On the door panels, the plastic is discolored for some reason. My guess is that there was a cleaner used that didn't agree with it causing this sometime in the past. The car was undercoated AND rust proofed when new. The interior is in otherwise excellent condition. No rips or tears, perfect glass, carpet AND headliner. WHAT A TIME CAPSULE!! Mechanically it starts instantly and runs smoothly EVEN with the Lean Burn System still functioning. The 360 V8 2-barrell doesn't miss a beat. The transmission shifts as it should nice and smooth. The car has power steering and power brakes that stop the car nice and smooth. Tilt wheel and cruise control that works perfectly. Even a power driver's seat!! Oddly, the car was a radio delete but a $79. AM radio was added by the dealer. The car was ordered with a Sure-grip rear end but no remote or "sport" mirror was ordered. The factory AC blows ICE COLD. The tires look good but it's unknown how old they are. To sum it up...this is one of those "ONCE IN A LIFE TIME" cars that just don't come along all that often. The reserve is a fair one but I'm NOT giving the car away. So...bid with confidence and bid to own it!! If you have ANY questions about the car give me a call anytime for an HONEST discussion about the car. I just want to stress what a fantastic find this car really is!! I'm Tom and my number is 402-650-3849 OK...the fine print. The winning bidder to send a $1000. non-refundable deposit via Paypal 48 hours end of auction. The balance to be paid within 7 days with certified bank checks, bank to bank wire transfer, or cash when you pick the car up. The car is safe and sound in a climate controlled building and can stay there until it's picked up. Also, if you choose to drive it home I'd be happy to pick you up at the airport. I can also suggest a local transporter that I've personally used for years. Shipping is the buyer's responsibility and expense. READ MY AD CAREFULLY and call with any questions Thanks Tom |

Marchionne urges industry consolidation, again
Fri, May 29 2015Sergio Marchionne isn't just an instigator of mergers – he's also a staunch advocate for their need in the industry. And he seems convinced another big one will happen in the next few years. "I am absolutely certain that before 2018 there will be a merger," said Marchionne. "It's my personal opinion, based on a gut feeling." Though the terms "absolutely certain" and "gut feeling" would seem to convey vastly different degrees of certainty, his chief's statement would seem to suggest some inside knowledge of an impending deal. Marchionne, of course, brokered the consolidation of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles empire over which he now presides, and has been actively seeking another merger to help reduce redundancy and overhead between major automakers in the industry. With which automaker he might be seeking such a merger, however, remains a big question. He was recently reported to have approached Mary Barra regarding a potential merger with General Motors, but was said to have been rebuffed. The Italian-Canadian executive may not be alone in his advocacy for industry consolidation, though. Opel chief Karl-Thomas Neumann said that "In principle, Marchionne is right – the auto industry develops the same things ten times over." Bringing major automakers together would ostensibly reduce that redundancy. Marchionne had been linked to a potential takeover of Opel when GM was shedding brands post-bankruptcy, but in the end the Detroit giant opted to keep its European division in-house.
Would you pay $17 a month to give your older Ford connectivity?
Fri, Mar 30 2018When it was first introduced in 2007, there was nothing like the original Ford Sync system, since it allowed car owners to connect and use a portable device better than anything that came before it. And because it was a brought-in/tethered and software-based system, Sync leveraged a device's connectivity and was easily updated. It took competitors awhile to catch up: Toyota Entune wasn't available until 2011, and Chevy MyLink didn't roll out until 2012. But now Ford is the one playing catchup since it stuck with the brought-in strategy while most other automakers were quicker to add connectivity via an embedded cellular modem. Ford initially installed 2G/3G modems in its small fleet of electric and plug-in electric vehicles starting in 2012 so that owners could keep tabs on charging. Embedded connectivity came to Lincoln in 2014, and Ford began adding onboard 4G LTE via Sync Connect to select cars starting with the Escape in 2015. To get more cars connected more quickly, last week the automaker rolled out its FordPass SmartLink solution that plugs into the OBD port of 2010 to 2017 model year vehicles. This lets owners retroactively get onboard Wi-Fi, set up a "geo-fence" to keep tabs on a car's location, receive vehicle health reports and allows remote engine starting and door locking/unlocking using a smartphone app, among other features. But to connect older Ford vehicles will cost owners $16.99 a month for two years, not including installation. Ford throws in 1 GB of data or a 30-day trial, whichever comes first, after which owners have to add the vehicle to their Verizon shared data plan, which supplies connectivity for SmartLink, or establish a new account. (Disclosure: Autoblog is owned by Verizon.) By comparison, GM's 4G LTE data plans start at $10 a month for 200 MB and goes up to $30 for 3 GB, and owners can also add a car to an AT&T shared-data plan. But OnStar doesn't have a separate monthly subscription for the embedded modem or an installation charge, and standard features via the RemoteLink Mobile App are free for the first five years of ownership. FCA's Uconnect Access service also uses an embedded modem to provide similar telematics features for $20 per month following a free one-year trial, while a la carte in-car Wi-Fi is offered for $10 per day, $20 per week or $35 per month.
Stellantis reports surprising 2020 results, is 'off to a flying start'
Wed, Mar 3 2021MILAN — Low global car inventories and cost cuts should boost Stellantis's profit margins this year, though a shortage of semiconductors and investments in electric vehicles could weigh on results, the newly-formed automaker said on Wednesday. The forecast came as Stellantis, created by the January merger of Peugeot-maker PSA and Fiat Chrysler (FCA), reported better-than-expected results for 2020 that sent its shares up around 3% in morning trading. "Stellantis gets off to a flying start and is fully focused on achieving the full promised synergies (from the merger)," Chief Executive Carlos Tavares said in a statement. Stellantis is the world's fourth largest carmaker, with 14 brands including Fiat, Peugeot, Opel, Jeep, Ram and Maserati. It said 2021 results should be helped by three new high-margin Jeep vehicles in North America and a strong pricing environment there. The U.S. market has driven profits for years at FCA and starts off as the strongest part of Stellantis. The group's guidance assumes no more significant lockdowns caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic, which shuttered auto plants around the world last spring. Stellantis should also get a lift as its starts to implement a plan aimed at delivering over 5 billion euros a year in savings, without closing any plants. Tavares has also pledged not to cut jobs. But a pandemic-related global shortage of semiconductors, used for everything from maximizing engine fuel economy to driver-assistance features, could hurt business. Auto industry executives have said the shortage should ease by the second half of 2021. Stellantis said its "electrification offensive" could also weigh on results this year. Automakers are racing to develop electric vehicles to meet tighter CO2 emissions targets in Europe and this week Volvo joined a growing number of carmakers aiming for a fully-electric line-up by 2030. Stellantis plans to have fully-electric or hybrid versions of all of its vehicles available in Europe by 2025, broadly in line with plans at top rivals such as Volkswagen and Renault-Nissan, although Stellantis has further to go to meet that goal. The carmaker is targeting an adjusted operating profit margin of 5.5%-7.5% this year. That compares with a 5.3% aggregated margin last year: 4.3% at FCA and 7.1% at PSA excluding a controlling stake in parts maker Faurecia, which is set to be spun-off from Stellantis shortly.
