CAR IS IN FLORIDA, FORT LAUDERDALE AREA

============================================================

WHERE DO I BEGIN. OKAY.

This is the history of this car:

1. The car belonged to my brother. He passed away in November 2012.

2.  Because I knew he had put over $2,000 into the mechanics of the car, I bought the car from the estate.I felt that although it was 20 years old, my brother put a lot of money into it.

3.  After I bought the car in March, I had it professionally detailed inside, and paid $200 for a new headliner including visors and $60 for new hydraulics for the hood, so the hood stays up.  Also the wiper blades are new.  A total of $400

4.   The trunk is clean and all the lining is tight, perfectly in place as originally.

5. The trunk lining looks like new. (just slightly soiled)

6. The carpet inside and the back seat and passenger seat look relatively new.

7. Regarding the upholstery, just the drivers seatneeds repair.

8. The tires are in good condition and will be good for a while.

9. After driving one block, all the doors do automatically lock.

10. The outside lights work, all the signals work.

11. The driver power window switch works all windows to put them down, but you need to use the switches on the passenger side to get them back up.

12.I brought the car to a mechanic to disconnect the alarmand to see the reason the seats don't move back and forth easily. I don't know what he did, but after he did whatever he did under the seat, suddenly, many things that were working perfectly now don't work.

13.Ice cold a/c, Gas gauge, power door-lock switch, power mirrors, radio, wipers, were all working perfectly and now they are not.

14. I brought it to 2 auto electric businesses and was told that I need a body computer or module. Apparently that part affects all these items, although one of the businesses said it does not affect the gas gauge. Being that all these items stopped working at the very same time, I think that the body computer works the gas gauge too. It is too coincidental.

15. It needs a paint job, seriously.

16. Some Bondo patch is needed at the left rear bumper, and there are break-away holes where the fenders meet the hood near the windshield.

So, what do we have here. A really pleasant looking interior, that looks almost new. All necessary items work for the car to function except the windshield wipers.

If you need wheels to get back and forth, this car should serve you very well for the price. Remember, when you can do better for yourself, you can always sell it, and at least get $500 from a junk yard.

17. The car had low milage for a car 20 years old, (you can tell by the carpet and upholstery other than one edge of the driver's seat).Unfortunately, the odometer broke, so it cannot be verified. However it was owned by a senior citizen rarely driving at age 78, and not well, since 2004.

So, to sum up; mechanically under the hood over $2000 was spent. Then we put in about $400, since March 2013.    No problem with the engine. The car runs good. Normally for this price you get a real piece of junk.   This car is NOT.  This is a really good car.  It just needs a little help.  Uh-oh.  Just brought it in for new brakes.  Couldn't get one of the lug nuts off.   So brakes have not been checked.  Mechanic leaned on the car and an additional piece on the right front fender broke away.  (I have the piece.)  Mechanic said it needs a new rack and pinion.  You wouldn't know it, because it drives perfectly well with no problems at all, and I did not get a second opinion. I lowered the price down because of this rack and pinion needing repair in the future.  The car should last you quite a while as is.  </strong></p>

Feds fretting over remote hack of Jeep Cherokee

Fri, Jul 24 2015

A cyber-security gap that allowed for the remote hacking of a Jeep Cherokee has federal officials concerned. An associate administrator with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Thursday that news of the breach conducted by researchers Chris Valasek and Charlie Miller had "floated around the entire federal government." "The Homeland Security folks sent out broadcasts that, 'Here's an issue that needs to be addressed,'" said Nathaniel Beuse, an associate administrator with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Valasek and Miller commandeered remote control of the Cherokee through a security flaw in the cellular connection to the car's Uconnect infotainment system. From his Pittsburgh home, Valasek manipulated critical safety inputs, such as transmission function, on Miller's Jeep as he drove along a highway near St. Louis, MO. The scope of the remote breach is believed to be the first of its kind. The prominent cyber-security researchers needed no prior access to the vehicle to perform the hack, and the scope of the remote breach is believed to be the first of its kind. A NHTSA spokesperson said the agency's cyber-security staff members are "putting their expertise to work assessing this threat and the response, and we will take action if we determine it's necessary to protect safety." A Homeland Security spokesperson referred questions about the hack to Chrysler. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has already been the subject of a federal hearing this month, in which officials scrutinized whether the company had adequately fixed recalled vehicles and repeatedly failed to notify the government about defects. But cyber-security concerns are a new and different species for the regulatory agency. Only hours before the Jeep hack was announced by Wired magazine earlier this week, NHTSA administrator Dr. Mark Rosekind said hacking vulnerabilities were a threat to privacy, safety, and the public's trust with new connected and autonomous technologies that allow vehicles to communicate. NHTSA outlined its response to the cyber-security challenges facing the industry in a report issued Tuesday. In it, the agency summarized its best practices for thwarting attacks and said it will analyze possible real-time infiltration responses. But the agency's ability to handle hackers may only go so far.

UAW reveals more details for tentative FCA deal

Sun, Oct 11 2015

Around 40,000 union workers employed by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles have a new proposed contract to vote for or against just about a week after soundly rejecting a previous proposal. Like the contract that was rejected, this new proposal was negotiated between union leadership and management at FCA. If workers vote this time to accept the contract, negotiations are likely to begin in earnest with the other two big American automakers, Ford and General Motors. The biggest sticking points that kept the previous contract proposal from being ratified revolved around so-called second-tier UAW workers. Under the rejected contract, there wasn't a clear path in place that would bring these newer hires into wage parity with first-tier workers. The newly proposed contract, however, would have second-tier employees earning around $29 per hour – the same as first-tier workers – after eight years of employment. A slightly revised profit-sharing plan is also included, as is a larger signing bonus for first-tier workers. Gone from the new contract proposal is a health-care cooperative that would combine workers from all three Detroit-based automakers into one pool. While this action had the potential to lower health-care costs for UAW members, it wasn't universally understood by rank-and-file workers, said UAW President Dennis Williams. "I was a little naive," he said. "I really thought everyone understood it. It is my fault. I should have educated people more on it. And so we did take it out of the agreement." If ratified, this new contract will go into effect immediately and will cover a four-year period. Over that course of time, the UAW expects FCA to increase its employment figures by a little more than 100 workers, according to reports. Additional details on the contract can be seen on the UAW's website here. Strains between France and Italy risk Renault-FCA merger

Thu, May 30 2019

PARIS/ROME — Fiat Chrysler's proposed $35 billion merger with Renault has cheered investors, won conditional support from Paris and Rome and even earned cautious backing from trade unions. Beneath this veneer, however, the bold attempt to create the world's third-largest carmaker risks becoming rapidly embroiled in the fraught relationship between France's europhile President Emmanuel Macron and Italy's euroskeptic leaders. For while Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini hailed the proposal as a "brilliant operation," Italy's creaking, state-subsidized Fiat factories are likely to bear the brunt of any production-related cost savings. FCA and Renault said this week that more than 5 billion euros ($5.6 billion) of annual savings would come mainly from combining platforms, consolidating powertrain and electrification investments and the benefits of increased scale. Salvini and France's Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire, who called the deal a "good opportunity" to build a European industrial champion able to compete with China and the United States, have both said they want guarantees on local jobs. "It's not every day that I agree with Salvini," said Le Maire, whose government appears to hold the trump cards. When it comes to where any job cuts fall, France will be helped by its existing 15 percent holding in Renault, whose superior efficiency at its five French plants makes it better placed to handle a supply glut, the demise of the petrol engine and the investments needed for electric and autonomous vehicles. "It will take many, many years to find real savings, and ugly political and operational realities can often swamp the potential of such new entities," Bernstein analyst Max Warburton said of the FCA-Renault plan to rival Japan's Toyota and Germany's Volkswagen. Advantage France? As well as Italy's government having to cope with the aftermath of European elections, which coincided with news of the FCA-Renault plans, political leaders in Rome were only informed shortly before the deal was made public, an FCA source said. This contrasted with the way the French government was treated, with Fiat Chrysler Chairman John Elkann, a fluent French speaker, letting it know of his merger proposal to Renault weeks ago, a French government official said.
