BEST CAR I EVER OWNED, RUNS GREAT, RELIABLE.  LOTS OF LIFE LEFT IN THIS BABY.  HIGHWAY MILES. NO ACCIDENTS OR MAJOR REPAIRS.  ORIGINAL OWNER. FULLY LOADED.  BOSE SPEAKERS. PASSED INSPECTION IN OCTOBER.  LOTS OF NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR CONSISTENT WITH AGE OF VEHICLE.  NORMAL OIL CHANGES AND MAINTENANCE.  LOTS OF LIFE LEFT ON THE RUBBER.  INSTALLED NEW BATTERY LAST FALL.  MUST BE PICKED UP OR BUYER ARRANGE AND PAY FOR DELIVERY SERVICE.  SOLD "AS-IS", NO RETURNS.  CALL FOR A TEST DRIVE 914-213-5376.  ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING.

HERE IS A FAIR ASSESSMENT OF THINGS I'D LIKE TO NOTE ABOUT CONDITION:

  • This car has one of the first navigation systems that runs on a CD.  Sometimes it sticks but resetting the CD works.
  • The front and rear bumpers have a lot of puck marks from road stones and have many little rust spots that should be touched up or painted.
  • There is one small dent under the driver side rear quarter window, see photo.
  • There are two small dents in the rear bumper on the driver side, see photo.
  • There are several stains in the carpets, especially in the far rear.
  • One of the driver side power seat buttons works but the plastic button is broken.
  • The rear passenger side seat belt sticks and doesn't always rewind.
  • The sound on the entertainment DVD unit is not working.
  • Sometimes the passenger side door light stay on but resets when the door opens and closes.
  • Wheel tire pressure sensors were removed so little icon on dash stays on.

I will add anything else that comes up before the end of sale, but for now this is everything I can think of.

NON-SMOKER!

Why the Corvette is Chevrolet's billion-dollar baby

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Edmunds has worked up a piece that tries to figure out just how much the global Chevrolet Corvette economy is worth, a spitballed guesstimate putting the number at more than $2.5 billion with the proviso that the number is probably low. It starts by taking Corvette's new car sales of 14,132 units last year, which would equate to $714,725,900 (including destination) assuming ever car sold was a base coupe with no options. In the final tally, a little extra padding gets that number up to $750,000,000.
But that's not all. Consider this: Many of the almost 1.4 million Corvettes produced over the model's history are still on the road. There are new parts being produced and aftermarket companies like Mid-America Motorworks deaing business, that single Illinois company doing more than $40 million a year in sales. There are the Corvette events large and small, restorers who do nothing but Corvettes, salvage yards that deal only in used Corvette parts and the Corvette magazines where owners find all this stuff.
And then there are the Corvette-themed tchotchkes, every single one of which provides a tiny contribution to the huge licensing royalties that General Motors collects every year. The article admits there's no way to come to an accurate number, but it just goes to show how valuable one specific model can be to a company.

800k car names trademarked globally, suddenly alphanumerics seem reasonable

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

What's in a name? This cliched phrase probably gets tossed out at every marketing meeting that happens when a new car gets its nomenclature. We know the answer, though: everything. The name of a car has all the potential to make or break it with fickle customers that are more conscious than ever about what their purchases say about them.
That's giving headaches to marketing folks across the automotive industry. "It's tough. In 1985 there were about 75,000 names trademarked in the automotive space. Today there are 800,000," Chevrolet's head of marketing, Russ Clark, told Automotive News. Infiniti's president, Johan de Nysschen, echoed Clark's sentiment, saying, "The truth of the matter is, across the world, there is hardly a name or a letter that hasn't already been claimed by one car manufacturer or another. You can go through the alphabet - A, B, C and so forth - and you will quickly see that almost all available letters are taken."
What has that left automakers to do? Get creative. In the case of Infiniti, it made the controversial move to bring all of its cars' names into a new scheme, classifying them as Q#0 for cars and QX#0 for SUVs and crossovers. So the Infiniti G, which was available as the G25 and G37, is now the Q50. The FX37 and FX50 are now the QX70.

GM recalling 118K Colorado, Canyon pickups over missing hood latches

Thu, 20 Dec 2012

General Motors has announced a recall of 118,800 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks due to the possibility of secondary hood latches not being installed at the time of manufacture. The affected vehicles are from the 2010, 2011 and 2012 model years, all of which were built between November 9, 2009 and August 28, 2012.
According to the official National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report, these trucks fail to "comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 113, 'Hood Latch System.' The hood may be missing the secondary hood latch." In other words, owners of these trucks could find their vehicles' hoods opening unexpectedly while driving.
The official recall campaign is expected to begin on January 17, 2013. Dealers will inspect the affected pickups and if a secondary hood latch is not present, one will be installed free of charge. Scroll down to read the official NHTSA report.
