 1957 GMC PANEL WAGON

Saved this from a scrap yard here in Mississippi. Appears to have been in Mississippi for quite a long time as the license plate lists a local county but no longer has any paint on it. I am not extremely well educated on these models, but it appears to be a 99% original GMC panel wagon. Straight 6 and a manual 4 speed. Engine was switched from generator to alternator. Since the panel wagon came from the factory with solid sides, I believe the windows were added later in it's life. However, the work was very well done. Windows slide down to open and move freely. Body is extremely straight and solid considering the year and circumstances (found in a scrap yard) with the obvious exception of the driver side door. Appears to be original paint...possibly Coronado Yellow. Areas of rust through are shown in pics along with drivers side step-up is completely gone (pic shown from below). Wood and slide rails in rear appear to be original and in solid condition. Front floor pans have been repaired - again pretty good work. Frame is original, unmolested and in great condition. Only non-original parts appear to be alternator, rear windows, floor pan patch and bench seat. Tires hold air...this is a free rolling truck.

Motor and trans are both locked up solid. No brakes.

Since I got it from a scrap yard, obviously no paperwork...sold with Bill of Sale. If you need one, I can get an expedited title (10-12 business days) for $100 extra. Just notify me if this is the case.

I am glad to answer any questions to the best of my ability. $500 non-refundable deposit due within 48 hours of end of auction. I reserve the right to end the auction early as truck is for sale locally as well. If you want to work out a deal, I can be reached on my cell phone - 205-789-7528.

Hot Wheels Camaro to make big debut at Indy

Fri, 05 Apr 2013

Chevrolet handed over the keys to 33 Hot Wheels Camaro Convertible Indianapolis 500 festival cars this week. Race directors get the luxury of driving the droptops around Indianapolis in an ongoing tradition with roots all the way back to the 1960s. The stunt is supposed to remind area residents that the Indy 500 is right around the corner. The cars are our first look at the special Camaro Hot Wheels Edition in convertible form, and they are slated to head to dealers after a one-time production run. The cars also represent the first time in history full-size Hot Wheels have been offered for sale by an automaker.
The cars will be available in both the previously seen coupe bodystyle and this convertible configuration, and will feature metallic blue paint and special wheels with the iconic redline accent. Buyers will be able to choose between the V6-powered 2LT trim and the V8-powered 2SS guise.
Hot Wheels says the original Custom Camaro toy was one of the original 16 1:64-scale diecasts, and it remains one of the company's most valuable collector items today.

NHTSA could add 1M cars to GM recall

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may expand a recall campaign for faulty brake lamps. The agency is currently looking into complaints that certain 2004-2011 Chevrolet Malibu models as well as some 2007-2009 Saturn Aura sedans may have brake lights that do not illuminate when the driver presses the pedal. Alternatively, the lamps may also illuminate without input from the driver. General Motors recalled 8,000 Pontiac G6 models from the 2005 model year for the same problem, and NHTSA is currently investigating whether to add 550,000 more G6 models built between 2005 and 2009 to the list for the same issue.
In addition, investigators are currently examining 97 complaints from Malibu and Aura owners with the same trouble. If NHTSA adds those models to the recall campaign, more than one million units could be covered. GM, meanwhile, says there have been no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.

Vert-A-Pac train cars kept your Chevy Vega's price in check

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

Our apologies to those who've seen this before, but for the rest of the class, how awesome are these pictures of the Vert-A-Pac shipping system General Motors came up with to ship the Chevrolet Vega back in the 1970s? Developed along with Southern Pacific Railroad, GM was able to double the amount of Vega models it could ship by packing them into the unique storage cars vertically.
At the time, rail cars could fit 15 vehicles each, but Chevrolet was able to lower shipping costs by making it possible to ship 30 Vegas per rail car, in turn allowing the price of the Vega to remain as low as possible. Each rail car had 30 doors that would fold down so that a Vega could be strapped on, and then a forklift would come along and lift the door into place. All the cars were positioned nose down, and since they were shipped with all of their required fluids, certain aspects had to be designed specifically for this type of shipping, including an oil baffle in the engine, a special battery and even a repositioned windshield washer reservoir. See for yourself in our image gallery above.
