Up for auction is my 1997 Chevrolet 1500 Suburban with the 6.5L diesel.  This truck has 235,076 miles on it.  I have owned this truck since 11/07  It starts right up and runs good.  It smokes when you first start it up when its cold out.  The transmission shifts well with no slippage.   I installed a remote located PMD  when I bought this truck and have had no issues with it since.  The PMD also has a #9 resistor installed. It has 2 strong heavy duty batteries.  I installed a new hydro-brake booster 18 months ago along with a new starter.  It has 4 matching Kumho Road Venture SAT tires with 50% tread life left mounted on GM aluminum rims.  The truck was aligned when I put the tires on back in 2010.  It is a very nice riding 'Burb.

The interior is in nice shape.  The exterior is in decent shape.  The paint still shines nice when it's clean, but it is rusting on the passenger rear quarter, the barn doors, and on the rockers.  It does have dings and scratches. It also has a dent on the front passenger fender on the top, close to where it meets the hood.

The driver side, rear door does not lock.  The A/C was fixed 3 years ago but the high pressure line under the hood blew out.  I never repaired that line so it doesn't work.  The blower fan knob is getting a little touchy.  The cd player doesn't read discs. The power steering pump might be getting weak.  Sometimes the hydrobooster doesn't get the pressure it needs and the brake pedal will push hard. The engine leaks oil and fuel.  The barn doors leak when it rains hard in a certain direction.  I still have not been able to find out where it is getting in.  The carpet in the back has been removed because of it.  We just laid a blanket down in place of it.  The wastegate on the turbo has a vacuum leak and causes the check engine light to come on for awhile, go out, and then come back on whenever it feels like it.  The Service throttle soon light has come on several times and sent the truck into an idle mode.  You shut the truck off and restart it again and away it goes.  I replaced the app sensor in the pedal.  That seemed to work for about 10 months, but it started doing it again.  There is no rhyme or reason when it acts up.  I think there may be a ghost in the computer or something. I've tried to describe everything I can about this truck.  If you have any questions or want pictures of something specific, please don't hesitate to ask me.  If you are close and want to come test drive it let me know.  I tried to describe everything as accurately as I could.  This is sold-as-is with no warranty.

We drove this 'burb up until this week when we upgraded to a newer Yukon.

This is pick-up only, no delivery.  Thanks for looking and Happy Bidding!

GM laying off 500 workers to slow Chevy Sonic production

Sat, Oct 24 2015

Due to slow sales of the Chevrolet Sonic and Buick Verano, General Motors is cutting a shift at the Orion Township plant that builds the pair. The move lays off about 500 workers, but most of them are expected to get offers to transfer to other factories, Automotive News reports. The move came just a day after GM announced adding 1,200 employees to the Detroit-Hamtramck plant. GM has been trying all year at the Orion Township factory to align production of the Sonic and Verano with their demand. The automaker first attempted idling the plant several times and eventually resorted to laying off about 100 workers. It also reduced the production rate there. With the huge rise in popularity of crossovers, demand for the plant's small cars is on the downturn. According to Automotive News, there's currently a 116-day supply of Sonics and 100 days of Veranos to sell. Delivers tell a similar tale because the Chevy is off 35.2 percent from January to September, and the Buick does little better with a 27.2 percent drop from the same period last year. While the situation at Orion Township might look rough now, big things are on the horizon. Soon, the new Chevy Bolt electric vehicle will be built there when it hits the market around 2017. Plus, the plant will also get a $245-million upgrade and 300 new jobs for another, unannounced vehicle.

The Volt Dance had precedent; meet the Chevy Footlockers

Sun, Dec 14 2014

Marketing in the auto industry can get weird sometimes – really quite bizarre, in fact. For example, remember the Chevy Volt dance from the 2009 Los Angles Auto Show? If not, a group boogied to a song about the electric car, and it was every bit as awkward (and hilarious) as that sounds. In fact, that innocent bit of promotion lives in infamy, as some pundits grabbed hold of it during General Motors' bailout and asked why America's tax dollars were going to such things. The Chicago Auto Show has been digging through its vault of vintage videos, and it has come up with something that might actually be worse than that Volt-themed routine. They're called the Chevy Footlockers, and they're a dance troupe somehow promoting the Cavalier at the 1988 Chicago show. The connection between the car and their routine is unclear, but it's gloriously cheesy in a Chippendales-meets-AC Slater sort of way. Also, there are props towards the end, but we aren't going to spoil them for you, because you just have to watch for yourself. As a bonus, there's another (brief) clip below showing a female dance group with the Geo Tracker at the '91 Chicago show, and they sing, too. Scroll down to watch both of these oddities. GM reintroduces Tripower name in the worst way possible

Wed, Aug 1 2018

The story of General Motors' use of the Tripower moniker begins way back in 1957, when Semon E. "Bunkie" Knudsen, then General Manager of GM's Pontiac division, directed his engineers to inject more performance into his brand's line of V8-powered automobiles. Fuel injection was an option, but hot rodders flocked instead to Tri-Power (marketed way back when with a hyphen), which grafted a trio of two-barrel Rochester carburetors onto a single intake manifold. A legend was born. And that legend was born of performance. At idle and when full power wasn't required, Pontiac's Tri-Power system used just the middle carburetor, which helped make the setup easier to tune. Depending on the year and model, either a vacuum system or a mechanical linkage opened up the two outer carbs, thereby switching from two barrels to six, and allowing the engine to take in more fuel and air. And it was an easy marketing win – six barrels is better than four barrels, right? Because performance! So, when news filtered in that GM has resurrected the Tripower name, those of us who grew up attending classic car shows and wrenching on old Pontiacs did a double-take. And then we all collectively sighed. Turns out that today's Tripower refers to a trio of fuel-saving measures that include cylinder deactivation, active thermal management, and intake valve lift control, according to Automotive News. And, at least for now, it applies to GM's line of fullsize trucks powered by a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. We're all for saving fuel whenever possible. And we have zero say in how any automaker chooses to market its products and technologies. But, we'll offer our two cents anyway: Relaunching a storied name from the past is fine. Relaunching a storied name from the past while completely overlooking the reasons the name got famous in the first place is only going to irritate the people who remember the name in the first place. Couldn't they just call this new technology package something else?
