In the Fall of 1991 Fred and Bonnie were on their way back from their home in Oregon to their winter home in Phoenix, AZ. The stopped at the one of the casinos in Las Vegas as it was their custom to do. They did a little gambling and lo and behold if Bonnie didn't strike it rich winning a $17,000 jackpot. They cashed out and on the rest of the drive they talked about how they wanted to spend their money. They decided to buy an new car and stopped at Brown and Brown Chevrolet in Phoenix and bought this Suburban you are looking at today. Fred passed away two years ago and Grandma Bonnie (as the family called her) finally decided to sell their beloved Suburban. It was lovingly maintained over the years and Fred kept a log book that goes with the car. It was used gently over the years and it was kept in the garage in Oregon and under the carport when it was in Phoenix. The last 8 years it stayed at the Phoenix home as they spent more and more time there as they got older. It hasn't had much driving time over the past few years and it is ready for a new adventure as it has a ton of life left in the old girl. I will detail the condition of the car below.
INTERIOR: The interior on this car is in as mint of condition as I have seen in this vintage of car. The seats show little to no wear. The carpet also shows little to no wear. Dash is in great shape as are all the door panels. The pictures don't do the interior of the car justice. No pets and no smokers through it's life. Everything works as it should including power windows, power door locks, power mirrors (rare option), cruise control, original AM/FM cassette player/clock, all interior lights including overhead console map lights, front/rear AC (front is cool, rear is ice cold), heater, blinkers and gauges (except temp gauge and I am currently looking into that). The third row seat is not original to this car. Fred did not want the third seat because he wanted more room in the cargo area so he literally took it out at the dealership and left it with the dealer! I found an exact match third row seat in Nebraska that someone had had in storage since new and it was never used. Like I said, it is a perfect match but it does show some minor wear from being in storage along the rear of the seat as the seat was stored in the folded up position. Overall it is a very nice seat. All the seat belts and trim pieces in the car are in incredible condition. This is the Silverado package and it is loaded and smooth and comfortable. Center console and glove box lock with the original key. The headliner is in great condition but in a few small areas it looks like it is starting to sag just a little.
EXTERIOR: The Suburban is wearing all of it's original paint and it shines very nicely. This car has not been detailed or buffed, it is just the way I purchased it from the original owner. Grandma Bonnie didn't drive the Suburban much after Fred passed away but it was parked in a narrow garage and she did put some scratches on the car and light creases in the metal as she tried to work in the garage with her gardening equipment etc.(see pics). Her son-in-law tried to touch up some of the damaged areas (which are minor), but when you get up close you can see the touched up areas. The left rear tail light lost a piece of its chrome trim and Fred put some silicone along that area as he must have thought water would get into the tail light. You can order a new tail light from online vendors if you wanted to replace this. You will see brackets up on the top of the suburban. Fred had a small fishing boat that he would take out occassionally and had a special rack made that would automatically load and unload the boat on top of the suburban. The rack is still up at the Oregon home and I spoke with the son-in-law and he said they would be willing to ship the rack to the buyer if interested. The brackets are bolted in with stainless bolts that could easily be removed. The top of the surburban is in excellent shape in case you were worried about that boat being on top over the years as I was. No dents, scratches or rust on top. There is no rust anywere on this rig, it is super solid and clean. All exterior lights work well and lenses are clear and clean. The original running boards are inexcellent shape as are the original rally wheels and caps. To summarize the exterior I would say it is in very good shape with a few scapes and dings but nothing major. It is not MINT like the interior but still very nice.
MECHANICAL: This rig is in supurb mechanical condition and I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere in the country. Brand new whitewall tires, new battery, new front brakes and new rotors, no leaks of any kind and does not burn or use any fluids. The 5.7 L V8 fires right up and runs very smooth. The automatic transmission shifts perfectly and does have the overdrive function. No funny noises or rattles. Drives very smoothly tracking and stopping straight and true. Just no mechanical issues at all. Has the big fuel tank for great range on the highway. Has the towing package with trailer brake installed. All power windows including the rear roll up and down very smooth and quickly.
SUMMARY: Just a really nice rig and just the way you want to find one with great history, single owner and well maintained. This was the last year of this body style so it will be highly collectable and is nearing that 25 year classic car status so this one will just continue to go up in value. The body is not perfect but certainly presentable and original. This would make any Suburban lover proud and would look really nice towing a classic car or race car. I did include one picture of what I had in mind when I bought the suburban but it would be hard to change this all original classic...they are getting hard to find in this condition. I do expect a $500 deposit via Paypal within 48 hours of the end of the auction. As always I am more than happy to pick up buyers at the Tucson airport if we can coordinate timing with my work schedule. Look at my feedback and the pictures and bid with CONFIDENCE!! I don't do this for a living, I just love old cars. Good luck!

Nissan Leaf sales double Chevy Volt to close out winning 2014
Mon, Jan 5 2015To close out the year, sales of the two most-popular plug-in vehicles in the US kept going in the direction that they had been all year. The Chevy Volt dropped and the Nissan Leaf had another record month. Sound familiar? The Volt sold 1,490 units in December, a year-to-year drop of 37.7 percent. For all of 2014, Volt sales were down 18.6 percent to just 18,805 (from 23,094 in 2013). On the Nissan side of the ledger, the Leaf sold 3,102 units, up 22.7 percent from the 2,529 sold in December 2013. For the year, Nissan sold 30,200 Leafs, up 33.6 percent from the 22,610 sold in 2013. A few other things to note: For every month in 2014, the Leaf sold more than it did for the same month in 2013. For the Volt, this was only true for three months (April, May and July). Funnily enough, the Volt sold exactly 1,478 units in both March 2013 and 2014. The Volt's 2014 total was lower than both 2013 and 2012, while the Leaf had its best year ever. There were three months in 2014 when people bought at least twice as many Leafs than bought a Volt (September, November, December). The Leaf outsold the Volt every month in 2014. The closest gap was 215 units, in February. The biggest was 1,612, in December. As you've most likely seen, GM is still busy teasing the new Volt, which will make its official debut at the Detroit Auto Show next week. We'll have a more in-depth green car sales post up soon. <iframe embedded="true" "="" scrolling="no" src="https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oIuH75vaSHaaplD4x6gLsYjSsiN4oGmez1T63eaYdhY/pubhtml?widget=true&headers=false" height="430"> Nissan celebrates 30,000 leaf sales in 2014, best year ever for sales of any plug-in vehicle NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 5, 2015) – Nissan, the world leader in electric vehicle sales, shattered yet another sales record with 30,200 LEAF vehicles sold in 2014, which is the first time any plug-in has sold more than 30,000 units in a single year. "Now in its fifth model year, Nissan LEAF is more popular than ever and continues to bring new buyers to Nissan," said Brendan Jones, director, Nissan Electric Vehicle Sales and Infrastructure. "From the beginning our vision was to bring electric vehicles to the mass market in a practical and fun-to-drive package, which is what makes Nissan LEAF the best-selling electric car in the world." Last month, Nissan sold 3,102 all-electric LEAFs, up 22.7 percent from the prior year and a December record.

Here are a few of our automotive guilty pleasures
Tue, Jun 23 2020It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. The world is full of cars, and just about as many of them are bad as are good. It's pretty easy to pick which fall into each category after giving them a thorough walkaround and, more important, driving them. But every once in a while, an automobile straddles the line somehow between good and bad — it may be hideously overpriced and therefore a marketplace failure, it may be stupid quick in a straight line but handles like a drunken noodle, or it may have an interior that looks like it was made of a mess of injection-molded Legos. Heck, maybe all three. Yet there's something special about some bad cars that actually makes them likable. The idea for this list came to me while I was browsing classified ads for cars within a few hundred miles of my house. I ran across a few oddballs and shared them with the rest of the team in our online chat room. It turns out several of us have a few automotive guilty pleasures that we're willing to admit to. We'll call a few of 'em out here. Feel free to share some of your own in the comments below. Dodge Neon SRT4 and Caliber SRT4: The Neon was a passably good and plucky little city car when it debuted for the 1995 model year. The Caliber, which replaced the aging Neon and sought to replace its friendly marketing campaign with something more sinister, was panned from the very outset for its cheap interior furnishings, but at least offered some decent utility with its hatchback shape. What the two little front-wheel-drive Dodge models have in common are their rip-roarin' SRT variants, each powered by turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines. Known for their propensity to light up their front tires under hard acceleration, the duo were legitimately quick and fun to drive with a fantastic turbo whoosh that called to mind the early days of turbo technology. — Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski Chevrolet HHR SS: Chevy's HHR SS came out early in my automotive journalism career, and I have fond memories of the press launch (and having dinner with Bob Lutz) that included plenty of tire-smoking hard launches and demonstrations of the manual transmission's no-lift shift feature. The 260-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder was and still is a spunky little engine that makes the retro-inspired HHR a fun little hot rod that works quite well as a fun little daily driver.
