2001 Silver Lincoln Town Car on 2040-cars
Charles Town, West Virginia, United States
This is a 2001 Lincoln Town Car, Signature series. Silver exterior
paint (factory silver) and the rare dark charcoal black interior. All
leather seats. Titanium top level wheels. The two front tires are only
about 4 months old, the back tires are in good shape. Full size spare in trunk in great shape. I replaced the
entire rear end differential about 6 months ago with one that had about
80K miles on it. It has been fine. I had the upper manifold assembly on
the top of the engine changed about 8 months ago. No leaks. Doesn't blow
oil (smoke). This has been a great dependable car for me for the past 3
1/2 years. It has high mileage 380K (mostly highway) but I have taken
great car of it along the way fixing most anything and everything as it was
needed. It has been a great running car. No accidents and no body
damage. Non-smoking driver.
I am selling this vehicle AS IS because there is an issue with the transmission that will need to be fixed if you plan to keep the car and drive it. The overdrive gear has stopped working. I looked into it and there are locally available transmissions from local junkyards for about $275-350 that will fit this car fine plus the labor to put it in. If you have a local shop, it's a pretty inexpensive repair to get the car fully operational and back running on the road in great condition. Like I said earlier, the engine is strong and runs great. This car is drivable but it really needs to have the transmission replaced or repaired as a priority. This is really just a great car for parts if you are looking in that direction. The wheels alone are worth quite a bit. All the body panels are in fine shape with no dents. The car is drivable, but is not going to be good for any kind of highway trip. You would best bring a flatbed or arrange for some type of car carrier or auto transport, unless you live close to the Washington DC area. |

GM recalls Chevy Express, GMC Savana over rollaway concern
Mon, 21 Jan 2013The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall notice for a small number of General Motors fullsize vans due to possible rollaway concerns. On certain 2013 Chevrolet Express and 2013 GMC Savana models, it is possible to remove the key from the ignition without the shifter being in park.
Only 980 total units are being affected by this recall, and GM is fixing the issue by replacing the ignition cylinder and associated keys. Affected Chevy vans were built during most of November and December while its GMC counterpart was only built for a week in November. The recall goes into effect on January 23, and to find out if your vehicle applies to the recall, the GM and NHTSA contact numbers can be found on the official recall notice, which is posted below.
GM, UAW poaching Nissan workers in Tennessee
Tue, Sep 8 2015General Motors and the United Auto Workers are going on a recruitment drive at the Spring Hill factory in Tennessee, and they're hoping to poach some skilled workers from Nissan's nearby plant in Smyrna, TN. The General and the union even bought a billboard advertising for industrial electricians near the Japanese automaker's facility, according to the Daily News Journal. The reason for the billboard was simple. "GM was short of electricians," said Tim Stannard, the president of the UAW local at Spring Hill, to the Daily News Journal. The factory currently builds the Chevrolet Equinox but has a contract to assemble the next generation of Ecotec engines and the Cadillac XT5, which replaces the SRX. Thanks to the $185-million deal, employment there is expected to double by May 2016, according to Stannard, with roughly 1,800 additional union jobs. Beyond just several billboards, GM has job postings online for the Spring Hill plant looking for workers with specific skills. There has already been some interest in the positions among Nissan employees, Stannard indicated. According to a recent study by the Center for Automotive Research, the average GM worker currently makes $58 an hour, including benefits. Comparatively, Nissan pays an average of $42 an hour with benefits. The General's number could change in the coming weeks because its contract with the UAW is about to expire, and higher wages are among the major negotiating points.
Detroit 3 to implement delayed unified towing standards for 2015
Tue, Feb 11 2014Car buyers have a responsibility to be well-informed consumers. That's not always a very simple task, but some guidelines are self-evident. If you live in a very snowy climate, you generally know a Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro might not be as viable a vehicle choice as an all-wheel drive Explorer or Traverse, for example. If you want a fuel-efficient car, it's generally a good idea to know the difference between a diesel and a hybrid. But what if it's kind of tough to be an informed consumer? What if the information you need is more difficult to come by, or worse, based on different standards for each vehicle? Well, in that case, you might be a truck shopper. For years, customers of light-duty pickups have had to suffer through different ratings of towing capacities for each brand. For 2015 model year trucks, though, that will no longer be a problem. According to Automotive News, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler Group have announced that starting with next year's models, a common standard will be used to measure towing capacity. The Detroit Three will join Toyota, which adopted the Society of Automotive Engineers' so-called SAE J2807 standards way back in 2011. The standard was originally supposed to be in place for MY2013, but concerns that it would lower the overall stated capacity for trucks led Detroit automakers to pass. Ford originally passed, claiming it'd wait until its new F-150 was launched to adopt the new standards, leading GM and Ram to follow suit. Nissan, meanwhile, has said it will adopt the new standards as its vehicles are updated, meaning the company's next-generation Titan should adhere to the same tow ratings as its competitors. While the adoption of SAE J2807 will be helpful for light-duty customers, those interested in bigger trucks will still be left with differing standards. There is no sign of the new tow standards being adopted for the heavy-duty market.
