2500 Silverado Duramax Diesel Work Truck Utility Bed on 2040-cars
Fort Myers, Florida, United States
This has been my personal truck that I drive to my daily job and side jobs on weekends that I have owned since January 2005. I bought this truck as I intended on going into business for myself as a marine diesel mechanic and added the Omaha tool bed that I bought new in 2006 and my job changed a little. I still drive the truck daily and back and forth to South Carolina a few times a year for work. I really do not want to get rid of this truck because it is paid for and I have had it for so long and know the history of it but I need a crew cab due to kids and have ordered a new truck. I tell you all this stuff because I want you to know what you are buying. The truck runs beautiful no smoke , no leaks and drives perfect just did a round trip to north Georgia 12 hours each way and would not hesitate to do it again. It has michellin LTX tires on it with good life with no plugs or patches in them, based on my first set they probably have 30,000 left in them. It has eagle 086 aluminum wheels that have clear cote imperfections and chrome lugnuts have surface rust on the chrome. Has a factory trailer hitch with trailer brakes and a new brake controller, I rented a trailer that had brakes and I had to buy a controller to rent the trailer, towed 10,000pounds to SC and got 15mpg doing 70 on the interstate. The engine had the injectors updated around 170,000 miles they were not bad but dealer diagnosed problem incorrectly and did them under the 200,000 mile injector warranty, high pressure fuel pump was bad so I replaced that at the same time. Water pump was replaced at 205,000 miles, rear u-joints have been replaced, all shocks were recently replaced and bumpstops replaced in front, drivers seat was reupholstered at local shop but I think the springs are broken causing the cushion to have sag in it. I rolled the truck over in a accident in 2005 and the insurance company would not total it instead they put a cab and bed on it, you really cannot tell but cab has a gold firewall the only thing that I could notice after repair. I had a rear end accident with it a few years ago and got a grapefruit size dent in the bumper so I bought a new one to replace it. I ordered the tool bed the way I wanted it with flip top boxes and the forward compartment goes the width of the bed, inside dimensions are 72"x48" I did this to keep large parts dry, I had diamond plate that lined the bed for protection but removed because a battery leaked in the back and ate a hole in the aluminum and caused rust underneath you can see in the pictures you could easily cut this out and weld a new piece of steel in or put a piece of plywood over it. I get 15mpg in the city and 20mpg on the highway if I keep it under 70mph. Rear axle seals have been recently replaced and I just had a solenoid go bad in the transmission so it got new fluid and filters replaced at the chevy dealer. I hope this detail of the repairs do not derail you but any truck with 245,000 miles is going to have repairs and I just want to be honest about what has been done, I am not a car dealer nor do I want to be one I really hate selling stuff because I want people to know what they are getting. If you have questions or want more pictures let me know send a message. Always have used shell rotella 15-40 oil , ac compressor is less than a year old and I put a new condenser in at the same time. Evaporator was changed after the injector repair as it got damaged during the process, heater works is not bypassed and does not leak, cruise control works, tow haul mode works it has manual windows, four wheel drive works and the rear end has the factory locker in it. Truck has a aftermarket JVC radio with Sirius satellite radio with a fresh 1 year subscription that I will leave in it. Steering wheel has chunk of foam missing so I put a cover on it. The bed came with only 2 holes cut on each side so I did not put in the back-up lights I wil include them with the sale along with all paperwork , spare parts and manuals I can find for it. It also takes fuel slow due to placement of fuel fill on the utility bed you just cant go wide open with the nozzle or it will spit back at you. take your time and fill slow and is fine, probably could be fixed easy but I got used to it. Antilock brake module is bad I had it repaired and it did not last you do not need it to drive the truck only needed fo abs to work. Air bag light is on and has been on since accident do not know if it needs to be reset or replaced. That's pretty much the entire history of the truck, repairs and minor issues, please do not let my honesty deter you away from this truck as it runs and drives perfect and all you need to do is put your tools in it and go to work |

Surprise! GM putting aluminum in next-gen pickups
Wed, Aug 5 2015Last month, General Motors launched a series of ads touting the benefits of steel over aluminum – specifically, with regard to the Chevy Silverado versus the Ford F-150. (Kind of. We're not sure what a grizzly bear has to do with anything.) We took issue with the ads, with editor in chief Mike Austin saying they "reek of insecurity, and distract from the Silverado's strengths that could be used for positive advertising." But what bothers us more, is that yet another report surfaced claiming anti-aluminum GM will indeed use the weight-saving material in its next-generation fullsize trucks. On Tuesday, GM announced a $877-million investment for its truck plant in Flint, MI. But Reuters says that huge overhaul is because the trucks will use "substantially different equipment than the tools GM uses today." The report specifically states, "People familiar with the company's plans say GM's next-generation pickups and SUVs will make use of various materials, including aluminum and lightweight steel, to shed weight and gain fuel efficiency to meet tougher federal standards." The Silverado already uses a few aluminum components in the engine and hood, and if more widespread use will help GM build its best fullsize trucks ever, then that's great. Honestly, we have no reason to doubt that aluminum will be used in the next Silverado and GMC Sierra. We just hope GM remembers that nothing is ever truly deleted from the bowels of the Internet when it launches the subsequent "look how great aluminum is!" campaign. Audi S4 drivers are the most accident-prone, insurance report says
Sun, Jun 25 2023Culling data from more than 4.6 million automobile insurance applications, researchers at the Insurify insurance comparison marketplace picked a winner — or more to the point, a loser — in its determination of the car model with the most accidents so far in 2023: the Audi S4. Why does the sporty, luxury-class German sedan rank so high (or so low)? The organization found that S4 drivers, piloting a car with almost 350 horsepower, are among those who collect the most speeding tickets, and that they get into accidents at a rate 54 percent higher than the national average. If the S4 isnÂ’t a surprise with an at-fault accident rate of 11.7 percent, consider the “family friendly” brand that appears three times on the Insurity list: Subaru. It is represented by three models, including the turbocharged WRX and XV Crosstrek, and at the better-performing bottom of the list, the Subaru Impreza, with an accident rate of 10.3 percent. In 2023, 7.6 percent of U.S. drivers were involved in at least one at-fault accident in the prior seven years. For drivers of cars on this list, the average at-fault accident rate was 10.5 percent, meaning these drivers are 1.4 times as likely to have an at-fault accident on record. According to its statement, the Insurity data science team explored key safety features, driver behavior, and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) evaluations to pinpoint possible reasons behind these carsÂ’ high accident rates. Following is the list, counting down to the models with most reported accidents: 10. Subaru Impreza (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.3 percent; MSRP base model): $19,795) 9. Kia Niro (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.4 percent; MSRP base model): $26,590) 8. Chevrolet Silverado LD (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.4%, MSRP base model): $34,500) 7. Subaru XV Crosstrek (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.5 percent, MSRP 6. Subaru WRX.(percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.7% MSRP base model): $29,605) 5. Toyota GR86 (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.8 percent MSRP base model): $29,900) 4. Hyundai Veloster N (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.9 percent; MSRP base model): $32,500) 3.
GM reintroduces Tripower name in the worst way possible
Wed, Aug 1 2018The story of General Motors' use of the Tripower moniker begins way back in 1957, when Semon E. "Bunkie" Knudsen, then General Manager of GM's Pontiac division, directed his engineers to inject more performance into his brand's line of V8-powered automobiles. Fuel injection was an option, but hot rodders flocked instead to Tri-Power (marketed way back when with a hyphen), which grafted a trio of two-barrel Rochester carburetors onto a single intake manifold. A legend was born. And that legend was born of performance. At idle and when full power wasn't required, Pontiac's Tri-Power system used just the middle carburetor, which helped make the setup easier to tune. Depending on the year and model, either a vacuum system or a mechanical linkage opened up the two outer carbs, thereby switching from two barrels to six, and allowing the engine to take in more fuel and air. And it was an easy marketing win – six barrels is better than four barrels, right? Because performance! So, when news filtered in that GM has resurrected the Tripower name, those of us who grew up attending classic car shows and wrenching on old Pontiacs did a double-take. And then we all collectively sighed. Turns out that today's Tripower refers to a trio of fuel-saving measures that include cylinder deactivation, active thermal management, and intake valve lift control, according to Automotive News. And, at least for now, it applies to GM's line of fullsize trucks powered by a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. We're all for saving fuel whenever possible. And we have zero say in how any automaker chooses to market its products and technologies. But, we'll offer our two cents anyway: Relaunching a storied name from the past is fine. Relaunching a storied name from the past while completely overlooking the reasons the name got famous in the first place is only going to irritate the people who remember the name in the first place. Couldn't they just call this new technology package something else?
