SELLER REMARKS |
|
Are trucks like this 1986 Chevrolet C1500 Silverado collectable? Well, we sure have a hard time keeping them in stock, and with a great color combination and some nice options, it's a low-cost way to own something out-of-the-ordinary. Does that appeal to you? Read on...
The short bed/regular cab setup gives any pickup a sporty demeanor, but these late-70s, early-80s Chevys have nailed the look. Even dressed in white, this one looks less like a working-class job-site fixture and more like something you'd want to drive every day. The cowl-induction hood undoubtedly helps with that attitude, but the clean lines of the original truck are easy to love. Aside from the hood, it appears that most of the paint on this truck is original and in excellent condition, with a shine that's appropriate to the era and none of the cracking and peeling that plagued other GM models. Silverado trim added some stainless along the flanks as well as chrome bumpers fore and aft, and the red pinstripe that matches the interior is a nice touch that moves the truck upscale. A spray-in bed-liner means this pickup is still ready, willing, and able to work although quite honestly, it looks like life's been pretty easy for this Chevy.
A red interior is a flashy and unusual choice in a working pickup, and the vinyl seat cover is a nice improvement over the usual GM mouse-fur upholstery of the period. Rubber mats protect the matching carpets and the original door panels are in remarkably good shape. This truck is nicely optioned with factory A/C, a tilt wheel, and a sliding rear window, so driving it is hardly a hardship. There's a full complement of gauges in the dash and they wrap around the driver much like a second-generation F-body's setup. And talk about not taking any liberties, even the original AM/FM radio is still in the dash, so the truck has a very untouched feeling about it that's refreshing. Tinted windows help with heat control and give it a great look, particularly with the white paint.
A 305 cubic inch V8 means that this relatively lightweight pickup is lively on the road and ready for anything you'd care to do, from mild to wild. Despite being one of the most modification-friendly engines of all time, this one remains pretty stock save for an open-element air cleaner atop the carburetor. Factory equipment ensures reliability and given that this one has had only three owners and plenty of factory-recommended maintenance, you shouldn't have any worries about getting in and turning the key. It's backed by an easy-cruising 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission, and with the twin Flowmasters burbling away out back, it's a pleasant highway cruiser that pulls down decent fuel economy, too. The underside isn't restored or deteriorated, but definitely looks stock with signs of regular maintenance visible throughout. Newer Rally wheels with trim rings and chrome centers look right on old Chevy iron and these carry fat 255/70/15 Bridgestone radials all around.
Even if you're just looking for an affordable, clean work truck, you have to admit this one's a bargain. But given how popular they are, I'm guessing that this truck won't last long on the showroom floor. Call today!

The days of changing your engine oil every 3,000 miles are long gone thanks to most cars having automatic oil monitoring systems, but about 800,000 General Motors vehicles apparently have incorrect monitoring software that is leading to premature engine component wear. According to Autoweek, certain 2010-2012 Buick LaCrosse, Regal, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain models equipped with 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines could be going too long in between oil changes resulting in a higher-than-normal number of warranty claims for the engine's balance chain. The balance chain links the balance shaft to the crankshaft, and a worn one can produce higher noise levels.
As a fix, GM dealers will be reprogramming the software for the monitors in an effort to reduce the interval between oil changes, which varies based on driving habits and conditions. Through February 2015, the software update will be done at no cost to vehicle owners, but since this is not a recall, after that point, it will be up to the discretion of dealers as to whether or not they will charge for the service. What isn't immediately clear is whether GM plans on giving assistance to out-of-warranty customers who are experiencing engine issues from the worn chain.

We've talked about Pure Vision Design before, a California-based company that made waves at last year's SEMA show with its Martini-liveried, Indy-car-powered Ford Mustang. That same car later starred in a Petrolicious video we showed you just a few weeks back. The company's latest creation is a menacing car it calls the Pure Vision Design TT Camaro. Based on a 1972 model, this car shares the Martini Mustang's clean styling and obsession with details.
Unlike the Mustang, which draws its power from a mid-60s Lotus-Ford Indycar engine, the "TT" in this Camaro's name implies something far more potent. The Nelson Racing Engines 427-cubic-inch V8 has been fitted with a pair of turbochargers, with a claimed output of 1,400 horsepower. That's almost 1,000 more than the Martini Mustang.
A six-speed Magnum transmission dispatches that power to the ground, while Pirelli PZero tires are tasked with (somehow) trying to grip the road. Baer brakes hide behind those HRE rims, while JRI coilovers and HyperTech springs bless the Camaro with some degree of competency in the bends.

Thing are apparently happening to get the next-generation Chevy Volt ready for public consumption. The most obvious proof is in a preview of an announcement (possibly coming tomorrow) that the two main places where General Motors gets the Volt ready -the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant and the Brownstown Township battery assembly facility - will be getting big money upgrades and lots of new positions. The Hamtramck plant builds the Volt and its fancier cousin, the Cadillac ELR, as well as the global versions of the Volt. The Detroit News reports that GM will add 1,400 jobs and spend roughly $450 million at the two locations in order to build the redesigned Volt. What's less clear is exactly what the updates will bring us. We've heard that the new volt will be a 2016 model and come on a new chassis. Speculation in The Detroit News about tomorrow's announcement runs the gamut from a new compact PHEV with less electric range and a lower price (which makes sense) to an updated Volt with more electric range (heard it before) to a new all-electric vehicle (the moon shot). If there's any hints to be gleaned in the international Volts, there are also reports coming in that the Opel brand will get an all-electric vehicle that is cheaper than the Ampera. Read into that what you will. We pestered GM's Kevin Kelly on the new Volt (again) and he said (again) that he couldn't give out any more detail other than what's been reported. He just told AutoblogGreen that there will be an announcement tomorrow and that it will be about the Hamtramck and Brownstown facilities and involve the Volt. So, stay tuned.
