" THE FAT RAT "
1950 CHEVROLET 3100 FIVE WINDOW

OFFERED BY: RODS & RIDES BY TD, LLC photo file_zps0a6c4865.jpg

The Fat Rat is a original Missouri farm truck straight off the farm from Columbia Mo. This unique 5 window truck has not seen the bad weather associated with the northern states as you can see from the pictures. The truck does have just the right amount of Patina though that truly makes this truck look just right for the occasion. There are not many trucks   that have the patina without also having the complete rust. As I have mentioned, the truck does have the famous corner windows known as a 5 window. The 5 window trucks are truly special because there where not all that many of them from the beginning and now they are far and few.
This particular vehicle has been set up to drive. Once the truck was spotted and purchased we took it to the next level. The entire truck was taken apart and put back together on a late model chassis that had front A-arm suspension. The original suspension and steering just is not adequate for the demands of the road today. The brakes where also a big concern and with the transformation of the new chassis, power disc brakes came also. The engine these trucks had was mostly likely plenty of power and reliability but there is never a substitute for raw horsepower being made from the iconic 350 Chevy small block. So the decision was made, a freshened up 350 power plant with all new goodies like carburetor, radiator, alternator, and of course true dual exhaust was wedged between the fat front fenders. Behind it now in place of the unsynchronized 3 speed transmission sits a Turbo 350 automatic. During the build, the decision was also clear that a new Painless wiring system would also take the place of the existing cloth harness that had seen its better days many days ago.. As you can see, the truck looks very original but looks can be very deceiving.
This is not just an old pickup truck with a new set of Coker Tires and Cragar Delux 69 wheels. This vehicle has actually had a complete make over but has the look of being barn fresh. The truck is ready to cruise the strip or the local Custard joint without the hassles of driving an old truck. It also now has the capabilities of cruising state to state with normal highway speeds with one hand or no hands on the wheel and the same when it comes time you need to stop. This will be a fun truck with no concerns for the new owner. It will appreciate in value while being a useful vehicle for that occasional run to the hardware store or where ever you need to go. Unlike most classic vehicles there will be no reason to worry about polishing her up or a occasional door ding from the jerk who parks to close either... Anything that may happen will only add more character and stories.

2014 Chevy Silverado priced from *$24,585, V8 gets better economy than Ford EcoBoost V6

Mon, 01 Apr 2013

Chevrolet has thrown down the next hand in the pickup truck poker wars and revealed at least a couple of potential aces - depending on which numbers matter most to you. The 2014 2014 Silverado 1500 with its 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 gets 335 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, is mated to a six-speed automatic, can tow 11,500 pounds with the optional Max Trailer Package and costs the same as the outgoing Silverado, $24,585 (*including $995 destination fee). Chevy says the Silverado also stands atop the fuel economy charts when comparing any competitor with a V8 engine - and some competitors with V6 engines. The two-wheel drive model returns 16 miles per gallon city, 23 mpg highway, 19 mpg combined in two-wheel drive guise and 16 mpg city, 22 mpg highway and 18 mpg combined as a four-wheel drive.
For context around those numbers, the most fuel efficient V8-powered 2013 Ford F-150 pickups lose about two mpg in every metric compared to the Silverado, the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost returning 16 city, 18 highway and 22 combined in two-wheel drive. However, that EcoBoost does have 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. You can get a Ram 1500 with a 3.6-liter V6 that gets 25 mpg highway, but it has 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. The 2013 Ram with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and its 395 hp and 407 lb-ft drops one mpg in every category to the Silverado. Its tow rating is 200 pounds beyond its nearest competitor, the F-150 with the Max Trailer Tow Package.
Elsewhere, the new Silverado gets a quieter cab with a redesigned interior, a new bed with improved load-management possibilities, disc brakes all around, tweaked steering and suspension, along with free standard scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles.

No, Cadillac is not killing its flagship CT6 sedan

Sat, Jul 22 2017

Mark Twain never actually said that reports of his death had been greatly exaggerated. But if the Cadillac CT6 could talk, those are the exact words it would use. Speaking to Jalopnik, Cadillac chief Johan de Nysschen confirmed, emphatically, "There is absolutely no plan, at all, to cancel the CT6." In fact, says de Nysschen, the CT6 will soon be the beneficiary of significant investment. "The [CT6] forms a very important part of our product strategy going forward for the brand. The car also has a very major contribution to make to the shaping of brand perceptions, and the transformational process that Cadillac is undergoing." For instance, expect the CT6 to spearhead General Motors' most advanced forays into self-driving automobile technology. Interestingly, though, the Cadillac ATS and CTS sedans probably won't live past their current generations as the automaker 're-balances its sedan portfolio.' Replacement models are "in development" right now, says de Nysschen, which will "much more clearly separate the market position, both in terms of target customer demographics, in terms of market segments and in terms of price points between these three sedan lineups." So, that's confirmation that the Cadillac CT6 is going to stick around for a while. But what of other models cited by Reuters to potentially be killed, like the Buick LaCrosse and Chevy Impala and Volt? Read our take on that here, but suffice it to say that we don't think they're in danger, either. Next-gen Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra may use carbon fiber

Thu, Dec 7 2017

It's been generally accepted that the next generation of full-size GM trucks will use some sort of strong, lightweight material for the beds while retaining steel for the cab. While aluminum seems like the most obvious choice, according to Automotive News, the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra will incorporate both aluminum and carbon fiber in their beds. The publication cites sources from within GM, though it seems the introduction of this comparatively exotic material mix is still a few years off. While carbon fiber is both stronger and lighter than steel and aluminum, it takes significantly more time and money to produce, essentially relegating the material to small-volume cars. The main benefit for trucks is the resulting reduction in weight to improve fuel economy without sacrificing the tough, rugged capabilities truck buyers expect. The Ford F-150 made the switch to aluminum for the 2015 model year and it's proved highly successful. It seemed like it was only a matter of time before the competition followed suit. Automotive News says that the next-gen trucks will launch with aluminum beds and that it will take a couple of years before we'll see any carbon fiber incorporated into the design. Even then, only look for the composite material on higher-trim models, with a trickle down to lower-spec trucks possible further in the future. In 2011, GM announced it was working with Japan-based Teijin Limited on a carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic. There's a good chance that material's introduction will be on trucks.
