This 1958 3200 1/2 ton pickup was restored in 2008. It has been garaged most of the time.  1958 was the first year of any Long Wide Bed.  I have all receipts for the engine rebuild, body shop supplies and etc. This is not a hot rod although a 350 chevy engine instead of the 292 6cyl would be a shoe in as the bell housing and front motor mounts will work as is. The crank was turned 10/10.  A valve job was done.  Rod, and main bearings were replaced as well as the oil pump, fuel pump, and rings.  It has a GM electronic ignition. The old generator was replaced with a single post GM alternator.  All the gauges work although I did not trust the old fuel gage and the temp gauge so I replaced them with 2 1/4 auxillary gauges.  A conventional ignition system comes with the truck if you want it.  The truck is not air conditioned but the AC compressor and bracket, the new under dash unit and etc come with it.  You install,.  The radiator is a new high capacity aluminum model.  The exterior of the vehicle was repainted with Nason 2k urethane paint.  The paint codes are recorded on the inside of the glove box lid.  It has a pioneer stereo system with two 10 inch woofers and four 6x9 speakers and a functionl Cobra CB radio.  The stereo has a CD and Mp3 input. All four brake drums were replaced with new ones.  The master cylinder and all wheel cylinders were replaced.  It has four new shocks.  The king pins were replaced along with the drag link.  The bed wood was replaced with plywood and painted black.  It looks good and can be used without fear of damage.  Plywood is cheap.  If you are up to the hassel install a fancy wooden bed with chrome strips.  I did that once on another truck.  Never again!  The heater works and it has electric windshield wipers.  This truck is long term servicable.  With minimum maintenance and care it will last indefinitely.  That is the beauty of older vehicles. This truck will draw lots of attention wherever you drive it.  Folks want to take photos of it all the time.  I have several other current projects.  This old 58 is a lot of fun but I must move on.  Call me at 580-331-7895.  Ask for Bob.  E mail is bobe73654@yahoo.com.

Camaro driver clocked at 171 miles per hour

Wed, Apr 13 2016

Chevy's 2016 Camaro SS is a fantastic piece of automotive engineering. It is also, apparently, very, very fast. This latter fact was perfectly illustrated when, on April 8, a Camaro SS driver was nailed in Two Harbors, Minnesota for doing 171 mph. According to WFAA, the unnamed speed demon was flying down Highway 61 near Two Harbors when Hermantown, MN Deputy Police Chief Shawn Padden clocked him at an eye-watering 171 mph. He then recorded the speeder at 168 and 141. At the time, Deputy Chief Padden was working with Minnesota State Patrol on an anti-DWI program called "Toward Zero Deaths". Padden, who was interviewed by the Duluth News Tribune, said he was surprised at the driver's sheer speed. "When he went by me, it was a blur," Padden told the News. "You get used to seeing people going 65 or 70 and what that looks like. But I've never seen anything like this. It's like a rocket on wheels." Fadden chased the Camaro down eventually, but it took some doing. To catch the Camaro, he pushed his Dodge Charger Pursuit to 135 mph just to get into range so the Camaro could see his emergency lights. The speeding driver was ticketed for careless driving, but may lose his license due to a Minnesota law that gives courts the option of revoking licenses for drivers caught doing more than 100 mph. GM says its electric pickup truck is 'in development'

Thu, Jun 6 2019

GM President Mark Reuss just reiterated the company's support for an electric pickup project. He also claimed that GM is going to be selling its future electric cars at "very average transaction prices" during the same conference with Wall Street analysts. Previously, Mary Barra informed the world of GM's electric pickup truck aspirations, but didn't tell us anything else. Reuss says the truck is already in development, though, according to a Wards Auto report. "We will have a complete electric lineup, including a pickup truck that's in development," Reuss said. This comment marks the second time GM has gone on the record about its intentions to bring an electric pickup to market. Additionally, Reuss said GM's third-generation global EV platform will be used to help develop the electric pickup. This platform was recently announced to underpin at least 20 new EVs from GM in the future — the platform itself is slated to be unveiled in 2021. Of course, this platform will be flexible and modular to allow various body styles to be used with it, a truck being one of those. Reuss still hasn't said what GM brand the pickup will be sold under, or what class of truck it will be. GM thinks this new platform is also going to be what helps it drive down the cost of building EVs. "We'll reach parity a lot sooner than people think," Reuss said comparing EVs to traditional gas-powered engines. "We're driving down the cost of batteries and the whole EV in general." As for electric pickups, Ford is also deep in development of its own electric F-150. However, neither of these truck projects have official timelines on them, so we can't say when they'll hit the market. For now, the cross-town rivals are both in development with their respective electric pickups. Even further across town is Rivian (in which Ford just invested half a billion dollars), a company that says its electric R1T pickup is right around the corner, with the official due date being end of 2020 for the time being. Vert-A-Pac train cars kept your Chevy Vega's price in check

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

Our apologies to those who've seen this before, but for the rest of the class, how awesome are these pictures of the Vert-A-Pac shipping system General Motors came up with to ship the Chevrolet Vega back in the 1970s? Developed along with Southern Pacific Railroad, GM was able to double the amount of Vega models it could ship by packing them into the unique storage cars vertically.
At the time, rail cars could fit 15 vehicles each, but Chevrolet was able to lower shipping costs by making it possible to ship 30 Vegas per rail car, in turn allowing the price of the Vega to remain as low as possible. Each rail car had 30 doors that would fold down so that a Vega could be strapped on, and then a forklift would come along and lift the door into place. All the cars were positioned nose down, and since they were shipped with all of their required fluids, certain aspects had to be designed specifically for this type of shipping, including an oil baffle in the engine, a special battery and even a repositioned windshield washer reservoir. See for yourself in our image gallery above.
