Here is some information On Genuine GM Choo Choo conversions-

* The Choo Choo Customs, Inc., El Camino SS model was available through any Chevrolet dealership from 1983 through 1987. The "Choo-Choo SS" was an appearance package only. Unlike earlier Chevrolet Super Sport models, no performance enhancements were made to the production Choo Choo SS models. A very large percentage of the Choo Choo Customs, El Camino SS's were not factory Super Sports. That percentage of SS's do not carry the RPO code "Z15", designating Chevrolet Motor Division's "SS Sport Decor".

The following information on the Choo-Choo SS is from a 1992 Choo Choo Customs Specialty Parts Division catalog:

"The original El Camino SS was produced by Choo Choo Customs for GM from mid-1983 until the El Camino series was discontinued at the end of 1987. In addition to the aerodynamic nose treatment that was the primary styling feature of all El Camino SSs, all vehicles received graphics on the fascia, doors and tailgate, and a small chrome train logo above the glove compartment door. Vehicles manufactured in 1987 also have a Choo Choo Customs logo with train on the front fascia and tailgate. A limited number of El Camino SS had aerodynamic-ground effect style side exhausts with rectangular chrome exits. Early El Camino SS until mid-1985 used aluminum body side molding with a machine-turned center and two vinyl inserts running full length of the molding. Later El Camino SS used a more rounded style body side molding. Some vehicles used factory side molding and fender well trim. Many El Camino SS were equipped with aluminum wheels. Early vehicles had center caps with styling holes. Later vehicles featured solid center caps. Aluminum cargo rails were also installed on numerous vehicles." More details of the front nose treatment (fascia) can be seen here: Detail Picture, Detail Diagram, Detail Parts List.

"In 1986, Chevrolet was the official truck of the Indianapolis 500 and a specially developed El Camino SS was one of the featured vehicles that performed on-track services before and throughout the race. This one-only El Camino SS featured an aluminum 350 CID Chevy engine and functioning strobe headlights and tail lights, plus a roll bar mounted strobe light system. A special El Camino SS was the only truck to ever pace an IROC race. This IROC-S also featured the trade-mark aerodynamic front end design, IROC-S urethane paint in custom candy colors, and 16" aluminum wheels. Approximately fifteen IROC-S were built between '85 and '86."

*Choo-Choo Customs El Camino SS's also featured a certification sticker mounted below the driver's side door striker.  (Picture) Yes, this one was mounted upside down.

*All Choo-Choo SSs had "Designer Series" emblems on the door handles, and, if ordered, on the sides of the non-functional cowl induction hood scoops.

*The front bumper ends were cut off and a portion of the front bumper remained behind the front fascia of all Choo-Choo Customs SS El Caminos. The parking light mounting and lenses are unique.

*Large SS graphic was used at the bottom of the front air-dam when no front license plate was used. Smaller SS graphic was used on the driver's side front below the parking light when a front license plate was used. The production Choo-Choo graphics came in only black or silver.

*Many, but not all, Choo-Choo SS's used an additional Choo Choo Customs, Inc., "train" graphic. Often found below the driver's side headlights and on the tailgate. It is believed that Choo Choo Customs, Inc., experimented with different versions of their logo (train w/smoke trailing and CCC letters) in multiple locations, front fascia and tailgate, throughout 1983-1987.

*All Choo-Choo Customs El Camino SS's were "final assembled" at Choo Choo Customs, Inc's.,  headquarters in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

*Production figures for Choo-Choo Customs El Camino SS (unaudited figures):

    1983 - 587,   1984 - 1309,   1985 - 1198,   1986 - 995,   1987 - 861 (total of 4950)

This is no misprint- 861 made in 1987, and I'm told this color combination was exceptionally rare, due to most Choo Choo's  having been white with burgundy interior. If you always wanted a Choo Choo with all of the rarest Choo Choo Customs order boxes checked, this is it. 3889 Miles, this is a second owner vehicle, and she is in her 80's. This car has been stored in a Barn in Iowa for most of its life after being bought from a man that needed money some time ago. This Choo Choo starts right up and will take you anywhere. I would take this across country tomorrow. Runs like a top, AC blows cold. Needs nothing beyond a detail cleaning.

We have the rare side exit exhaust, and optional "Designer Series" non-functional cowl hood scoop with original badging. Small Dash "Choo Choo" logo with 3 C's engraved for "Choo Choo Customs". This is not a "Clone" a "Copy" or even a "Tribute" as many people doctor their language to sidestep the word "FAKE". This is the REAL DEAL. (Even has original Recertification tag with all proper markings, including misspelled "Affective") Interior is in incredible shape,  no: rips, tears, snags, cracks- chips, cuts; holes- breaks or repairs. RARE Automatic on the floor shifter. Beautiful grey interior, with GM rubber floor mats to preserve the beauty of the factory carpeting.  Optional Choo Choo bed rails in fantastic original condition. This is a turn key Show Car waiting to happen, where you could make new friends, and some money in the right contest.  The blue color exterior has an almost shade of green to it that is quite striking, and absolutely rare, especially in a factory Choo Choo model. Title ready to go and so is this beautiful rare El Camino to a buyer who can appreciate the rare piece of automotive history. Don't waste your money overspending on clones or copies, they never appreciate in value like the real thing, and with 3889 miles, this one is truly an investment sure to climb in leaps and bounds in value over the next decade, just look at how much these have gone up in the LAST decade. Will we have another time like 05-06 where low milage all original cars of a bygone era are fetching $100k+? Unfortunately the original Choo Choo customs is now long out of business...never to build another Choo Choo Custom, EVER AGAIN. You will not find another cleaner. No disappointments here!

Forza Motorsport 6's new drivable Hot Wheels cars are the best

Tue, May 3 2016

Each month, Turn 10 Studios releases a new car pack for the latest installment of its Forza Motorsport video game. Sometimes that means less-than-exciting stuff coming to our Xbox Ones – BMW X6M, bleh – but this time our inner seven-year-old is beyond ecstatic. Two of the seven cars are based on actual Hot Wheels models. And. They're. Awesome. First we have the 2011 Hot Wheels Bone Shaker. Yes, there are flames on the side. And yes, there's a giant skull where the grille should be. This one came from the imagination of "Mr. Hot Wheels" Larry Wood, whose design was so popular it inspired an actual real-world creation. Like all good things in this world, it's powered by a small-block Chevy V8. Oh, and it has no roof. This will be a popular one among gamers. The other digitized Hot Wheels creation is a 2005 Ford Mustang. A modest vehicle, sure, but the toy designers have festooned this pony car with a wild paint scheme and the body mods to emphasize it. Originally developed to celebrate the 'Stang's 50th birthday, this Hot Wheels car trades Americana for wild Japanese style. There's just one functioning life-size version of this car in existence as well, but if you look hard, you might be able to find one of the 1:64 scale models that inspired it. Other highlights from this month's car pack include the latest Ford Focus RS – finally time to replace that NASCAR-V8-powered, all-wheel-drive 2009 Focus RS – the 2015 McLaren P1 GTR, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS, the aforementioned X6M, and Alain Prost's 1990 Ferrari 641 F1 car. The Hot Wheels Car Pack is available for download today. 2015 Chevrolet Trax

Thu, Dec 4 2014

After the obligatory product presentation for the 2015 Trax, I caught up with Steve Majoros, Chevrolet's director of marketing for crossovers and cars, and asked him to elaborate on which markets his planners believe will be the hot starters for this tiny CUV. Without much hesitation, Majoros began to click off traditional sales havens for Subaru, namely, New England and the snowy bits of the East Coast, Colorado and the Pacific Northwest. That news might not surprise you, but it did me. Perhaps it's something as basic as the Trax's tall-hatchback looks, or the emphasis Chevrolet put on the urban driving cycle during my test in San Diego. But before my chat with Majoros, I'd considered this a crossover pointed at the Millennial city mouse more than his bumpkin cousin. But a closer look had me re-examining the granola cred of Chevy's smallest crossover. Having spent my fair share of time in New England and around New Englanders, I started by mentally listing the Trax's Subaru-like traits: practicality, thrift, all-weather ability and, well, just a dash of ugliness. (I suppose a hatchback needn't always be ugly to sell in Maine, or Boulder or Portland... but a 'distinctive' face doesn't seem to hurt.) After a day of driving through sunny San Diego and its surroundings, I can say that Trax makes an interesting case for itself against the standard bearers of the L.L. Bean set, but I'm less sure of its argument for young urbanites. The Trax looks a lot like an Equinox whose suit shrunk in the wash. Chevy's has downsized its own, rather conservative crossover styling to fit the proportions of the subcompact Trax; to my eyes, it looks a lot like an Equinox whose suit shrunk in the wash. That's fine for offering a cohesive look for the Chevy family of crossovers, but it seems out of step with the rest of the segment. If the Trax's current competitive set were the cast of a high school-based TV show, the Kia Soul would play the lovable nerd, the Nissan Juke perhaps the outsider musician and the Subaru XV Crosstrek the athletic outdoorsy kid. Chevy may see the Trax as the hipster chick wearing intentionally ironic mom jeans, but to me the styling is a little too on the nose; more like an actual grownup trying to hang with the kids. These mom jeans are genuine. Per my earlier point, that quasi-conservative look may be just fast enough for staid New Englanders, but I have a hard time seeing the bluff, big-Bowtied front end playing in Bushwick or Wicker Park.

Chevrolet Malibu gets across-the-board price cuts, hopes to dig out of slump

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

To say that things aren't going well for the newly redesigned 2013 Chevrolet Malibu is a pretty sizable understatement. Reports have been swirling about the Malibu getting an emergency design refresh, less than a year after its introduction, as well as having its production at the Fairfax Assembly Plant halted twice already this year for excessive inventory. Now, Motor Trend is reporting that the midsize sedan will be receiving price drops across the board ranging from $300 on a number of models up to $770 on the 1LT trim; offsetting some of MSRP drop, though, the destination charge has increased from $760 to $810.
Without destination, the entry-level Malibu LS now starts at $21,995, which is still about $300 more than a Honda Accord and about $300 less than the segment's top-selling Toyota Camry. This new pricing also drops the price of the Eco, 2LT and 3LT trims by $300. The LTZ trim has dropped by $415, meaning that the Malibu's top dog now starts at just under $30,000, excluding destination.
Here are the new starting prices for all eight of the Malibu trim levels compared to the previous prices for the 2013 model year (including destination):
