1986 Chevy C30 1 ton truck, standard cab, 4 speed transmission, runs and drives great. It does have some issues. I will try and list them all. There is a lot of rust, floor boards mainly, the frame is very rusty, the windshield is cracked on the passenger side, the dash is badly cracked, the seat bottom is in bad shape. There are probably other things, I will list them as I think of them. There are a lot of good things about the truck too. The engine runs great, very little oil consumption. The transmission works fine with the exception that occasionally it will pop out of third gear if you don't hold it in place. The tires look good, it has a fairly new alternator, fuel pump, possibly water pump, master brake cylinder. I am not absolutely positive about the water pump. The rear brakes were redone not too long ago. The brakes do work great. I just removed the gas tank today and cleaned it and replaced it. I had some bad gas. I do have it reattached but it does need to be done properly. The existing straps and the mounts on the bottom of the tank that mount to the frame were badly rusted and not reusable. The metal bed is in pretty good shape. It does have some rust and a couple of holes. It has metal racks and I believe the rear section of the racks is here. Last time I checked the head lights, tail lights, parking lights, brake lights and marker lights did work. I have not checked them in a while. I did notice that one of the rear marker light lenses is broken on the rear driver side of the truck bed. The truck has dents and doesn't look great but it is dependable. I have had no problems starting it except a loose battery cable. The battery does not go with it. It is from another of my vehicles. I may possibly have one here that will go with it but I will have to make sure that it is good and will work but to be safe, I will say no battery included. Last time I changed oil I used Amsoil, a 100% synthetic oil and I believe an Amsoil filter too. The oil is rated at 25,000 miles with an oil filter change at 12,500. I never let the oil go that long. I usually replace both at about 10,000 miles. I have not put that many miles on it since I have had it. I seldom use this truck. Mainly to haul saw dust or mulch for my own use. Occasionally to haul a few pieces of furniture. I believe the engine is a 350. It is a V8. That's about all I can think of. If you have questions, please ask. The gas mileage is not great and seems to vary. I would estimate from 10 to 12 miles per gallon but will not guarantee that. Probably closer to 10. I do trust the truck and I would not be afraid to drive it anywhere if I could afford the gas. If you need to drive it a long distance the decision to chance it will be up to you. The mileage is as listed but I don't know if that is original or not. I would guess that it is not. There is no spare tire, jack or lug wrench. There was none when I bought it. I did buy an old tire that is up and holding air that is I have never tried it so I am not certain. But I will throw it in too.. The wheel could be used with another tire if it does in fact fit. I have tried to be completely honest and list the bad as well as the good. The truck weighs between 6,000 and 7,000 pounds and it would bring about $700.00 across the scale for junk, so I will start the price a little above that. This truck is sold as is.

Best and Worst GM Cars
Thu, Apr 7 2022Oh yes, because we just love receiving angry letters from devoted Pontiac Grand Am enthusiasts, we have decided to go there. Based on a heated group Slack conversation, the topic came up about the best and worst GM cars. First of all time, and then those currently on sale, and then just mostly a rambling discussion of Oldsmobiles our parents and grandparents owned (or engineered). Eventually, three of us made the video above. Like it? Maybe we can make more. Many awesome GM cars are definitely going unmentioned here, so please let us know your bests and worsts in the comments below. Mostly, it's important to note that this post largely exists as a vehicle for delivering the above video that dives far deeper into GM's greatest hits and biggest flops, specifically those from the 1980s and 1990s. What you'll find below is a collection of our editors identifying a best current and best-of-all-time choice, plus a worst current and worst-of-all-time choice. Comprehensive it is not, but again, comments. -Senior Editor James Riswick Best Current GM Vehicle Chevrolet Corvette We were flying by the seats of our pants a bit in this first outing and my notes were similarly extemporaneous. When it came time to tie it all together on camera, I failed spectacularly. Thank the maker for text, because this gives me the opportunity to perhaps slightly better explain my convoluted reasoning. I chose the C8 Corvette because it's simply overwhelmingly good, and it's merely the baseline from which this generation of Corvette will be expanded. While the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing (more on that in a minute) is an amazing snapshot of GM's current performance standing and its little sibling so enraptured me that I went out and bought one, their existence is fleeting. Corvette will live on; forced-induction Cadillac sport sedans, not so much. So while all three are amazing machines when viewed in a vacuum, the Corvette stands above them as both a reflection of GM's current performance credentials and a signpost of what is to come. So, given the choice between the C8 and the 5V-Blackwing right now, I'd choose the C8. In 10 years, when the Blackwing is no longer in production and Corvette is in its 9th generation? Well, that might be a different story. Now, just pretend I said something even remotely that coherent when we get to the part of the video where I try to make an argument for the 5-V Blackwing as best GM car I've ever driven. Or just laugh at me while I ramble incoherently.
Recharge Wrap-up: U of M wins Solar Challenge, family attempts record-breaking e-bike ride
Thu, Aug 14 2014The University of Michigan Solar Car Team has won the 2014 American Solar Challenge. It is the team's eighth national championship, its fifth in a row, and its first using Siemens' product lifecycle management (PLM) software. The race took place over 1,722 miles and seven days traveling across eight states. The team's car, called "Quantum," outpaced the nearest competitor by four hours. Looking forward, Michigan Solar Car Project Manager Pavan Naik says, "The switch to Siemens tools will give us the ability to model and simulate everything and truly allow us to optimize the performance of our new vehicle. As we start on our quest to win the World Solar Challenge in 2015, we'll be leveraging a full complement of PLM solutions." Read more in the press release below. The EcoCar3 competition, in which teams will convert Chevrolet Camaros into hybrid electric cars, begins in September. The various college teams will have four years to lessen the car's environmental impact as much as possible while maintaining performance and, of course, that cool Camaro design. EcoCar3, which is put on by the US Department of Energy and General Motors, kicks off with a workshop in Novi, Michigan from September 16 - 18. Read more at the DOE website at the dedicated EcoCar3 site or watch the announcement video at our previous post. Zap and Jonway Auto are shifting to a high rate of EV production. Zap already has two lines creating the Urbee EV to met demand, and is switching over a third to make electric minivans and SUVs. The company aims to produce 30,000 EVs by 2015 for the Chinese market. Zap says it has a backlog of 25,000 Urbee orders. Read more in the press release below. A family of four hopes to make a world record-breaking, 6,000-mile electric bike journey this fall. The family, which recently drove from Argentina to Montana in a pickup with a camper, will ride from Montana to Maine, then down the East Coast to Florida in an attempt to break the record for longest electric bicycle ride. They'll use two bikes. The Father, Thomas, will ride one of the bikes carrying one of the children, while the rest of the family rides in a support vehicle, with the mother, Dylan, riding the second bike when they can find others to drive. They have started a crowdfunding campaign for some of the equipment needed to document the trip. See the video below or read more at Treehugger.
