UP FOR AUCTION WE HAVE THIS 1971 CHEVY CUSTOM 30 DUMP TRUCK. IT IS A 11,000 GVW. HAS A 350 V8 WITH 4 SPEED TRANSMISSION. HAS P/S AND P/B. HAS DISC BRAKES ON THE FRONT AND DRUM BRAKES ON THE REAR. THE TIRES ARE 7.50/R16 LT TIRES. THE TRUCK HAS 91,953 ORGINAL MILES ON IT. THE DUMP BODY IS A J AND J DUMP BODY FROM SOMERSET PA. THE BED IS 7'X8' WITH A COAL CHUTE. A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH FIND. DON'T TRY TO BS ME ON THIS TRUCK, I HAVE DONE TOO MANY OF THEM. TRUCK WAS SOLD NEW FROM A LOCAL DEALER SUTLIFF CHEVROLET HERE IN HARRISBURG PA ON 8/6/1971. HERE IS WHAT I KNOW I BOUGHT THE TRUCK AT AUCTION AS YOU SEE IT IN THE PICTURES TODAY. BUT I FOUND OUT SOME HISTORY. THE 350 V8 MOTOR IS A NEW CHEVY CRATE MOTOR SUPPOSELY IT HAS LOW MILES ON IT. IT NEEDS TLC CARE AND A TUNE UP. BUT STILL RUNS GOOD. THE CLUTCH, TRANSMISSION AND BRAKES SEEM GOOD. I DIDNT PULL ANY WHEELS YET. THE EXHAUST NEEDS SOME WORK, LEAKS AT THE MANIFOLD MAYBE MORE. THE TIRES HAVE ALITTLE DRY ROT BUT VERY GOOD TREAD AND WOULD PASS INSPECTION. ONE REAR TIRE DOES HAVE A GROOVE WORE INTO TREAD BUT IT OKAY. THE PAINT MAKES THE BODY LOOK WORSE THEN REALLY IS. NEEDS BOTH DOORS, WHICH I HAVE 2 NICE USED DOORS COMPLETE DOORS THAT GO WITH THE TRUCK. IT DOES NEED ROCKER PANELS AND CAB CORNERS. THE CAB MOUNTS ARE PRETTY GOOD. THE FLOOR COULD USE A COUPLE OF PATCHES. OVER ALL THE TRUCK IS BETTER THAN MOST. THIS TRUCK COULD EASILY BE MADE INTO A NICE USEABLE WORK TRUCK OR A CLASSIC YOUR CHOICE. THE 67-72 CHEVYS ARE ONE OF MY FAVORITES. THE ONLY REASON IAM SELLING THE TRUCK IS BECAUSE I HAVE INTEREST IN OLD FARM TRACTORS, OTHER WISE I WOULD KEEP THE TRUCK AND RESTORE IT MYSELF. THIS IS ONE I SHOULD KEEP. THE DUMP BODY IS A J AND J BODY FROM SOMERSET PA. IT IS A 7'X8' BED WITH A 2' TAILGATE WITH A WORKING COAL CHUTE. THE DUMP IS PTO DRIVEN AND OPERATES VERY SMOOTHLY. TRUST ME ALOT BETTER THAN MOST YOU WILL FIND. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS CALL ME DIRECT AT 717-649-2046. OR EMAIL ME WHICH EVER YOU PREFER. ALL SALES ARE FINAL. YOU ARE BUYING AS IS. A DEPOSIT OF $250.00 IS TOO BE PAID WITHIN 48 HOURS OF AUCTION END. THIS DEPOSIT IS NON-REFUNDABLE. I WOULD PREFER FOR THE REST OF THE BALANCE TO BE PAID IN CASH BUT IF YOU HAVE TO USE A CHECK THE TRUCK WILL NOT BE RELEASED UNTIL CHECK CLEARS THE BANK AND THAT GOES FOR ALL CHECKS. THANK FOR LOOKING

Recharge Wrap-up: U of M wins Solar Challenge, family attempts record-breaking e-bike ride
Thu, Aug 14 2014The University of Michigan Solar Car Team has won the 2014 American Solar Challenge. It is the team's eighth national championship, its fifth in a row, and its first using Siemens' product lifecycle management (PLM) software. The race took place over 1,722 miles and seven days traveling across eight states. The team's car, called "Quantum," outpaced the nearest competitor by four hours. Looking forward, Michigan Solar Car Project Manager Pavan Naik says, "The switch to Siemens tools will give us the ability to model and simulate everything and truly allow us to optimize the performance of our new vehicle. As we start on our quest to win the World Solar Challenge in 2015, we'll be leveraging a full complement of PLM solutions." Read more in the press release below. The EcoCar3 competition, in which teams will convert Chevrolet Camaros into hybrid electric cars, begins in September. The various college teams will have four years to lessen the car's environmental impact as much as possible while maintaining performance and, of course, that cool Camaro design. EcoCar3, which is put on by the US Department of Energy and General Motors, kicks off with a workshop in Novi, Michigan from September 16 - 18. Read more at the DOE website at the dedicated EcoCar3 site or watch the announcement video at our previous post. Zap and Jonway Auto are shifting to a high rate of EV production. Zap already has two lines creating the Urbee EV to met demand, and is switching over a third to make electric minivans and SUVs. The company aims to produce 30,000 EVs by 2015 for the Chinese market. Zap says it has a backlog of 25,000 Urbee orders. Read more in the press release below. A family of four hopes to make a world record-breaking, 6,000-mile electric bike journey this fall. The family, which recently drove from Argentina to Montana in a pickup with a camper, will ride from Montana to Maine, then down the East Coast to Florida in an attempt to break the record for longest electric bicycle ride. They'll use two bikes. The Father, Thomas, will ride one of the bikes carrying one of the children, while the rest of the family rides in a support vehicle, with the mother, Dylan, riding the second bike when they can find others to drive. They have started a crowdfunding campaign for some of the equipment needed to document the trip. See the video below or read more at Treehugger.
Are you the 2014 Corvette Grand Sport?
Thu, 21 Feb 2013When are stripes more than just stripes? Follow up question: Is the product development team at Chevrolet really cocky enough to hide the next C7 Corvette variant in plain sight? This very recently spotted, and ostensibly obscured C7 asks a lot more questions than it answers, but there's at least some evidence to support that it might be the next Corvette Grand Sport.
The first and most obvious tip-off that something is up with this 'Vette revolves around those silver stripes. Obviously the stripes themselves don't necessarily denote a new model. However, when Chevy recently launched its "colorizer" website for the Stingray, there was no provision made for racing stripes - solid colors only.
Grand Sport exhibit number two is actually an incriminating lack of badges. The production Corvettes we've seen to date have all carried Stingray badges on their fenders, just behind the vent. The car seen in these images has no such badges, which is an intriguing omission on an car that looks like a production-spec vehicle otherwise.
GM recalling 118K Colorado, Canyon pickups over missing hood latches
Thu, 20 Dec 2012General Motors has announced a recall of 118,800 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks due to the possibility of secondary hood latches not being installed at the time of manufacture. The affected vehicles are from the 2010, 2011 and 2012 model years, all of which were built between November 9, 2009 and August 28, 2012.
According to the official National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report, these trucks fail to "comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 113, 'Hood Latch System.' The hood may be missing the secondary hood latch." In other words, owners of these trucks could find their vehicles' hoods opening unexpectedly while driving.
The official recall campaign is expected to begin on January 17, 2013. Dealers will inspect the affected pickups and if a secondary hood latch is not present, one will be installed free of charge. Scroll down to read the official NHTSA report.
