1971 Chevy C20 Custom Camper in very good condition. This truck was built in the GM Fremont California plant and spent it's entire life in southern California.I purchased the truck last year as a fun toy/ household truck. Things have changed and I'm selling off a few of my old cars. The truck is located in New Milford, CT 06776 in a warehouse I have there. It has never been in salt or snow.

Runs and drives very well. Engine is smooth and quiet. Transmission is quiet, no noises, syncros are all good. Clutch is good, no vibration or slippage. Travels straight down the road, no pull to either side. Power steering and brakes work properly. A/C and heater controls are balky. If you push them around enough the A/C compressor will go on and the pipes in the engine compartment get cold. The fan switch is stuck broken, I have a new one. Fan will blow if connected directly to the battery. Odometer and all gages work properly.Radio is an old aftermarket AM-FM with cassette. It does work, I haven't tried the cassette feature.

Truck was repainted many years ago in the original Medium Olive color average type of paint job. Interior was redone also and is clean and nice shape. Does have some marks and chips, some road rash down low from sand on road. Overall a very nice apperance, but not a show truck. Just a good old truck. Rear wooden bed slats are old and original, should be replaced, lots of kits available online.

This is a heavy duty  truck, would easily pull your boat or car or the camper trailer it was originally designed for. Has a 7500 lb GVW. Transmission is the heavy duty CH465 with the compound first gear. Tires are almost new 9:50-16.5 with 12 Ply rating.Rear bumper is a heavy duty sliding bumper for use with pickup box campers.

Please look over the photos, feel free to email me or phone your questions. My cell is 203-648-6818. This is a very solid truck that will work for you or use it as a toy. I have tried to describe the truck fairly, maybe even harshly. But, please feel free to call or email your questions. Sold as is. I have clear title. The truck will go anywhere. It will not, however, go 90 mph or anywhere close to that. If you want to drive it home, fine. It will make it. Please remember that these trucks had low gears in the rear axle and non overdrive transmissions. $500 deposit by paypal in 48 hours, payment in 7 days. Please ask your wife, banker, or automotive advisor before you bid. Thanks to everyone for reading this, good luck to everyone. Thanks, Dave

Chevy Corvette gets Valet Mode with Performance Data Recorder [w/video]

Mon, 18 Aug 2014

For the 2015-model-year, Chevrolet introduces Valet Mode for the Corvette, an enhancement to the Performance Data Recorder (PDR) already available and to your peace of mind. The PDR already captures 720p HD video with a windshield-mounted camera, records interior audio with a cabin microphone and gathers telemetry data using GPS, saving the data to an SD card in the glovebox. You can then watch your track-day antics with various information overlays on the center console screen.
Valet Mode will let you hit 'Replay' when your car gets pulled up front smelling vaguely of fricasseed clutch. Turned on by entering a four-digit code, it also locks the interior storage spaces and turns off the infotainment system. It can't be turned off until the code is re-entered. There's a press release below with more information as well as a video that explains how it works, with the obligatory dig at the 'Vette's biggest foe.

Body shop manager stole over $500,000 worth of government trucks and parts

Fri, Jan 27 2017

The US Department of Justice announced yesterday that the manager of a collision and restoration business in Virginia admitted he helped misappropriate and sell vehicles and parts from the State Department. Specifically, he sold 12 Chevrolet Suburbans, a Hummer, and $7,500 worth of tires and wheels. He pled guilty to charges to commit theft of government property and wire fraud. He will likely see 18 to 20 months in prison, a fine of $4,000 to $40,000, and has already agreed to pay restitution of $416,020 and asset forfeiture of the same amount. According to the Department of Justice, the body shop manager, James Ratcliffe, worked with the owner of the business and a State Department official, both unnamed, to obtain the property. It started with the wheels and tires, which were delivered and sold on two occasions, one in 2011 and another in 2012. The trucks came later, and were sold throughout 2011 and 2013. Ratcliffe and the shop owner kept most of the profits, and shared some of the leftovers with the government official. In addition to the vehicles that were sold, the government official also gave Ratcliffe a pair of Suburbans for his own personal use. The Department of Justice estimated the total value of the SUVs at $96,400. In total, the group misappropriated $512,420 worth of property. Related Video:

GM Design shows what could have been and what might be

Thu, May 27 2021

We periodically like to check in with GM Design's Instagram account to see what they're cooking up. Even better is when we catch a glimpse of an alternate history of what legendary designers from The General's past were thinking, though those ideas may not have made it into production. This week, for example, the account posted some illustrations from George Camp, whose career at GM spanned nearly four decades, from 1963 to 2001. One of the renderings is of what appears to be a 1971-72 Pontiac GTO Judge, but with two headlights instead of the production unit's quad beams. The rear departs from the canonical version most dramatically, with a massive integrated wing. Other bits that didn't make the production cut include large side vents, a gill-like side marker and rectangular intakes below the headlights that wouldn't be out of place on a modern design today. Amazingly, from what we can make out of the date, it appears that the drawing was done sometime in 1965, which makes it quite prescient.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) There's also a very aerodynamic interpretation of a Corvette ZR-1. To our eyes it splits the difference between the 1986 Corvette Indy concept and a fourth-generation F-body Pontiac Firebird, so perhaps parts of Camp's work on this sketch did make it into physical form. There's also a radical sports car concept from May 1970 that resembles the Mazda RX-500 concept from the same year, a Syd Mead-looking Cadillac coupe, and an Oldsmobile with a cool take on the company's trademark waterfall grille and elements of the Colonnade Cutlass at the rear. Other recent posts include a FJ Cruiser-like off-road EV, a sleek coupe with the Chevy corporate grille, and a rendering of a Silverado-esque pickup that looks far better than the current production version.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) It's pretty easy to lose hours in the account, but it's always fascinating to see GM's visions of what could have been and what might be.
