Up for sale is a New Mexico 1970 Chevrolet 1 ton Dually. This truck is as totally rust free as you will find, having lived 95% of it's life in New Mexico. As I understand it, this truck was originally a 1 ton flatbed, and at some point a 1970 "Longhorn" bed was added. The rear wheel wells have a slight tub, the rear wheels do not stick out like a more typical dually truck. The engine is a freshly rebuilt 350, and runs perfectly. Transmission is a typical 4 speed granny low, clutch is fine, brakes work fine. No AC.
A friend of mine at work, who moved to Colorado from New Mexico, was in the process of working on this truck. He had the rebuilt 350 installed, and put on 6 new Bridgestone "Desert Duelers" tires, 245x75x16. He then moved to Colorado, driving the truck up here. The truck sat for several years in a car port, then he was moving again and his wife told him it had to go, she did not want it at their new home. I bought it from him, cleaned the fuel system, replaced the cap, rotor, wires, plugs, etc. and got it running. It runs perfectly, as you'd expect from a fresh engine.
The tires have some dry-cracks from having sat. They have all their tread, having only been driven maybe a 1000 miles since they were installed before the truck came up from NM. I have the tailgate, it's bent pretty badly. I also have the cover for the side tool box, it needs a bit of work. The body is about as straight as can be found, the paint is bad and needs attention. The grille has a minor tweak in it, see photos. All the glass is good, the passenger door seems to be stuck in the "locked" position and can't be opened. The driver's door is missing the lock. The dash has been very slightly cut for the radio, which is missing the faceplate. Heater works fine, seat has a cover over it so I really can't say what kind of shape it's in, but it does not sag horribly or anything like that. Truck has one fuel tank.
This truck is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end this auction at any time. Glad to store it for you for awhile if that's an issue, lets talk about what you need.
Please call with questions, I prefer that to email. Quinn, (303) 681-7770

GM will stop reporting monthly U.S. vehicle sales
Tue, Apr 3 2018DETROIT — General Motors said on Tuesday it will stop reporting monthly U.S. vehicle sales, saying the 30-day snapshot does not accurately reflect the market, and will instead issue quarterly sales. GM will also no longer report monthly sales in China, its largest market, and Brazil. GM will provide monthly data to the U.S. Federal Reserve, industry associations and government agencies across the globe, but that data is not made public. Analysts and investors rely on monthly U.S. vehicle sales not just to track the performance of individual automakers, but as a barometer of the health of the world's second-largest auto market and as an indicator of consumer confidence in the U.S. economy overall. GM and its Detroit rivals Ford and Fiat Chrysler have relied heavily on sales of high-margin pickup truck and SUV sales to boost profits. GM's total U.S. sales, its second-largest market, are down 3.2 percent for the first two months of 2018, reflecting a 6.8 percent drop in retail sales to individual customers, the company reported last month. GM executives have expressed frustration that comparisons of monthly U.S. sales results among rival automakers are distorted by short-term discount programs, and by differences in strategy for selling vehicles in bulk to rental car fleets. "Thirty days is not enough time to separate real sales trends from short-term fluctuations in a very dynamic, highly competitive market," Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president for sales operations said in a statement. GM's actions could prompt other automakers to also switch to quarterly U.S. sales reports. Major automakers will report March U.S. new vehicle sales on Tuesday. Until the early 1990s, most U.S. automakers released sales results every 10 days. The former Chrysler Corp. stopped reporting sales on a 10-day basis in 1990, and rivals followed suit over the next three years. GM executives are betting that investors will quickly adapt to receiving U.S. sales data every three months, as investors in other retail sectors already have. Retailers such as Walmart report sales on a quarterly basis. Reporting by Joe WhiteRelated Video: Image Credit: Reuters Earnings/Financials Green Buick Cadillac Chevrolet GM GMC US
Steve McQueen's last movie car, now Pawn Stars-owned, up for auction [w/video]
Sun, 03 Feb 2013The last car Steve McQueen ever drove in a movie is officially up for auction. The 1951 Chevrolet Styline DeLuxe Convertible you see above is now owned by none other than Rick Harrison of Pawn Stars fame, but once ferried McQueen around the set of his last film, 1980's The Hunter. That flick saw the Bullit star play a bumbling bounty hunter and didn't exactly set the box office on fire. McQueen bought the car after production wrapped, and four years later it sold at his estate sale at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas.
Flash forward to 2003, and the convertible received a full restoration back to near-stock specifications. Hagerty Insurance estimates the car to be worth around $45,000 without the significant providence. Given its ties to one of film's most popular gearheads, the old Chevrolet could fetch up to 10 times that when it goes under the gavel in Ft Luaderdale, Florida on March 22. You can head over to the Auctions America site for more information. You can also check out the trailer for The Hunter below.
The U-2 spy plane needs high-performance cars to help land
Thu, Oct 15 2015Typically, aircraft deploy their landing gear from three main points. Most military aircraft, for example, deploy two gears at the back and one forward, like a tricycle. Some civilian aircraft flip the layout, with two in front and one in back - tail-draggers. The U-2 Dragon Lady is wildly different than any of these. With a 103-foot wingspan but a body that's just 63-feet long, the layout of the U-2 makes a traditional landing setup infeasible. Instead, the U-2 utilizes a pair of wheels, one up front and one in back. With such a bizarre layout, landings are so tough that since the U-2's earliest flights at Area 51, the US Air Force has used high-performance chase cars to guide the pilot down safely. The landing process isn't over there, though. As this video from Sploid shows, balancing out the aircraft to fit the detachable "pogos" – think training wheels for spy planes – is a comical procedure requiring a number of airman using their full body weight to even out the U-2. This video also recaps some of the great vehicles that have served as chase vehicles for this legendary spy plane. They include Chevrolet El Caminos, and the Fox-body Ford Mustangs so favored by the California Highway Patrol. For the last several years, the USAF has utilized products from General Motors, using fourth-generation Chevy Camaros, before switching over to the Pontiac GTO and most recently, the awesome Pontiac G8. It's fair to say that if you're a gearhead in the Air Force, this is the job you want. Check out the video, embedded up top.
