My son and I bought this truck at the farm auction in the barn where it sat 39 years. We transported it by trailer to our mechanic who specializes in old Chevys. We love this truck, but he is expecting a baby and I have too many other projects now, so she goes up for auction: Odometer shows 12,489 miles, actual could be 112,489, but this farmer did not drive except to town maybe once a week at most, a 20 mile trip. This is a one owner farm truck found in a Kansas barn. It is totally original except for noted recent work done. Truck was owned since new in June 1958 by a Kansas farmer. It was used on the farm and trips to town only until 1984 when they bought a new Chevy truck, it was then parked in the barn and still has the 1984 Kansas farm tags on it! I also have the original title. She is a 3600, heavy duty 3/4 ton stepside long bed. At some point the 17" split rims and tube tires were replaced with Chevy 19.5" rims and hubcaps with tubeless tires. The light blue paint is original, with light surface rust, and 2 rust areas behind front wheel wells. There is a crinkle dent on the right rear of cab, otherwise this truck is straight as a pin. The patina is awesome. This truck also has the original brown vinyl seat interior, original rubber floor mats, 235 6cyl "thrift master" engine, 4 speed heavy duty transmission, spare tire, wood bed, optional wood side rail extensions, original external mirror, and the original owners manual in the glove box. This week my mechanic has: installed a new gas tank, all 4 new brakes and new master master cylinder, new battery, new plugs and wires, new fuel pump, cleaned the carberator, check and R & R hoses and belts, change oil and filters, lube as needed, check trans and gearbox fluids, etc. I have the original 8x19.5" tires which are old and weather checked and have purchased 4 newer tires to install this week. We will be starting the engine for the first time in 39 years this week! This truck could be left with original patina, or restored to new condition easily! Compare prices on restored examples, they go high! Please see the photos and don't hesitate to ask questions. This truck is in east-central Kansas where it has been all its life. The lucky buyer is responsible for picking up and transporting the vehicle. $500 deposit required at sale end. Balance due on PyPal or local cash. THIS IS THE REAL DEAL! ALL ORIGINAL! You don't find these often....

GM Design shows what could have been and what might be
Thu, May 27 2021We periodically like to check in with GM Design's Instagram account to see what they're cooking up. Even better is when we catch a glimpse of an alternate history of what legendary designers from The General's past were thinking, though those ideas may not have made it into production. This week, for example, the account posted some illustrations from George Camp, whose career at GM spanned nearly four decades, from 1963 to 2001. One of the renderings is of what appears to be a 1971-72 Pontiac GTO Judge, but with two headlights instead of the production unit's quad beams. The rear departs from the canonical version most dramatically, with a massive integrated wing. Other bits that didn't make the production cut include large side vents, a gill-like side marker and rectangular intakes below the headlights that wouldn't be out of place on a modern design today. Amazingly, from what we can make out of the date, it appears that the drawing was done sometime in 1965, which makes it quite prescient. View this post on Instagram A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) There's also a very aerodynamic interpretation of a Corvette ZR-1. To our eyes it splits the difference between the 1986 Corvette Indy concept and a fourth-generation F-body Pontiac Firebird, so perhaps parts of Camp's work on this sketch did make it into physical form. There's also a radical sports car concept from May 1970 that resembles the Mazda RX-500 concept from the same year, a Syd Mead-looking Cadillac coupe, and an Oldsmobile with a cool take on the company's trademark waterfall grille and elements of the Colonnade Cutlass at the rear. Other recent posts include a FJ Cruiser-like off-road EV, a sleek coupe with the Chevy corporate grille, and a rendering of a Silverado-esque pickup that looks far better than the current production version. Chevrolet Malibu gets across-the-board price cuts, hopes to dig out of slump
Mon, 11 Feb 2013To say that things aren't going well for the newly redesigned 2013 Chevrolet Malibu is a pretty sizable understatement. Reports have been swirling about the Malibu getting an emergency design refresh, less than a year after its introduction, as well as having its production at the Fairfax Assembly Plant halted twice already this year for excessive inventory. Now, Motor Trend is reporting that the midsize sedan will be receiving price drops across the board ranging from $300 on a number of models up to $770 on the 1LT trim; offsetting some of MSRP drop, though, the destination charge has increased from $760 to $810.
Without destination, the entry-level Malibu LS now starts at $21,995, which is still about $300 more than a Honda Accord and about $300 less than the segment's top-selling Toyota Camry. This new pricing also drops the price of the Eco, 2LT and 3LT trims by $300. The LTZ trim has dropped by $415, meaning that the Malibu's top dog now starts at just under $30,000, excluding destination.
Here are the new starting prices for all eight of the Malibu trim levels compared to the previous prices for the 2013 model year (including destination):
Top horsepower-per-dollar cars in 2017
Tue, Feb 17 2015Bang for the buck. That quasi-scientific statistic is bandied about by motor heads everywhere from classrooms to barrooms, though the truth of the matter is that it's exceedingly complex to measure. A fair performance-per-dollar index would include something like cross-referencing MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) with point-to-point times on a track or driving route, which is obviously hard to do comprehensively. But, for the sheer joy of talking about cars and playing with a big spreadsheet, there's always the horsepower-per-dollar index, which is more straightforward, albeit hilariously flawed. There are vagaries even with this simple formula, of course: MSRP for vehicles can change at a moment's notice, to say nothing of the bottom-line shifting that happens with local deals or showroom negotiation. For this list we're running with the straight MSRP wherever possible, and as recently reported as we can get it. All the vehicles on this list are 2017 models, and all trims are reported where the lowest price and differing power levels intersect. Some choices were made for personal preference and some for sanity, avoiding things like all 48 trim levels of the Ford Transit, all with the same horsepower). If this list were a simple top ten, or even a top fifty, you'd be bored to tears with all the red, white and blue that is represented. Following perfectly with conventional wisdom, American cars really do lead the world where hp/$ is concerned. So, for the sake of variety (and the sheer joy of seeing a minivan 'win' one round of this thing) I've sorted out some top five and bottom five lists for broad power categories. Let's dive in. Less Than 100 Horsepower Okay, okay, this is hardly a category we'll grant you. But we've often tried to click off all the sub-100-hp cars on sale in the US, and making this list gave us an excuse. It also illustrates that none of these smallish vehicles bring cheap horsepower to the table - for that you'll need a motorcycle. The segment-leading Chevy Spark (above) asks just over $139 for each hp, and that Smart Fortwo Electric Drive has hp on sale for about the same price as its very distant family cousin, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG (insert your favorite Smart joke here... we know you want to).
