Complete Restoration History

The frame restoration took about 7 years. I stripped all those years of grime and road off the old frame and body, straightened her out, painted her up and set about to repair and restore all the mechanicals. I bought and installed new front and rear leaf springs and shackle kits from Benz Spring in Oregon. Installed new king pins, brakes and bearings. Installed a hydrovac unit from a big GMC dump truck and gave it power brakes. I rebuilt the mid 70’s 350 cubic inch motor with bigger valves and a mild cam and rebuilt that quadrajet carburetor to a perfect working order. Installed a new clutch, 11 inch flywheel and high torque starter. Installed an electroniciginition, new alternator and optima battery for trouble free operation. I rebuilt and sealed the PTO and the pump with new bearings and seals. I removed the drum parking brake behind the SM 420 trans in order to install a Gearvendors overdrive unit and then installed a line-lock so there is some sort of E brake. It really needed taller gears for freeway driving so I replaced the 4:57 rear end gears with a top quality 4:11 from a mid 60’s truck and installed taller, later model wheels in the rear that took the 17.5 inch wheels to 19.5. This required having the hubs drilled on a CNC machine to accept larger and longer lugs. I kept the 17.5 inch wheels in front and had all 6 wheels powder coated. Installed a power steering kit from ABS in Orange, California and added an auxiliary fuel cell just inside the frame behind the cab. I kept the seat tank and installed a fuel selector switch and now have a very long range between fill ups. It cruises at freeway speeds at about 2200 rpms and with all that Dynamat sound attenuating material I installed, it’s pretty quiet as well. Someone gave me a bench seat from a mid 90’s truck that I had recovered. It’s way more comfortable than the old stock seat. This old truck looks great and shows well at car shows. People go nuts over it. But I wanted it to earn its keep so the last thing I did was install huge air helper springs (Air Lift Dominator Series with 5,000 lbs of leveling capacity!)and a wireless compressor. This is a completely custom fabrication that I made with some technical assistance from Air Lift. Now this thing can really carry some weight. The huge hydraulic ram dumps the bed without even straining.

In October, 2009 it won the Participant’s Choice Award: best in class at the 5th annual OCVCCA all Chevy show.

GM recalling 1.4 million older vehicles for oil leak fire risk

Tue, Oct 27 2015

General Motors is recalling 1,411,332 older vehicles with its 3.8-liter V6 yet again due to a fire risk. Specifically, there are 1,283,340 of them in the US, and the affected models are the: 1997-2004 Pontiac Grand Prix 2000-2004 Chevrolet Impala 1998-1999 Chevrolet Lumina 1998-2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 1998-1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue 1997- 2004 Buick Regal The fault with these vehicles is that oil can drip onto the hot exhaust manifold during hard braking, which can potentially cause of fire. In the last six years, there have 19 reported minor injuries from this problem but no crashes or fatalities, according to the company. Spokesperson Alan Adler also told Autoblog: "GM has reports of 1,345 fires in vehicles that were repaired under two previous recalls for this issue." At this time, GM is still developing a remedy for the problem. According to Adler, the company advised owners to park these vehicles outside for the previous recalls. "The cars can be safely driven. In cases where a customer reported an engine fire while driving, smoke was reported, which would be an indication of a malfunction," he said. This is GM's fourth recall for this problem since 2008, according to The Detroit News. At one point it was believed that aging valve cover gaskets allowed the oil to leak out and drip onto the manifold. A campaign in 2009 covered nearly 1.5 million of these models through the 2003 model year for the same issue. At the time, dealers installed new spark plug wire retainers as a fix. Related Video: GM Statement: General Motors is recalling 1,283,340 older sedans and coupes in the U.S. from the 1997 to 2004 model years because drops of oil may be deposited on the hot exhaust manifold through hard braking, which can cause engine compartment fires. GM is working on a remedy. The company is aware of post-repair fires in some vehicles but no crashes or fatalities. There have been 19 reported minor injuries over the last six years. These vehicles with 3.8-liter V6 3800 engines are affected: 1997-2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2000-2004 Chevrolet Impala, 1998-1999 Chevrolet Lumina and 1998-2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, 1998-1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue and 1997-2004 Buick Regal. Including Canada, Mexico and exports, the total population is 1,411,332.

First privately owned Corvette Stingray blitzes 1/4 mile in 12.23 at 114.88 mph

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

Chevrolet's latest road rocket, the Corvette Stingray, is a very quick car. If one needs further proof of that, we recommend they take a look at this video from Hennessey of what is claimed to be the first privately owned C7 Corvette to make a pass down the quarter mile. Not just any quarter mile, mind, this black C7 blitzed its way down the tuner's primary testing dragstrip. The Chevrolet ran the quarter in just 12.23 seconds at 114.88 miles per hour. That is a very quick time for a stock car.
Equipped with the Z51 package and a six-speed automatic transmission, not only does the C7 run a solid time, but it does so with little to no drama. That won't last though, as Hennessey will likely return it to its owner with far more power - we just hope they show a drag run of the completed product. Take a look below to watch the C7's 12.23-second run on video.

GM recalling over 40,000 Chevy, Pontiac and Saturn models over fuel pump woes

Mon, 01 Oct 2012

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for a number of General Motors cars and crossovers bought or currently registered in the hot-climate states of Arkansas, Arizona, California, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas. As many as 40,859 units consisting of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox, Pontiac Torrent and Saturn Ion and the 2007-2009 Chevrolet Cobalt (shown) and its Pontiac G5 twin are being recalled for potential fuel leaks.
This recall is being issued due to potentially faulty fuel pump components that can crack and cause gasoline to leak from the return or supply ports and possibly cause a fire. NHTSA has not indicated how many fuel leaks or vehicle fires have been reported. As a fix, GM will replace the fuel pump modules on all affected vehicles free of charge. Since Pontiac and Saturn have been shuttered, owners will be able to go to another GM-brand dealership to have their vehicles repaired.
While the list of affected cars and crossovers varies by state and model year, if you own any of these models and live in Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, Oklahoma or Texas, be sure to check the official notice below for more details.
