Meet Miss Libby, a 1956 Chevy 3200 pickup which started it's life as an IGA delivery store truck in Champion Nebraska. I purchased the truck at a tractor auction several years ago. At that time the lettering on the doors was still ledgeable although fading. The truck was running and we drove it home. After some serious consideration we decided to enhance the existing lettering and at that time we changed the original name to Libby's IGA after my granddaughter. With the exception of the roof and visor we left the original paint in tact and painted the roof and visor white along with a little tasteful pin stripping. The bed is as we found it except we applied 10 coats of polyurethane on the wood and clear coated the bed sides. We added a new oak rack, the S&H green stamp sign and the 7up sign in the bed. The original seat was recovered and the rest of the interior left as we found it. This truck still has it's original engine and 4 speed transmission as well as it's original shocks. The underside of the truck was steam cleaned and painted however we did not attempt to clean the engine and tranny. We replaced the exhaust, windshield, radiator, belts, and hoses. 4 new B.F. Goodrich Silver town bias ply wide whites were added along with new hubcaps and vintage trim rings painted red. We rebuilt the carburator, replaced the headliner and visors. As you can imagine this truck gets lots of attention and appeared on the front page of the Bellevue, Ohio Gazette in June of this year. The truck runs great, shifts fine, all lights and turn signals work as do all the gauges, horn, wipers, and heater. The speedometer was disconected when we got it and the odometer is not working so the true mileage is unknown. The rear pig has a small leak and the engine leaks when the truck sets and it does burn a little oil. The licence plates, tag toppers and wooden box in the bed are not included in this auction.

Nissan Leaf sales get January jump as Chevy Volt trends downward
Mon, Feb 3 2014The cold January sales dip hit both the Nissan Leaf and the Chevy Volt last month, but when compared 2014 to 2013's first-month-of-the-year sales totals, one of the two early plug-in vehicles obviously came out on top. The top Leaf market also shifted away from Atlanta for the first time in months. Last year, the Leaf sold just 650 units in January, but it managed to move 1,252 last month, a 92.6-percent increase over 2013 but a big drop from the 2,529 sold in December 2013. Paige Presley over at Nissan told AutoblogGreen that the Leaf has now broken sales records for 11 months straight and that, "we see unique seasonality with some December pull-ahead demand based on federal and state tax incentives." The number one Leaf market also shifted away from Atlanta for the first time in months, moving back to San Francisco. That change could be short-lived. "We had some inventory constraint issues early in the month in Atlanta with end-of-year demand depleting stock," Presley said. "By the time we resolved that, the weather hampered sales." There was not as much good news on the Chevrolet front. Last month, the Volt sold 918 units, down from 1,140 in January 2013 and 2,392 in December 2013. It also marks the first time the Volt has sold in the three-digit range since January 2012, when it sold 603 copies. That string of solid months means that the plug-in hybrid has a roughly 12,000-unit lead over the EV since the two cars brought plug-in vehicles back to the mass market all the way back in December 2010. We will have our full report of January's green car sales up soon.
Read This: Auto Extremist advocates for Corvette as brand with multiple models [w/poll]
Fri, 25 Jan 2013The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette really grinds Peter De Lorenzo's gears. Or, more accurately, the self-anointed Auto Extremist has an issue with what he sees as mismanagement of the legendary sports car by General Motors executives. In a new editorial on his website, De Lorenzo argues it's time to split Corvette off from Chevrolet to create an all-new brand, complete with a model range with at least three new takes on the sports car. Capable of fully leveraging the successes of the Corvette Racing program and brandishing the full might of GM's technical prowess, the Corvette brand would theoretically give Porsche something to sweat over.
Sure, that sounds like a party, but given GM's troubled track record when it comes to launching (let alone managing) brands, we say that's slippery slope that could just as easily end with the whole Corvette franchise in the scrap bin. Either way, the notion is certainly an interesting one. Head over to Auto Extremist to take in the full editorial, and then let us know what you think in Comments. Should GM split off its most storied nameplate?

LG Chem's troubled Chevy Volt battery plant hiring once again
Thu, Sep 25 2014The Michigan battery plant known for paying its workers to do nothing has turned things around and is now hiring more workers, specifically to do something. South Korea-based LG Chem, which runs the factory to supply the Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in vehicle with its lithium-ion batteries, held a job fair recently to bring on 40 new employees in order to meet higher battery demand, according to WZZM, the ABC affiliate for Grand Rapids, MI. The LG Chem factory is in Holland, MI, about 30 miles west of Grand Rapids, and it made its first batteries last year. Prior to that, though, the factory gained notoriety after a US Department of Energy (DOE) probe found that workers there were getting paid to do, well, nothing. That's because demand for the battery packs was so low that it cost less for the plant to sit idle. The DOE was conducting the probe because of its financial grant to LG Chem. But that was then and today is today. LG Chem is looking to ramp up production in advance of the second-generation Volt. That 2016 model-year version is said to have a longer all-electric range and better performance and will ride on a new chassis, but few official details have surfaced. We will know more when we get our first look at the car at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
