This is a pro-street, street rod unfinished project. It has what appears to be a professionally built custom frame with a Volare style front suspension set up with disc brakes. The rear is a narrowed Ford 9" non-posi unit with a smoothed housing and drum brakes.

The cab is in great condition.  If there was ever any rust, it appears to have been repaired. The truck currently has a Wisconsin title, but it shows that it was previously titled in California. The VIN shows that it was built at the Oakland plant. The fiberglass Cameo sides appear to be in very good condition.  I do not see any signs of damage or repair done to them.  The metal portion of the box has been cut up.  It could either be replaced with a different unit or repaired. The metal box needs to be tubed to accommodate the narrowed rear end. There is no tailgate included, however the fiberglass Cameo tailgate cover is included.

There is a new "in the box" wiring harness included with the truck. (See photo.) The truck is temporarily wired to allow it to start and drive. The front and rear glass is installed and appears to be in good condition. There is new door glass included along with the window regulators. The window tracks and other window hardware is missing. The Cameo tail lights are included, they are painted.  New tail light lenses are included. There is no Cameo rear bumper, but there is a set of after-market fiberglass outer bumper reproductions.

There is a newer bench seat sitting in the truck. The bench seat is from a different year of truck and is not mounted but could possibly be used or retro-fitted. A gauge cluster is included. I am not sure if it is original to the truck. There is a newer GM tilt column installed. There are no knobs, no switches, no heater controls and no other dash parts, etc... included.

The truck has a small block GM V-8, I am not sure of the cubic inch displacement of the motor. There is a GM automatic transmission installed. The motor and transmission have some leaks. I don't know if this is from sitting or some other cause.  At minimum some new gaskets probably need to be installed. The truck starts and yard drives. The motor seems to run decent.   I have no knowledge about the condition or history of the motor or transmission.

Everything included is shown in photos, EXCEPT I forgot to photograph the front inner fenders. They are included and appear to be in good shape. They need to be sandblasted and painted, but I do not see any rust or collision damage on them.  None of the stainless or chrome trim is included.

I do not know the history of this truck. It was painted and the front was partially primed.  I am not sure why.

This is being sold AS-IS and I encourage interested parties to view the truck prior to bidding.  Please e mail me with any questions or concerns prior to bidding.

These trucks bring big bucks when finished.

This truck will need to be trailered

Best and Worst GM Cars

Thu, Apr 7 2022

Oh yes, because we just love receiving angry letters from devoted Pontiac Grand Am enthusiasts, we have decided to go there. Based on a heated group Slack conversation, the topic came up about the best and worst GM cars. First of all time, and then those currently on sale, and then just mostly a rambling discussion of Oldsmobiles our parents and grandparents owned (or engineered). Eventually, three of us made the video above. Like it? Maybe we can make more. Many awesome GM cars are definitely going unmentioned here, so please let us know your bests and worsts in the comments below. Mostly, it's important to note that this post largely exists as a vehicle for delivering the above video that dives far deeper into GM's greatest hits and biggest flops, specifically those from the 1980s and 1990s. What you'll find below is a collection of our editors identifying a best current and best-of-all-time choice, plus a worst current and worst-of-all-time choice. Comprehensive it is not, but again, comments. -Senior Editor James Riswick Best Current GM Vehicle Chevrolet Corvette We were flying by the seats of our pants a bit in this first outing and my notes were similarly extemporaneous. When it came time to tie it all together on camera, I failed spectacularly. Thank the maker for text, because this gives me the opportunity to perhaps slightly better explain my convoluted reasoning. I chose the C8 Corvette because it's simply overwhelmingly good, and it's merely the baseline from which this generation of Corvette will be expanded.  While the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing (more on that in a minute) is an amazing snapshot of GM's current performance standing and its little sibling so enraptured me that I went out and bought one, their existence is fleeting. Corvette will live on; forced-induction Cadillac sport sedans, not so much. So while all three are amazing machines when viewed in a vacuum, the Corvette stands above them as both a reflection of GM's current performance credentials and a signpost of what is to come. So, given the choice between the C8 and the 5V-Blackwing right now, I'd choose the C8. In 10 years, when the Blackwing is no longer in production and Corvette is in its 9th generation? Well, that might be a different story. Now, just pretend I said something even remotely that coherent when we get to the part of the video where I try to make an argument for the 5-V Blackwing as best GM car I've ever driven. Or just laugh at me while I ramble incoherently.

The story of the 2014 Chevrolet SS: "Luxury, power, refinement, handling"

Thu, 07 Mar 2013

Not including the women and men who built it, the 2014 Chevrolet SS has only been seen in person by a piddling number of people - fewer humans than would fill the gymnasium at a high school volleyball game. Not including the men and women who built it, no one has driven it. Even so, it is already saddled with two controversies: the way it looks and the way it shifts.
First to that shifting. Did we love the last Americanized Holden, the awesomely sportsome Pontiac G8 GXP, and its six-speed manual? Of course. Do we wish the SS came with a six-speed manual? Of course. But we'd like a toboggan to come with a manual transmission. We'd put a manual transmission on a weasel if we could because we're just wired that way; if it moves, it should come with a stick and a clutch. Or at least the option.
Let's climb down off the ledge, though. We haven't driven the SS and we have no idea how good (or not) the automatic is. And the Hobson's Choice in transmissions when it comes to sport sedans like the BMW M5, Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and Jaguar XFR-S and, oh yeah, cars-that-really-should-have-manuals like the Audi R8 and Nissan GT-R and Porsche 918 and every single Lamborghini and Ferrari, for instance, hasn't stopped us from enjoying what is clearly the gruesome, dual-clutched demise of Western automotive civilization. Because in spite of our ululations at the dying of the six-speed light, we understand.

Question of the Day: What's the most irritating car name?

Wed, Mar 9 2016

You hear a lot about how the Chevrolet Nova was a sales flop in Mexico because "No va" means "it doesn't go" in Spanish; in fact, the Nova sold pretty well south of the border, and in any case most Spanish-speakers know that "Nova" means "new" in Latin and Portuguese. However, General Motors doesn't deserve to be let off the hook for bad car names, because the Oldsmobile Achieva— no doubt inspired by the excruciating "coffee achievers" ads of the 1980s— scrapes the biggest fingernails down the screechiest chalkboard in the US-market car-name world. That is, unless you think Daihatsu's incomprehensible choice of Charade was worse. Meanwhile, Japanese car buyers could get machines with cool names like Mazda Bongo Friendee or Honda Life Dunk. It's just not fair! So, what car name drives you the craziest? Related Video: Auto News Design/Style Chevrolet Honda Mazda Daihatsu Automotive History questions car names
