Offered here for your consideration and bids is a 1951 Chevy 5-window pickup vintage rod.  It is quite a find with provenance.  It received a complete body-off-frame modified restoration in 1968.  The owner states the truck won the "Best of Show" trophy at the Frezno Autorama that year!   The project was built by Mike Vukovich who was the brother of Billy Vukovich....who won the Indianapolis 500 in 1953 and 1954.  He was killed in a chain-reaction crash while in the lead at the 57th lap of the 1955 Indianapolis 500.

I discovered the truck in a garage where it had been rarely driven and stored since 1968!  The owner got it started and it runs extremely smooth.  He believes it may have only 4,000 to 5,000 miles since that time.  It runs a vintage 302ci (balanced and blue-printed) Corvette engine with a manual transmission.  The front axle has been dropped with anti-sway bars.  Many parts are chromed throughout the vehicle:  The entire tailgate, running boards, bumpers, grill, heater, headliner trim, seat frame, window moldings, Corvette steering column, plus many parts in the engine compartment.  The steering column and steering wheel are early Corvette plus the back tail-lights.  The truck sports chrome twin spots, a stock radio and period seat belts.  Please notice the old-school radio antennae and bed rails.  I am advised that back in 1998 the truck received a rebuilt carburetor, new fuel pump, new ignition switch plus a new starter.

This rod is a real garage-find/time-capsule hot rod and remains in excellent condition.  I did notice a scratch in the front passenger-side fender and a small puncture hole on the driver's-side seat bottom.  New tires might be a good idea.  Overall, the condition of the truck is remarkable.

On Jan-10-14 at 09:28:32 PST, seller added the following information:

The Grandson of Mike Vukovich who built this truck, discovered the original 1st Place in Class Trophy for the 1969 (not 1968) Fresno, California Autorama!  (The owners had thought the truck had won Best of Show, but now know the vehicle won 1st in Class).  In any case, the truck is an outstanding find.  I placed several photos of the award on my web site:  spokemotors.  Please check them out.

Please note:  When I composed the photographs and video of the vehicle it had just been moved out of the garage covered in years of dust.  The owners cleaned it off the best of their ability in a very short time.  You can imagine how this truck will come-up once it is properly detailed.

Recharge Wrap-up: Toyota FCV Rally Car To Compete, Barra bullish on Chevy Volt

Fri, Oct 31 2014

The Toyota FCV will compete in the last stage of the 2014 Japanese Rally Championship. The sport-tuned hydrogen-powered car will tackle the 177-mile Shinshiro Rally on November 1 and 2, emitting no greenhouse gases in the process. The rally course will help prove the safety of the vehicle before it goes on sale in Japan in the next several months. The Toyota FCV, rumored to be called "Mirai" in Japan, will begin sales there before April, according to Toyota, and in the summer in the US and Europe. Read more in the press release below. Carsharing is becoming more popular, and more visible, throughout the world, including the US. According to WardsAuto columnist John McElroy, 18 percent of US drivers have used some sort of carsharing service. Additionally, he says 60 percent of Americans are familiar with Zipcar and Uber. Mercedes' Harald Kroeger says promotions like free parking for carshares in Stuttgart are encouraging growth for Daimler's carsharing service, Car2go. Read more at WardsAuto. Ethanol is being help up by rail transport, according to ethanol producer Green Plains. More and more stations are carrying E15 blend gasoline, but grain producers have complained that crude oil is given higher priority by the rail lines shipping it, which rail companies deny. Union Pacific and BNSF Railway say they are stepping up service to make sure that ethanol can be shipped reliably to customers. Read more at Omaha World-Herald. General Motors "has placed a significant bet [on] the electrification of the automobile," says CEO Mary Barra. In a speech to the Detroit Economic Club this week, she spoke about the Chevrolet Volt, and its importance to GM's future. While Barra admits the Volt's success has been "not everything we wanted," it has provided experience, and shows that EVs have "an important role in the future of GM." The new Volt is more refined, stores more energy, has longer range, uses less fuel and is a big investment for Michigan. She announced that the new Volt's electric drive system will be built in Warren, and that all of its major components will be made in Michigan. "Silicon Valley doesn't have a corner on the market for innovation, creativity and drive," says Barra. "These qualities exist here – in this region – as well." Chevy shows much-improved 2014 Corvette interior in new video

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

If you want a closer look at what went into designing and building the interior for the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, we've got just the thing. General Motors has released a new video detailing the cabin's evolution from conception to execution, complete with commentary from Ryan Vaughn, performance car interior design manager with Chevrolet. The quick clip details how manufacturing, engineering and design within General Motors worked together from the first sketches to ensure no compromises had to be made later down the line. How novel.
With plenty of hides traced with contrast stitching and available real carbon fiber trim, the cabin looks to be a few hundred miles ahead of the C6. Given how readily critics derided the previous generation for its cabin, the C7 should make writers work a little harder to find something to complain about. Check out the video below for yourself.
