General Description
This is a 1949 chevy 3100 3 window cab with a 1974 Camaro, we bought a fully running Camaro to build this truck we used everything possible out of the doner car to get this truck upgraded to power steering, power brakes, disk brakes in front. The truck came from a small town called Cuba in northern New Mexico from an old man on a small property in town he had lost the title and so when I researched it, it was totally out of the system he said it had been parked since the 70s. So the local MVD has no record of it. This is a poor mans truck or poor boy style with the original swamp cooler and jerry can we even have an old aftermarket heater that came with the truck which will also be included.

RUST
The trucks main rust issue was in the front cab corners. We decided to leave this truck as it was when we pulled it out of the field but we also wanted to make it fully functional so the outer cab corner skins were left as is but the floor was repaired and is now very solid the truck has its natural surface rust throughout the body also the bed has rust in the rear bed pillar corners behind the taillights.

ENGINE
This was the original engine out of the 74 Camaro numbers matching original two barrel carburetor has very good compression car ran rough when was purchased it, needed new wires and plugs and it ran very strong after some tuning was done then we were able to drive the car with no problem.
Has a HEI distributor new intake, valve cover, and oil pan gaskets as far as the millage on the engine its is unknown.

TRANSMISSION
Equipped with a turbo 350 short tail shaft ran great but was not shifting into 3rd gear so we had it rebuilt

SUSPENSION
1974 Camaro subframe with disk brakes, power steering, power brakes, and air bags. Rear suspension is also out of the Camaro 10 bolt and leaf springs C-notched with air bags over rear axle. The complete truck came off the frame in order to make the modification more easier and accurate this truck is squared and modified correctly (SEE OUR PREVIOUS BUILDS TOWARDS BOTTOM)  This is not our first build.

AIR RIDE SYSTEM
This is a very simple system consisting of 1 Viair compressor, one 5 gallon tank, 4 AirSlammit dumps that are controlled by two switches in the dash. 1 front up and down and 1 rear up and down. pressure switch is a 140 psi on and 180 off. System operates only when key switch is on

WIRE HARNESS & ELECTRICAL
Everything is powered by the Camaro wire harness the following circuits are operational. Fuel gauge, dash lights, running lights, high beams, taillights, stop lights, turn signals, four way flashers, dome light oil pressure coolant temperature and cigarette lighters. Non working components are windshield wipers speedometer and grille parking lamps

INTERIOR
We also decided to keep the original patina in the interior and just added the door panels and kick panels no head liner. The seat is the rear seat from the Camaro and was modified to fit the original seat frame but sits lower and more comfortable than the original. New carpet with padding underneath

GLASS
We have installed a new windshield glass along with new rubber the driver side is not cracked but is old the passanger and rear glass is cracked

HOW DOES IT RIDE?
Breaks have excellent response engine is strong transmission is smooth and can cruise 80 down the highway no problem. The ride can be bumpy or very bouncy if air is not adjusted right. especially since there are no shocks on the truck. She is fast for a two barrel and not as fuel hungry and can still burn rubber.

GM natural gas-powered vans recalled due to possible leak

Wed, Sep 24 2014

General Motors is recalling almost 3,200 of its compressed-natural-gas powered utility vans because of possible leaks. GM and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a notice last week saying that 3,196 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana CNG vans are on recall, though no accidents have been reported due to the possible issue. The recall is specifically for vans for model years ranging from 2011 to 2014. The recall stems from a potential leak from the compressed natural gas high-pressure regulator, and such a leak could cause a fire or explosion. GM will replace the vehicles' high-pressure regulator in order to fix the problem, will do it free of charge and is instructing owners to contact Chevrolet or GMC customer service to arrange for the parts replacement. Utility vehicle makers like General Motors have pushed for fleet sales of CNG-powered vans and trucks for the past few years and have touted them for their cheaper refueling costs relative to standard gasoline, not to mention the fact that natural gas can be readily sourced from throughout North America (thanks, fracking). According to CNGPrices.com, compressed natural gas sells for about $2.22 a gallon, on average, while the AAA is pegging the average price of gas at $3.34 a gallon. NHTSA has posted information on the recall here. Featured Gallery News Source: NHTSA via Reuters Green Chevrolet GM GMC Natural Gas Vehicles CNG gmc savana

Best and Worst GM Cars

Thu, Apr 7 2022

Oh yes, because we just love receiving angry letters from devoted Pontiac Grand Am enthusiasts, we have decided to go there. Based on a heated group Slack conversation, the topic came up about the best and worst GM cars. First of all time, and then those currently on sale, and then just mostly a rambling discussion of Oldsmobiles our parents and grandparents owned (or engineered). Eventually, three of us made the video above. Like it? Maybe we can make more. Many awesome GM cars are definitely going unmentioned here, so please let us know your bests and worsts in the comments below. Mostly, it's important to note that this post largely exists as a vehicle for delivering the above video that dives far deeper into GM's greatest hits and biggest flops, specifically those from the 1980s and 1990s. What you'll find below is a collection of our editors identifying a best current and best-of-all-time choice, plus a worst current and worst-of-all-time choice. Comprehensive it is not, but again, comments. -Senior Editor James Riswick Best Current GM Vehicle Chevrolet Corvette We were flying by the seats of our pants a bit in this first outing and my notes were similarly extemporaneous. When it came time to tie it all together on camera, I failed spectacularly. Thank the maker for text, because this gives me the opportunity to perhaps slightly better explain my convoluted reasoning. I chose the C8 Corvette because it's simply overwhelmingly good, and it's merely the baseline from which this generation of Corvette will be expanded.  While the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing (more on that in a minute) is an amazing snapshot of GM's current performance standing and its little sibling so enraptured me that I went out and bought one, their existence is fleeting. Corvette will live on; forced-induction Cadillac sport sedans, not so much. So while all three are amazing machines when viewed in a vacuum, the Corvette stands above them as both a reflection of GM's current performance credentials and a signpost of what is to come. So, given the choice between the C8 and the 5V-Blackwing right now, I'd choose the C8. In 10 years, when the Blackwing is no longer in production and Corvette is in its 9th generation? Well, that might be a different story. Now, just pretend I said something even remotely that coherent when we get to the part of the video where I try to make an argument for the 5-V Blackwing as best GM car I've ever driven. Or just laugh at me while I ramble incoherently.

General Motors shaking up its marketing... again

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

One of the things that dogs the full comeback of General Motors is the instability of its marketing. That part of the automaker got yet another big shakeup today when GM confirmed what I have been tweeting for a few days - strong rumors that the Chevrolet and Cadillac ad accounts are walking to new ad agencies.
Cadillac, GM's luxury brand, is going into review from Fallon Worldwide, Minneapolis and the indications are that Campbell-Ewald, Chevy's old ad shop, will end up with most or all of it. C-E just announced that it was moving from its long-time home in Warren, MI to a new downtown Detroit office next to Ford Field, just blocks from GM.
The other shoe to drop shortly will be the shift of GM's most important brand, Chevy, from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners of San Francisco to McCann-Erickson of Troy, MI. McCann used to be the agency for Buick and GMC, as well as GM's corporate advertising, and has retained some pieces of business over the last few years. Sources have even told us that it was McCann that did a lot of the creative work on Chevy's new ad platform, Find New Roads. (Not to be confused with a former McCann tagline for Saab, "Find Your Own Road.")
