1949 Chevrolet 5 window 3100 Pickup Truck

This Auction is for my 1949 Chevy truck that has just had a full frame off restoration. I will describe everything front to back by systems. I will try my best to include all the parts that were used in the build. If you have any Questions feel free ask, and do not be shy, I love talking about the truck.

Engine: 307 small block Chevy engine. I got this engine along with the truck, and had plans on doing a full rebuild on it until I started taking it down and noticed how clean it was internally.  I then opted to refresh the engine top to bottom instead of a full rebuild. the New parts consist of oil pump, oil pan, all gaskets, water pump, fuel pump, alternator, intake manifold, power steering pump, All belts, Carburetor , air filter, distributor with built in coil, plugs, and wires. the valve covers were stripped down and repainted along  with the engine block ect. It starts right up and runs great!

Transmission: 2 speed powerglide transmission also came with the truck when I acquired it. the transmission has an aluminum case and like the engine was very clean inside. I changed the pan gasket, filter, and rear tail shaft seal. and added all new fresh fluid. It shifts very smoothly with no issues.

Rear End:  The rearend is a Gm 10 bolt rear out of a 1978 Pontiac trans am. it was stripped down and repainted with a new differential cover gasket and fresh gear oil. I am not quite sure what the gear ratio is but the truck rides and drives like a stock camaro from the early 80's. It is geared for normal road/highway driving.

Brakes: The brake system is all new front to back including all new brake lines and hoses , front calipers, and pads rear wheel cylinders and shoes. the master cylinder and power brake booster are also new along with a new pedal assembly. the master cylinder is a duel bowl corvette style master which attaches to a new proportioning valve and feeds the new fluid through the new lines.  I have parts for the parking brake assembly ,but the parking brake is currently not hooked up.

Suspension: The front suspension of the truck is that of a 1978 Chevrolet camaro. The frame of the truck was professionally sub framed by fatman fabrication here in charlotte NC. So from the firewall forward the frame is that of the 78 camaro. this gives the truck a great drive quality with independent front suspension, and makes parts like ball joints, bushings, brakes ect. easy to acquire from you part store of choice. The suspension is all new with New shackle bushings , shocks, ball joints, control arm bushings, ect. The front springs were  cut to lower the ride height by about 2''.

Electrical System: The electrical system of this truck is 12V  and has been fully wired New with a 13 circuit American auto wire harness. all the bulbs, switches in the truck are new along with the new alternator. New brake light switch, parking lights, tail lights, headlights, dash lights ect. The column in this truck is a tilt column out of a 70's Chevy  with a new steering wheel with new horn contact, neutral safety switch, turn signal switch, ignition switch. The dash gauges in this truck consist of only 2 electrical gauges which are the volt meter and the fuel gauge. the old amp meter was converted into a volt meter with the use of the original amp meter plate with new decal and a gauge from a new sunpro volt meter. the fuel gauge is a new 12v fuel gauge from classic parts of america. no need to have any worries about an old electrical system with this truck.

Exhaust System: The exhaust is true duel exhaust New from front to back with the use of stainless steel downpipes that feed into aluminized pipe that feeds into summit racing turbo mufflers that feed into flow master tailpipes. The only thing that was used was the engines original stock manifolds that were sandblasted and painted with a factory manifold grey high temp paint.

Steering system: The steering system is all new with the previously mentioned steering wheel, rebuilt column, & power steering pump. along with new steering gearbox , hoses, and column to gearbox  shaft and yokes.

Cooling System: The cooling  system in this truck is also all new which consists of a new duel core aluminum radiator with built in transmission cooler, water pump, heater hoses, rad hoses, 16''electrical fan, thermostats and temp gauge.

Fuel System: The fuel system of this truck is all new which consists of new fuel filler cap and hoses, tank, sender, gas pedal assembly, gauge, pump, filters, carb, and fuel line which stainless braided hose with AN fittings.

Interior: The interior is all fresh with used seat frame done up with all new springs, padding and vinyl upholstery, new sun visors, headliner,  door panels,  door handles, window cranks. the original glove box door has a few minor dings in the stainless, but I opted to keep it original because it still looks great. the speaker grill and ashtray are also original. it has a new glove box liner, cigar lighter, switches and knobs ect.  the floor pans  and firewall in this truck were all coated with spray in bed liner material for a clean original look without the use of carpet. I am missing and to this day trying to locate a inner stainless steel garnish molding for the driver's side door window.

Exterior and sheet metal:  This was a true nut and bolt frame off restoration. every panel, nut , bolt ect. was taken apart or taken off this truck and each piece got worked, painted , and then reassembled .The exterior consists of  some original and some aftermarket parts. Original parts include Cab, doors, front fenders, rear fenders, running boards, splash aprons, and hood. the aftermarket parts consist of grille, front bumper, complete bed and roll pan. all painted with a 2 stage base/clear silver with the exception of the grill which is done in black and silver. The paint shines and shows excellently!!  there are no dings or dents in the exterior but there are a few nicks in the paint which happened during assembly. these few nicks are all very minor and never looked upon by anyone viewing the vehicle and have been touched up to prevent the finish from further damage. I give the paint on this truck a 10/10 for driver quality and a 6/10 for show quality. although I am very proud to take this truck to any show or car cruise.

Hardware:  I would say that at least 90% of the hardware used for assembly is stainless steel nuts bolts washers clips ect.  If it's not new stainless then it is zinc

Glass and weather-strip:  The glass in this truck consist of all new glass except the two original corner windows. all glass rubber and other wind lace and weather-stripping are new on this truck. Both doors have new inner rubber along with new door glass channels.

wheels and Tires: The front and rear wheels are New chrome smoothie 15 inch wheels. the fronts are wrapped with 195x60x15  and the rear are wrapped with 235x70x15. The tires are new

If you are in the market for an older 1947- 1953 Chevy truck with the ride quality of a 80's muscle car, do not pass up on this beautiful example of a modernized  old truck.

Texas sues GM, saying it tricked customers into sharing driving data sold to insurers

Wed, Aug 14 2024

Texas filed a lawsuit Tuesday against GM over years of alleged abuse of customers' data and trust. New car owners were presented with a "confusing and highly misleading" process that was implied to be for their safety, but "was no more than a deceptively designed sales flow" that surrendered their data for GM to sell. The suit contends that at no point was selling driving data ever even suggested as a possibility, putting GM in violation of the state's consumer protection laws. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is seeking a jury trial and at least $10,000 per offense (every GM car sold in the state since 2015) and a hefty add-on of $250,000 in cases where the victim was over 65. Texas seems to be flying high after a recent $1.4 billion settlement from Meta over other privacy concerns. This may well be a way to solve any pending budgetary issues in the Lone Star State.

What we know, and think we know, about the 2016 Chevy Volt

Wed, Aug 13 2014

With the next-gen Chevy Volt due to make an appearance at the Detroit Auto Show early next year, bits and pieces about the new car are making their way into the press. Perhaps most importantly, the new Volt is going to have better "fuel economy and efficiency," according to GM executive vice president Mark Reuss. The current Volt gets 98 MPGe and 37 miles per gallon on premium fuel. It also has a 38-mile electric-only range. We don't know how GM will improve the efficiency or to what degree, but the logical options include making the car lighter, giving it better aerodynamics and/or improving the powertrain. To that end, one of the big things we don't know for sure includes information on the new gas-powered engine. Forbes says it will be a downsized 1.0-liter, three-cylinder mill instead of the 1.4-liter, four-cylinder used in the current model, which could certainly help the car be more efficient. The new Volt is also going to have more technology, which shouldn't surprise anyone. GM is now openly talking about how it will change the way it markets the Volt, shifting away from the mass-market mentality to focus on the regions where the car is already popular. "There's a Northeast and West Coast market for Volt, and there's nothing wrong with that," Chevy chief marketing officer Tim Mahoney told Forbes. There are rumors that the new Volt will have seating for five by adding a seat in the back. This is something a lot of current Volt owners would love, but we've heard nothing official hinting that this would be the case. We expect the battery to be the new 17.1-kWh version, or maybe even have a capacity increase, so GM would have to seriously repackage the pack to eliminate the ridge that runs from between the front seats and then back to the rear two seats. If you've heard anything official, do let us know.

2015 Chevrolet Trax

Thu, Dec 4 2014

After the obligatory product presentation for the 2015 Trax, I caught up with Steve Majoros, Chevrolet's director of marketing for crossovers and cars, and asked him to elaborate on which markets his planners believe will be the hot starters for this tiny CUV. Without much hesitation, Majoros began to click off traditional sales havens for Subaru, namely, New England and the snowy bits of the East Coast, Colorado and the Pacific Northwest. That news might not surprise you, but it did me. Perhaps it's something as basic as the Trax's tall-hatchback looks, or the emphasis Chevrolet put on the urban driving cycle during my test in San Diego. But before my chat with Majoros, I'd considered this a crossover pointed at the Millennial city mouse more than his bumpkin cousin. But a closer look had me re-examining the granola cred of Chevy's smallest crossover. Having spent my fair share of time in New England and around New Englanders, I started by mentally listing the Trax's Subaru-like traits: practicality, thrift, all-weather ability and, well, just a dash of ugliness. (I suppose a hatchback needn't always be ugly to sell in Maine, or Boulder or Portland... but a 'distinctive' face doesn't seem to hurt.) After a day of driving through sunny San Diego and its surroundings, I can say that Trax makes an interesting case for itself against the standard bearers of the L.L. Bean set, but I'm less sure of its argument for young urbanites. The Trax looks a lot like an Equinox whose suit shrunk in the wash. Chevy's has downsized its own, rather conservative crossover styling to fit the proportions of the subcompact Trax; to my eyes, it looks a lot like an Equinox whose suit shrunk in the wash. That's fine for offering a cohesive look for the Chevy family of crossovers, but it seems out of step with the rest of the segment. If the Trax's current competitive set were the cast of a high school-based TV show, the Kia Soul would play the lovable nerd, the Nissan Juke perhaps the outsider musician and the Subaru XV Crosstrek the athletic outdoorsy kid. Chevy may see the Trax as the hipster chick wearing intentionally ironic mom jeans, but to me the styling is a little too on the nose; more like an actual grownup trying to hang with the kids. These mom jeans are genuine. Per my earlier point, that quasi-conservative look may be just fast enough for staid New Englanders, but I have a hard time seeing the bluff, big-Bowtied front end playing in Bushwick or Wicker Park.
