Underneath the dust, rust and broken glass is one of the best examples of Chevrolet history that would love to be restored or rodded out.  This Art Deco 1941 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup has been around the block a time or two, but I'm guessing you have never seen one quite like this.  This truck was a rat rod before rat rods were cool.  Just look at the custom front fenders, chicken wire grille and wooden running boards.  This one just speaks for itself.  Please look at the pictures to see this in full detail and don't speculate anything.  If you need more details please ask and I'll do my best to get you the answers you need.  As you can probably guess this truck has been sitting outside for several years.  It is a fairly complete and solid vehicle, but will require a total restoration or used as parts or a rat rod.  Parts are rusted, glass is broken and the multi-colored paint is peeling, but you just can't make patina like that.  The doors have missing parts but do open, as does the windshield.  The hood is not the best, but does operate.  The box came from another truck and is just sitting on the frame.  The engine is stuck, the steering box is locked up and the steering column is broken.  The "mileage" odometer reading is unknown, but is exempt on the title because of the age.  This will roll onto your trailer and I can help with a tractor and loader.  The wheels are from a mid 70's chevy 4WD truck with pretty nice 31x10.5x15 tires.  This has a clear, clean and current Nebraska title as a 1941 Chevrolet Pickup with the model # matching the vin tag.  As you can see in the picture the vin tag is all faded, but the stamped vin  # is intact.  If you are the winning bidder on this auction and you only want the title and vin tag, I will gladly send those to you free of charge and reimburse you $100 from the final bid for the truck.  If you only want parts off this truck, you can gladly come and remove what you want and I will dispose of the rest.  I will continue to store this truck outside in the elements up to 1 year free of charge until you come pick it up.  If I still have it after that year is up and no other arrangements have been made I will consider the truck abandoned and I will resell again.  This truck is selling as is where is with no guarantee.  I will require a $200 deposit via pay pal within 72 hours of auction end, and the remaining amount within 30 days or cash at the time of pickup.  Please plan on picking this up yourself.  I have worked with shippers before and some have been difficult to deal with.  The shipper I would use with no questions asked, is Marc Springer from Snortn Boar Transport.  You may have seen his work on the A&E TV show Shipping Wars.  He shipped my 1940 1 1/2 ton on the first season episode "Bullship"  I have already contacted Marc, and he would be glad to ship for me again.  Who knows, maybe it would make it on TV again.  I would consider delivering this myself within a 200 mile radius of me for $2.00 a loaded mile.  So if it would help for me to get it a little closer to you, it may be a possibility.  My reserve is low on this truck as I feel the title is worth it alone.  But if you were to part and scrap this out there is plenty of $$$ to make.  I do have other parts that may be available to buy depending on when this truck is picked up.  Thanks for looking, and please email me for any questions and or concerns.

GM’s Charlie Wilson was right: Stronger regulations can help U.S. automakers

Fri, Oct 26 2018

Charlie Wilson had been the president and CEO of General Motors before being nominated to become secretary of defense by Dwight Eisenhower. During his Senate confirmation hearings, he controversially said, "For years I thought what was good for our country was good for General Motors, and vice versa." And he was right. While car companies aren't necessarily the most progressive when it comes to things that might have the slightest possibility of political blowback, General Motors should be credited for doing something absolutely forthright in this regard with its announcement that it wants the federal U.S. government not to squash the California Air Resources Board's emissions requirements but to actually create a 50-state "National Zero Emissions Vehicle" program that, in the words of Mark Reuss, executive vice president and president, Global Product Group and Cadillac, "will drive the scale and infrastructure investments needed to allow the U.S. to lead the way to a zero emission future." Filing comments to the Safer Affordable Fuel-Efficient Vehicles Rule for Model Years 2021-2026 Passenger Cars and Light Trucks is one thing. But a graphic the company developed for this announcement — shown above — is something else entirely, something that is absolutely credible, creative and clever. There is a photo of a Chevrolet Bolt EV driving along a highway, which seems to be in Marin County (based on the blurred San Francisco skyline in the background). Text on the photo states: "It's Time for American Leadership in Zero Emissions Vehicles." It seems to say, in effect, "If we want to make America great again, then we're going to do it by leading in technology, not by retreating behind weakened regulations." General Motors understands that the auto market is globally competitive, and if U.S.-based companies are going to be in the game, then they'd better be able to out-innovate the companies based elsewhere, where emissions and economy standards are not being weakened. What's good for our country ... Related Video:

The best Super Bowl car commercials from the last 5 years

Wed, Jan 28 2015

If you've been dipping into the Autoblog feed over the past days and weeks, you wouldn't even have to be a sports fan to know the Super Bowl is coming up. Automakers have been teasing their spots for the big game, dropping them days early, fully-formed onto the Internet and otherwise trying to amp up the multi-million-dollar outlays that they've made for air time on the biggest advertising day of the year. And, we're into it. The lead up to the Super Bowl is almost akin to a mini auto show around these parts; with automakers being amongst the most prolific advertisers on these special Sundays. The crop of ads from 2015 looks as strong as ever, but we thought we'd take a quick look back at some of our favorite spots from the last five years. Take a look at our picks – created from a very informal polling of Autoblog editors and presented in no particular order – and then tell us about your recent faves, in Comments. Chrysler, Imported From Detroit Chrysler, Eminem and a lingering pan shot of "The Fist" – it doesn't get much more Motown than 2011's Imported From Detroit. With the weight of our staffers hailing from in and around The D, it's no wonder that our memories still favor this epic Super Bowl commercial (even though the car it was shilling was crap). Imported really set the tone for later Chrysler ads, too, repeated the formula: celebrity endorsement + dramatic copy + dash of jingoism = pulled car-guy heartstrings. Mercedes-Benz, Soul teaser with Kate Upton One of our favorite Super Bowl commercials (and yours, based on the insane number of views you logged) didn't even technically air during the game. Mercedes-Benz teased its eventual spot Soul with 90-seconds worth of Kate Upton threatening to do her best Joy Harmon impression. (Teaser indeed.) It doesn't win points for cleverness, use of music, acting, or any compelling carness, but it proved that Mercedes' advertisers knew how to make a splash in the Internet Age. And, hey, it's still classier than every GoDaddy commercial. Kia, A Dream Car. For Real Life Like the Mercedes video above, the initial draw here is a pretty lady; in this case the always stunning Adriana Lima. But this Kia commercial really delivers the extra effort we expect while scarfing crabby snacks and homemades, too. First of all, Motley Crue. Second, a cowboy on a bucking rhino. Enjoy yet again.

How long will the 'golden age' of performance last?

Sat, Mar 26 2016

High-powered sports and luxury cars were everywhere at the New York Auto Show, prompting the obvious question for enthusiasts: How long will this golden age of performance last? Industry leaders have some time before regulations elevate the Corporate Average Fuel Economy level in 2025. Even then, they expect cars rippling with power to survive in some form. "Is it the end of an era," I don't think so," said Ola Kallenius, Daimler AG board member for Mercedes-Benz cars marketing and sales. "That performance element of individual mobility I don't think will ever go away." Kallenius, who oversaw the company's AMG division from 2010-2013, expects it to continue to grow. Last year, AMG sold a record 68,875 units around the world, an increase of 44.6 percent over 2014, with strong growth in the US, China, and Germany. Still, there's always the potential for gas to spike, and pending fuel economy regulations are looming. That could lead AMG to add electrification to its products, Kallenius said, pointing to the electric SLS as a test case. Chevy is also thinking ahead, said Al Oppenheiser, chief engineer of the Camaro. He wouldn't bite when asked about electrification for the Camaro (he did say "never say never"), but admitted in 2025 "it's going to be pretty tough to sell V8s." For now, things are rosy for muscle cars, and Chevy confidently showcased the 640-hp Camaro ZL1 in coupe and convertible form in New York. "I think that this is truly the golden age of performance," Oppenheiser said. It's hard to disagree. News & Analysis News: The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF was a show-stopper in New York. Analysis: There was a palpable energy when this RF — for Retractable Fastback — was revealed the night before the show at a trendy off-site venue near the Hudson River. Even as a parade of SUVs and flashy luxury cars rolled out the rest of the week, the Miata remained a hot topic. The Retractable Fastback is really a clever targa top, with part of the roof stowing behind the seats, adding about 100 pounds compared to the standard convertible. It makes the car more practical and arguably more attractive. The RF continues Mazda's tradition of selling the Miata with a hardtop variant. The first and second generations offered a detachable one, and a power retractable hardtop (a $1,700 option) was available on third-gen models. Judging by its reception in New York, the RF could prove to be even more popular than its predecessors.
